It was founded by Gastric Lee of the Cross and then sold to BT who promptly fucked him off.

It wasn't founded by him. I worked for Force9 Internet (which became Plusnet) >20 years ago. Plusnet was founded by Paul Cusack (who sold Plusnet for £67 million and then founded Ebuyer - so probably isn't short of a few bob!). As stated, Lee was a minority shareholder. He was left holding the baggage when everyone else cashed-in when BT bought them (and then, as you said, they promptly fucked him off).

It isn't Plusnet as "financial" not "tech" was mentioned, but it would be funny as fuck if it was Plusnet, for no other reason than Lee Strafford would shit a brick!
