Prefer Phillips as he's from Yorkshire and 'gets the club', rather than foreign muck like Riedewald... We'll never shake Brexit Blades under Wilder.
Not when fans like you make every outcome about it 😒

I can't get my head around the decision on any level. His loan spell was the best advert for not signing him.

Poor fitness, poor discipline and never really showed flashes of being anything more than an OK footballer for the level.
He ruined our chance to do something memorable against Wednesday too.

I stand by the assertion that Riedewald is a better player and he'll have been on 50% of what we were paying Phillips (and probably 10% of what KP earns).

You are always saying "We are making the wrong decisions" over and over again!

He’s not wrong on this one though is he.
We cannot sign anyone until 15th June.

Who has said we are going to sign Phillips?

I liked Jairo but he hasnt played one game for 90 minutes for us so signing him would be a big risk as we no longer have parachute payments.

How is the SCR going to affect us?

We dont know our transfer budget for the summer.

He’s not fully fit.
He won’t ever be fully fit.
We don’t know what the wage situation is, if he’s paid up he’ll be wanting 40K minimum.

No chance he’ll get paid up. It doesn’t make sense for Phillips to give up any money to end his contract early and City ain’t going to just pay him all the money he stands to make.

No chance anyone would give him £40k, unless there is a football club owner that’s just woke up from a coma and still thinks it’s 2022.

No, I'm with you. Talented, calm on the ball and good counterbalance player to start alongside the youngsters (Peck & Blaster). However, I became increasingly frustrated at his inability (unwillingness?) to push himself to be fitter. To stay on longer than 60 minutes.
I can only assume the backroom staff, along with Jairo have decided at his age and maybe with some underlying issue, that's as much as you're going to get from him and a club in our financial position, can't take the risk of banking on an older pro, on good money to give us a decent 58 minutes every week.

Also, the Blackburn game, I could have slapped him. He constantly dropped into the back 4, reducing the forward options into midfield, which meant we were suffocated at the back and couldnt get up the pitch. For a player of his experience, that was shocking. He was hooked at half time and I wonder if that was a nail in the coffin. Where Wilder thought "Ok, I am not even getting a good 58 minutes anymore"

You realise this is the rumours thread, yeah?

Take the two Wednesday games this season, Jairo in one and Phillips in the other.

At Hillsborough, Jairo nullified their midfield, broke up the play and it therefore allowed us to create chance after chance. We could’ve realistically won that game by four or five considering how many chances we missed.

At BL we’re on top through Hamer / Bamford being clinical. A second through Burrows and we’re coasting. Then Phillips gets sent off early into the second half needlessly and we’re under the cosh. A better team would’ve capitalised, Wednesday nearly did.

It’s a small sample size of course but you could see the effect of both players respectively, and while Jairo had fitness issues he still brought a level of calm to midfield that allowed our more ball playing, creative players to advance up the pitch. I didn’t see that with KP, generally he looked ok but as a loan signing he didn’t stand out.

If we’re seriously going down this route then I’m more concerned than excited.

Doesn't really help the point I'm trying to make in a positive way re: Phillips... but it could quite easily have been 6 or 7 if he'd stayed on the pitch.

The first half at BL in my opinion was better than we played in the entirety at Hillsborough

For the first 30 minutes. The last 15 minutes of the half was spent knocking the ball around in our own half until we got boxed in, and passed back to Cooper, who would belt it long. We'd win it back, and knock it around in our own half, etc.

Just like the playoff final. On top, forget it's a Final, drop back, get beat. Luckily Wednesday were not good enough to take advantage of that or Phillips' idiocy.

If we're doing small samples, I thought Phillips turned the game when he came on against Boro as they were no longer able to bully our midfield.

The best scenario is that he stays fit , plays lots of games, and is successful, at the end of the season having re-established himself he goes to a PL club on loan and we start again.

The worst scenario is he takes up 2 lots of wages and is available for half the games leaving us short of options.

Even at 50/50 of either its not worth the risk .

When he lets players like Jairo leave to persue a project that is never gonna be beneficial for us
How could you possibly know this was Wilders decision?
I'd say between him, the board and the player, that Chris is probably the least happy with the release. He brought him in, praised the difference he'd made, pursued an extension, then recently said how much stronger he'd be after a preseason..

Is it just me that thinks Jairo wasn't actually that good, and is not really that bothered he's not been offered a deal.
I’ve said this for a while. Even putting aside his fitness issues he only contributes to one half of the game. He’s great at breaking up play and positionally quite smart but he contributes absolutely nothing when we have the ball. When the other midfielder drops deep to find space Jairo will stand their next to him shuffling the ball side to side.

When he does push up to the half way line he hasn’t got the pace or acceleration to stop counter attacks.

He did a good job coming in to a very delicate, unbalanced midfielder but we can definitely upgrade him.
