"We’ve taken a look at Cash’s stats from the 2019/20 season to get a feel for what he could offer Chris Wilder’s team.

While a spot on the right of Sheffield United’s back five is a little different to a role on the right of some other Premier League defences, Cash’s tackling and interception numbers remain significant.

He has completed 2.6 tackles per game in the 2019/20 campaign (all stats via WhoScored ), a tally bested by just six players in the Championship, many of whom play in midfield.

In contrast, no member of the Blades’ squad has averaged more than 2.2 (with Chris Basham leading the way and Enda Stevens just behind), while George Baldock - on the right for the bulk of their first Premier League campaign under Wilder - registering 1.6 per game.

Cash has also averaged 1.4 interceptions per game under Sabri Lamouchi, good enough for a top 50 spot in the second tier and a higher return per game than every United player other than Basham and John Egan.

He also doesn’t get dribbled past all that much, though his 0.8 times per game - while fewer than several United men - is higher than Baldock’s 0.5 average. He can beat Baldock on blocks, though the 0.3 per game return is less than the numbers posted by United’s centre-backs, either the regular starters or back-up options Jack Robinson and Phil Jagielka.

While a season-long return of five assists from 42 appearances falls into the ‘good but not great’ category, Cash’s chance creation remains impressive.

He has recorded 1.1 key passes per game - a tally bested by just two Forest players with 90 minutes or more of game-time and on a par with the likes of Gjanni Alioski and Helder Costa of champions Leeds United. Not only that, but this is Cash’s best per-season return in that metric since his Forest debut.

Only two Sheffield United players are north of one per game this season, and one of them - Oliver Norwood - is boosted by his set pieces. Even last season, playing for a team which won enough games for a top-two spot, no Blades defender could match Cash’s 1.1 per-game return.

However, while Cash is in fine company when it comes to key passes, his overall pass completion leaves a bit to be desired. A 70.3% return across the season is his best in a Forest shirt, but leaves him outside the top 200 in the division when it comes to Championship players with a number of appearances greater than the divisional average.

It’s a lower return than any United player with more than 10 starts in last season’s promotion campaign, while forwards Lys Mousset and Oli McBurnie are the only players with 10 or more starts under Wilder in the Premier League who have a pass completion lower than Cash’s this season."

Kyle walker-peters sold for 12mill. Is Matty Cash is as good or better? One a proven premier league player, the other a proven championship player. Good luck to Forest getting 15mill. Keep on em CW.

I had a look on Forest's forum yesterday expecting to see the usual comments when a player looks like leaving, "he's not that good", "take the cash we have better", "plays 1 good game then 3 bad" and so on.
But no every comment was positive about him and their main worry was would the club invest the money they got from him in the squad because losing him would make them weaker.
They didn't even slag us off, alot of them even thought signing for us or Southampton over West Ham would be a good move for him.

Not even any anger mentioned towards the player? I was hoping for at least one “Burning Cash” thread.

I think CW is worried about the Everton and Leicester games where we couldn't get behind them. He knows next season teams are going to overload the full back positions to nullify our overloads. So with 5 subs he can change it about to offer different attacking options.
The 5 sub situation has not been agreed yet and hopefully it wont.Surely more clubs would prefer the 3 from 7 ,the top clubs will want 5 as they have lots of players who are up to par this would encourage them to inflate there squads even more.
There must be enough premiership clubs to vote against it as all it does is make the wealthiest stronger and weakens the rest it has to be resisted.

Thought there'd be some anger about him responding to Jack Robinson's instagram. Bit petty, Cash.

Already looking forward to hearing a bit more about his game from the man himself tbh. We’ve not always used the ball well in the final third from his position, so hearing some thoughts from Cash on delivery would be particularly welcome.

A high tackle per game can indicate poor positioning and general reading of the game. For context, Van Dijk averages 0.7 tackles per game and Alexander-Arnold, 1.6. Respect Cash gets back and makes a tackle but against better players in the Prem, poor positioning could be an issue although granted we have the excellent Bash to likely cover.

Of course you'd say Forest are nowhere near as good as Liverpool who have higher general possession and therefore aren't likely asked as many questions, defensively. But I wouldn't get too excited by Cash's stats. I'd say Cash has the foundational core of a good player and if we sign him, CWAK will likely kick him on to another level in time.

You say that, but these same clubs voted it in, in the first place.
I predict we'll be the only side in the top 10 to vote against it

I wonder if anyone has put a bet on him leaving Forest this transfer window?

Should be a good Cash out.

Walker-Peters has started 16 league games and come on as sub 6 times.

Cash has 111 Championship starts and 30 sub appearances.

Cash is 1yr younger than Walker-Peters. I'd say as a footballer alone, Cash has more experience.

I don’t know if the puns would have been better or worse if we had been interested in Joe Lolley....

That was one thing he needs to improve on according to the Forrest forum, but they seem to think there would be no better person than Wilder to help him do that.

I have just read your post again whoosh 😆

We could get short changed. Buy Sterling instead. Pound for pound is he worth it? Penney just dropped.

Oh they can get much worse

Can't see it happening whilst he's on holiday in Nothern Greenland.
