Disagree.

He’s been a bit part player so far yet to have a proper run in the side.

His header against Leicester was absolutely top notch really difficult skill.

Good finish today apart from the offside.

He’ll come good imo.

I hope you’re right but I much prefer those players who impress us from the start though. After almost half a century of watching dem Blades I’m still waiting for those players who fans said “would come good”, to come good. It’s usually a bad omen.

As is “record signing”. With the possible exception of James Beattie, has there been one “record signing” who has lived up to the price tag?

Agree to date. Watched him for Scotland the other night and he looked woeful. But it can all come good in a heartbeat and he hasn’t really had a run of games.

Saw him v Blackburn reserves and he was awful too!

I'm going to take a stab at where most people's frustration stems from.

He and Maupay were the two options. Maupay has started well and looks a very good buy, comfortable at this level.

Two things:
  1. Maupay has played regularly so far, McBurnie hasn't.
  2. Maupay has out and out pace which makes him look good at this level and helps him to have a more immediate impact. McBurnie doesn't although he will put himself about for the cause. It's the point above about him not seeming a natural athlete.
We need to make him the focal point of the attack and whilst Wilder's side will always expect him to press, we should ask him to invest less of his time and energy into that and focus on being in the right places.

Do you think he’s better than Leon Clarke?

I’m just wondering like...😲

So you missed the exquisite ball to put Didzy through one on one?
Do you wish to hang your hat on that ?

Can you not accept that, perhaps due to a personal preference, the lads been ineffective thus far ? If not, you’re in great company 😉

Good in the air (which as we all know, awards muchos kudos in these ere parts) but not shown a great deal else.

Just highlighting the error in your post, that’s all.

And I’m just pointing out that it is probably very difficult for some folks who have formed a strong opinion on a player only to have that theory crushed by the evidence to fully accept what is in plain sight, and for all to see.

Blinding header vs Leicester or defence splitting pass yesterday fully accounted for 😉.

As has been the case with you & certain players in the past, of course.

Good finish yesterday too, and it wasn’t him offside.....

As ever after a defeat, I think there are a lot of polarised views.

Based on what I've seen of McBurnie, I think he will go on to be a good/useful striker for us because he has a couple of attributes (and potential attributes, with some work and more game time). However, I can totally accept that for some he just isn't their cup of tea.

He can be clumsy, he likes to battle but loses as many of them as he wins, no obvious turn of pace and clearly not as a good a footballer as McGoldrick or Robinson technically.

On the flip side, he is a fantastic finisher with his head (see goal versus Leicester and others for Swansea), and actually seems to be a pretty good finisher full stop. Great conversion rate last year. He could do with getting a bit stronger, I think it would suit his game to put 6-7 lbs lean mass on, a bit of upper body strength. Doubt it would be to the detriment of his football in any way.

I understand the horses for courses argument but but generally, I'm wondering whether Wilder/we would get some benefit from picking a 'first choice' front two for the next few games to allow the chance for a partnership to develop. Who those two are - dont know!?

Though his all-round play yesterday was not impressive, the reaction to yesterday is ridiculous. Football is about fine margins, and yesterday those margins were not even his doing. First half - split the defence with a great pass, fellow-striker fails to beat the keeper. Second-half, scores with a good finish, Egan is given a whisker off-side. On another day, through no fault of his, he is a hero with an assist and a goal. Patience is a virtue.

That's kind of my point though. Why did we have to buy from the Championship? It massively inflates a players value and is no guarantee of success.
because we couldn’t afford Neymar?? :)
that’s our market.. buy the best players from the league below because most of them will make the step up to the next level.. problem is it usually takes 5-6 games for them to bed in so we have this overreaction at the beginning of every season recently

On reflection, taking goal scoring chances into consideration we should have won that game, again and not for the first time the worse culprit has been Mc G..
But because we know in the past he has score goals he gets away with it, scot free, no problem because people say it's not his job to score goals it's his job is to lay goals on for others, how many chances has he laid on for Mc B so far ?
I'd say if you've GOT to go looking for a scape goat your looking at the wrong guy

McB played a perfect ball to McG who flubbed the chance and if VAR had used the proper handball rule McB would have scored his 2nd goal.

Are you serious? The Championship is not our only market. Nobody is expecting Neymar but to suggest we could only shop in one league is preposterous.

For what it's worth I haven't said McBurnie is bad or won't come good, I've only made the point that he isn't the full package yet and with a bit of clever shopping, perhaps looking outside our own backyard, £20m could have got someone who would have hit the ground running.

Looks like a colossal waste of money to be honest. Can't believe we've spent 20 million quid on him, looks so average.

Unfortunately him or Maupay was best options we could get as for some reason we don't like signing players from abroad who are cheaper and usually better

like who?

Scapegoat announced. Apart from Chelsea where he was quite ineffective, i've liked the look of him from what i've seen. His movement off of defenders is top notch, played a lovely ball through for McGoldrick to bury yesterday, put one in the back of net albeit ruled out through no fault of his own and could have possibly been the one to have the penalty yesterday if we got it. Get the rub of the green and we are looking at a totally different level of stats and he is justifying his price tag.

Give the lad a chance, he's been bit part so far tbf but i think a run of consistent games and we will be seeing a good player on our hands.

Irrespective of the strikers in question I haven’t yet seen anyone good enough to dislodge Sharp as our main talisman and he should’ve had more game time until our newbies get up to scratch, both in terms of getting to know our system and fitness.

I don’t know what Sharp has had to do to get a chance in the starting lineup, I thought yesterday’s game was perfect for him too.

Now we’re going to miss him partly down to his frustrations of not getting his chance in my humble opinion.

For me, Wilder has missed a trick in not giving Billy more minutes, call it bladey claptrap or whatever other wank sayings there are out there but this is just what I think.
