So we were 100% interested in Freeman then. What a shock.

Wilder said he was one of the bids we had in as of Monday.

So it's reassuring to know that we were hoping to sign him in addition to Woodburn, because that's exactly what we should have been doing.

Quite a bit apart on valuation, by the sound of things. So probably unlikely to happen in the near future either?

He'll only have one year left on his contract next summer so don't rule it out.

Alhough I suspect whether we'll be able to get him or not depends on how good a season he has.

Seeing just how good that Eze is, QPR could be more willing to sell Freeman come January.

Thought Freeman looked quality today, very good on the ball.

Only thing i noticed is how one footed he is but still not enough to put me off thinking he'd be a cracking signing.

I did see him play one effortless lofted pass with his right foot, there's a chance it was someone else though as it's hard to be certain when watching a stream.

To be honest i was working on my laptop whilst watching on Bein Sports so didn't have 100% concentration on the game but from what i saw he'd be excellent as an alternative to Duffy in the No10 role.

Still not sure Woodburn is a No10. Think he's probably better as a 2nd striker.

Freeman was quality first half but disappeared second I thought.

That Eze looked different gravy.

Luke freeman looked class creating moves for them today. hope Wilder puts a new bid in but he said qpr were way off in their valuation

Its very unlikely now bud, as they'll have to accept a loan with a view to a permanent and by the sounds of it they don't want to sell. I think, as good as Freeman is, that what we really need is someone like Eze who has the ability to score from nothing and pace. Duffy will still be good enough for this season I think but if we want a replacement for a like for like Duffy then Freeman would be it.

yeah that kiddy Eze looked quality as well. 20 year olds that are that much of a threat on goal cost cash though, and we don't seem to have it. wed have to strike lucky on someone young from the lower leagues. (dare I say Che Adams)

Freeman was ripping it up for Stevenage a few years ago. He looked amazing back then. One of the best players to play against us.

Eze was ripping it up for Wycombe Wanderers not long ago.

If we’d gone in for either of these players back then we could have signed them for peanuts.

Who are the next ones that are currently ripping it up in the lower divisions I wonder?

He and that Eze were QPRs best players. Would fit into our team perfectly however seems valuations are far apart.

I don’t really see the pull of playing for QPR the stadium etc was really poor.

If we want to take other teams best players we have to be prepared to pay the going rate and at this moment in time the going rate is high. Fernandez knows other teams will be interested in Freeman and will extract maximum value.

We've got the improved budget and 12m from Brooks so at some point we may have to take a punt or we accept we aren't competing in the market for top championship players and hope we can continue to build without them.

LoNdOn.

In January he'll have 18 months left on his contract. And no doubt Eze will have established himself further.

There's a very good chance they could sell for under £5m. If so we should go straight in for him.

We need to make sure we get ourselves into a good position in the meantime so we're a viable option for players like this.

Omar Bogle was ripping it up for Grimsby in 2016/17, not really done anything since now on his 3rd club since leaving Grimsby.
Of course he could still come good for Birmingham.
We have signed players from lower league and had some success ie Fleck, but equally some not so successful in Carruthers, Holmes and even Leonard(although again he could still come good). Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Sure. Can’t argue with that. But consider for a moment what the big clubs do. They sniff the slightest inkling of talent and they go in there and buy it up. Take Jacob Mellis of Sheff Utd as an example. Most of us had never heard of him when Chelsea snapped him up at 16 years old. It didn’t work out for him there but it’s not really the point, they got in early that’s the point.

My point is it was blindingly obvious what a good player Freeman was at Stevenage. We should have gone for him then.

As for Bogle...he’s another that I’d have gone for whilst at Grimsby. We can always jettison these players if they don’t work out, but we can’t buy them when they’re out of our prce range.
