Next Season’s expectations

We need a new manager that has a system that is adapted to modern football. But someone that also has a plan B/C if required.

With that we need to get rid of the deadwood that won't take us forward. Easier said than done, but I think only 6/7 players could realistically take us to the play offs next season. Our back line is dreadful! I'm hoping Cooper is just having a bit of a blip as he has showed quality (last season). Maybe get Moore back from Sunderland to coach him a little and provide the experience in the GK department?

We need a new RW for sure! CB, LW and young hungry striker! Easier said than done but we are Sheffield United!!! It will be interesting to see who goes up. If Ipswich go up, they have 3 decent centre half's, which I wouldn't mind having at all as I'm sure they will invest in better quality they have. Also, that Klarer from Birmingham I really do rate!

On an end note, I think our recruitment staff need to be looked at. Some of the players that came in this season have been dreadful! For the money we had we wasted it. It seemed we went with the reputation rather than seeing them actually play.

I always look forward to seasons in the Championship. It’s a great league, I prefer it to the PL which, frankly, bores me these days.

Next season’s Championship is shaping up to be a corker. I’m expecting some great games against good sides. I would accept a mid table finish provided that we get to see evidence of development and progression, and something being built. Making the play offs would obviously be a measure of success but I wouldn’t want to see that achieved by attempting to grind out dour 1-0 wins.
The Premier League is more boring to watch, but I'd rather be an established, stable and boring Prem side with the odd shot at the FA Cup like Palace.

The Championship is brutal and we seem to have drama every season of some kind. I know a chaotic roller coaster is seen as the Sheffield United way, but I want something better than that.

My expectations are Wilder does the rebuild, bringing some of the young un’s into the squad alongside older heads. I can see a few tweaks in backroom staff, I know some are saying Billy will be back to help out but maybe one or two more also.

I’d expect the first 11 to be challenging for the play off’s whilst we re-focus on developing academy talent with a view to paths to first team squad.

P.S- I’m hoping rather than expecting for some of the attacking football we saw earlier this season under Wilder than the recent return to scraping out results.

Has anybody got any insights into the relationship between Wilder and the owners now?
Obviously, what transpired over the summer and with his return,Wilders hand has been strengthened in that relationship,so are they listening to him more and basing future decisions on what he is telling them, with the possibility that the current problems may not be solved,or have they got another sounding board they can turn to that may tell them information they are not getting?
For example, any owner of a club should be asking questions about the failure to convert numerous winnings positions into actual wins, but what are our owners seeing, are they aware,if they are,are they seeing it as the big problem that it is,and if they are, what are they being told.
We already know that the Bord adventure proves they are novices in the game of English club ownership, but is Wilder now the only one who is going to try and educate them more, with all his pluses and minuses?
My hope is that the this season has reinforced that the decision was right to let him go but they need to spend the next 12 months improving the structure and operations of the club so whoever comes in isn't left floundering.

My wife summed it up quite well.

We've been together ten years, she admits to knowing not that much about football, and dead seriously she said to me the other day "why did you decide to support such a shit team" 🤣🤣🤣.

Always next season though, it's the hope that kills you right!

Sounds like mine when I said I was off to last seasons play off final even though I had ruled it out from the time before and also when we went into the playoffs. She did the usual classic line of just because you are there it doesn't mean they are going to win or not. Obvious justification yeah but I can't take that chance

Met my wife 22 years ago and she's never known the Pigs in the Premier League. The Mighty Blades may have our ups and downs but at least we're not that shit...

I am expecting to have a much more enjoyable season. But that’s because I’m moving north and will be able to get to many more games. Days out with the family, beer and football. As a wise friend once said and it’s worth repeating “don’t let the 90 minutes ruin your day out at football”.
