The financial repercussions hit big time next season. Their current three year cycle has a 9milllion overspend and the two overspends over 20 million.We are still waiting for exact confirmation of the third year, but it will be worse than the second year and definitely over 20 million. I'm estimating 50 million ish in total. When you take of permissable spending (e.g academy spending) they are saling close to the wind even this year. You are allowed a 39million overspend every three years. Next year the 9 million season drops off and leaves them three years in the 20 some million bracket.There's no way they are squaring that; unless they bring mega money in through player sales.
They've sold Hunt, loaned Rhodes and released a few players this year.
The problem Wednesday have is this. Do they go shit or bust this season and not have a fire sale?
If they get promoted it renders FFP insignificant, as long as they squeeze in below 39m. If they don't, next season they are utterly fucked and a fire sale may not be enough to help them. Going for promotion means that players- whose contracts they can't afford to renew - become out of contract, and other big assets run their contracts down. For example, Forestieri could be sold right now as a player with a two year contract. His value as a player with a one year contract will diminish next summer.If he gets a serious injury, disaster. Bannan, Joao, Lee, Westwood etc will be out of contract at the end of the season.Should they take the money now?
My sense is that even this season they are still above 39 mill - hence the freezing out of Westwood. If not, why not just release him when he's out of contract next summer?
