Just looks like The Star style click bait to me. He would be absolutely insane or just wanting one last pay day to join Villa.

How many players fall out with Villa.... We have mentioned just a few over the last few days.

McCormick, Hutton, Lansbury, Abanglahor (or however you spell it). The list could go on if I could be arsed to look into it further.

Give the lad an extra couple of grand performance related.

I'd go along with that.

He's hit a purple patch, something which seems to have eluded him at his last few clubs. Who's to say he'll keep scoring if he went to Villa? He's got it good here, a manager who believes in him, and he's winning the doubters (including me) over. Why risk that?

Interesting dilemma as upto 6 weeks ago, you'd have said we could be interested in doing business. Especially with Donaldson sat on the bench.

I guess it comes down to Tufty's judgment as to whether this purple patch is temporary or more longer term? I'll leave Sir Chris to make that call...

CW will know better than us thats for sure. If we did sell him, where else do we get those goals from without spending more than we'd get for Clarke?

Donaldson? The guy has only played one game...

I guess it's tests like these which will define Wilder's career. If he thinks Clarke's stock is high and he can get an overinflated price - then that's the gamble!

I personally think the x2 CF tactic isn't Wilders long term plan. I see him playing 1 CF with one of Duffy, Brooks, Carruthers and sticking 3 guys in centre mid. Like we did at Hillsborough... In that case a large bid might make Wilder think long and hard...

Ok, to run with this...how much would you sell him for at the moment though..

Possibly. Myself, I'm not sure he's the answer but then I said that about Clarke and look how thats turned out! I'd think it'd have to be someone already here because to go out and buy those goals, every club in the League is after that sort of player.

I think you're right. It'd be interesting to see what happens if Villa went North of £2m (I've just plucked that figure out of the air really).

I desperately hope it's not his agent starting this rumour.

I'd be very surprised if he didn't want to stay and break the 20 goal mark in the Championship.

We probably need to give him an improved contract though.

Esa, personally I wouldn't given the form he is in. Having said that, if I was in CW's position and knew what he knew, I might think different.

In short, fuck knows ;)

Which is why Tufty is paid very well to run the club. For the first time in living memory I have 100% confidence in whatever decision the manager makes. He has been 100% correct on every personnel decision thus far...

In today's game though it'd have to be a lot further North than £2m. A 20+ goal striker in the Championship?!?! S6 Shitday paid £10m for Rhodes....

Peanuts to them...and if it takes our main goal threat, worth it probably...still, let's say £5 million for the Championship's top striker and in form player and Wilder got the money to...oh, hang on a minute...

Another thing about this as well is it's a pretty open secret that CW wants to keep developing the squad and if it hadn't been for agents being twats we would have had 2 strikers in on deadline day. I can't imagine that he isn't planning to do some business in the striking department in January in any case. If this has legs then he might well look at it as part of more general changes - if we could get a couple of million for Clarke it might make it possible to up our sights a bit about new guys coming in. Having said this though, if it was me I'd want to keep him - he's made himself an essential part of the squad at the moment.

They’d have to offer him a 2 year contract at least because he has 18 months left with us. And they’d need to pay us some cash.

Obviously Villa are loaded and can afford it and he would be closer to home.

Leon’s form is excellent over the last 2.5 years, 40 goals in 80 appearances with several last season as sub.

Our advantage is we can guarantee games which is what he says he craves. An extended injury free run in a side and he says he’ll get goals.

Hope there’s nothing in this.

I think Leon has been around enough clubs now to realise when he's got something good.

Mind you, if he supports Villa, who knows?

Leon could be tempted with a big wage for 2 years and a transfer fee. Villa could use him this season and then afford to ditch him next season with a pay off.

It all hinges on the intent of the board. Said it before and will say it again, if we get new investors the day after the JTW closes we will know we are in the sh!t. If new investors with real intent are coming in it will be in December or January at the latest.

Let's put it this way, if he carries on scoring, at his current rate, for another 5 - 6 weeks we'd be absolutely nuts to sell and should be looking to improve his deal. If, on the other hand, he suddenly dries up and doesn't score again by the 30th of January, a sizeable bid might be worth a gamble and GLTTL Assuming that there are a couple of new strikers in the building by then...

Clarke is in the form of his life. Has found a manager that understands him. Is an influence in the dressing room and popular with his team mates and a fans favourite why would we consider selling him to a promotion rival. Some people need to give their heads a shake £2 million! He's the leading goalscorer in the championship and his form puts him in the £10 million plus bracket.

The only issues for him are travelling from Birmingham and his contract only having 18 months left. Simple we need to give him an extension and improved contract in January and tell Villa to do one. Ambitious clubs looking to get promoted don't sell their leading scorer in the transfer January window.

He'd have to be interested if they offered him a contract to the summer of 2020 by which time he'd be 35. Don't know what his value would be, but you'd hope the club wouldn't sell for less than £2.5m AND with Wilder's blessing.

I can't see Wilder wanting to sell. Where's he going to find another striker with Leon's current strike rate for even than at least £5m?

I'm pretty sure that he'd be viewed as no more than a stop-gap by Villa while Khodija is injured so hopefully Leon would realise that and want to stay with us where he's more or less guaranteed a starting place.

You'd never get £10m for a player just 3 months from his 33rd birthday. £2-2.5m is more realistic given his age and length of his current contract.

Thats the idea. We should quote silly money to ward off bids. Where are we going to get a 13 goal plus striker to replace him for £2.25 million. Would be insane to let him go for that price.

True and I said as much in my other post, but I think rather than put a daft price tag on him, the club would just say "We don't want to sell". I suppose either way, it could piss the player off if he wanted to move. We hear that Leon has form for sulking, however the current view from all at the club seems to be that he's a delight to work with.

If they do actually make a move for him, it could put Wilder in a tricky situation if the final decision is his.
