He lives at the Mailbox in Birmingham so it'd be an easier commute for him. If he goes, GLTTL, thanks for the memories and the goals!

Believable. Would be a good move for him.

Transfer Centre 9 on twitter saying we have agreed a deal for Leon to head to Coventry with a 2 year deal. Free transfer, feel it may not be as good as the free transfer we did the other way! If true, good luck to Leon and thank you for proving me completely wrong!
That will get him nearer to home. Good move for him I think - good luck and thanks for the memories.

Well it’s possibly a case of using common sense to generate a rumour but to be fair it’s a very good one.

Moving closer to home towards the end of his career, at a level he’ll be comfortable at, at a club doing well and for decent money. We’ll probably have to pay him something to settle his contract with us but I can’t see he’s turn it down if it’s on the table.

Coventry's chief executive has today said there is nothing in this

I wish Leon all the luck in the world BUT I dont get the love in for him. He had a good year with us 2017,scored the 2 v Pigs,4 v Hull & 3 v Fulham. We gave him a new contract in Jan 2018 & all he’s done since is sit on the sidelines taking wages from our club & refusing to leave. The fact he has a Premier League appearance to his name is beyond a joke. Pay him off & get him out of the club asap.

Any evidence of his refusal to leave or are you making it up?

Has he refused to leave? I've not heard that one before. Here's me thinking he went on loan to Wigan last season...

This probably stems from Wilder’s comment in the last window about being disappointed with the attitude of some listed players in terms of finding new clubs, particularly “players I’ve looked after in the past.” That was always going to result in speculation, but I interpreted as Holmes definitely and Evans/Carruthers maybe. It could have been Clarke too, but had it been I doubt he’d have been included in the Liverpool game at the Lane.

Clarke and the other players out of contract would be foolish to stick around till summer,
It's always a free for all and players often end up with no club , the agents know this and will try to move em on.

He hasn't flat out refused to leave but he's not willing to take too much of a wage cut, which is fair enough. It's his biggest ever contract and he'll never get a better one.
I never begrudge players doing this and I find it bizarre that people complain. Would you leave your job on 100k where you're doing fuck all, just turning up, to go to one on 30k and be busy as fuck every day? I'm assuming not. Football is no different.

We gave him this contract, we gave Holmes his, Carruthers his. All with promotion bonuses, wage rises and incentives. It protects the club as well as the player that's how it's always been.
A very small price to pay for the rewards of premier league promotion.

Source: as good as the horses mouth.

You don't take a wage cut for going on loan in fairness

The 'done thing' in football though is that if the player being sold is looking at a wage cut for joining a new team then the selling club would pay them off with a lump sum, to make up the difference. If United are expecting players to just walk away from contracts to go and play for less money then it's not surprising we've ended up with a few sat around seemingly doing nothing. Granted if it was a young player you'd maybe expect them to leave voluntarily to go and get some game time but at Leon's age I wouldn't blame him for wanting to see out his contract here, if the alternative will cost him some income.

Me neither, I've absolutely no problem with it. We gave him the contract at the end of the day.

If he'd scored 14 goals this season and was joining Real Sociedad on a pre-contract everyone would be up in arms that he ran his contract down, and the club didn't do enough to keep him etc. It's one of them things.

When we signed him I thought carthorse but he will leave a bit of a ledge wherever he goes... GLTTL

Presumably with 4 likely in this window, and only 3 out so far if Bryan goes, we won’t be allocating Clarke a place in the 25 if nobody comes in for him.

Tailor made for Rotherham.
Doesnt have to move home, a team top of league 1 destined for championship next season!

I think because of his age clubs are waiting to take Clarke on a free transfer. Although I am sure we would just pay him up if a club was interested in him.
