Going against alot of the grain from above here but...

We need more options up top and he might be a useful one if we can get something out of him like what he has produced over his career.
He may be a good foil for the side in terms of hold up and bringing players into play. Which is what we need a bit of.

I'm not backing him to do well I'm just open to giving him a go. I'd only want to see a contract though through to Jan or end of season for now given his age.

Several seasons ago this forum and the fanbase was doing it's nut in when we missed out on Waghorn and signed Didsy.
Sometimes the signings you least expect end up being worthwhile. If he signs give him a chance.
I don't see anything but pain and misery with this one!!

I hope I'm wrong, I really do, but I can't see it. He has been shite for years

Why would any manager want this guy, really?
Just to make sure we’ve got another ‘attacking sub’ to put on when Campbell is blowing out his arse after 60 mins and Bamford gets pissed off with having to challenge for long balls against 6ft 4in defenders.

I imagine that opposition defenders will be shitting themselves at the prospect of a Cannon/Ayew partnership for the last 30 mins.

If we sign Ayew ,and whilst it's not the greatest signing I do understand it to a degree .
We lack physicality up front , something that One showed in his brief appearance.

Even if Ayew can do 45 / 60 mins and interchange with One it ties up centre halves more than our other options .

It might go wrong and he might not give us what we need however I can see the logic.

It's not exciting. It's short term.

We're highly unlikely to be able to sign the quality we want/Wilder wants on this year's budget. We've missed out on many players according to Wilder so now we're desperate for the best of what's left.

The sooner fans realise that this season is a reset the better. I'd take 4th bottom now quite frankly. Only three teams go up though and they'll be a lot of teams in a more similar situation to us next summer.
Exactly this for our team and the point for others next season. Yes it sucks, yes it will be a horrible season, but we'll be putting ourselves in a good place for next season.

As for free agent signings, they are that for a reason. He won't be on a long term contract, he's unlikely to be here next season, and he's likely to only be on a short until the jtw.

He won't have had a preseason, yes he will need to get upto speed and yes he will take a little time to integrate into the team.

Worst case scenario he's a failure, best case scenario he's a good signing, right now there's a space that we can fill - alternately we can leave the space empty and just moan.

I can't believe Wilder is still pushing the "need experience" narrative. He talks about the likes of Burrows (24 y.o, 200+ career apps) and Cooper (26 y.o, 200+ career apps) as if they are first season pros.

We have more experience than the majority of sides in the league. What we desperately lack (and have for years) is athleticism.

I just can't get my head round how he hasn't cottoned onto that, having witnessed it first hand in our Prem seasons and against the top sides in this division.
Don’t forget that seasoned 27 year old youngster Rhys Norrington-Davies. Though to be fair him being our oldest left back despite still being viewed as an academy prospect about a year ago really makes me feel old.

It’ll be one of Zatterstrom or Grbic going out of the 25 man squad. I thought Grbic had already gone and Zatterstrom to Crakovia had been sorted.

If he signs he may suprise people, add something different to the forward line, score the odd goal and play well, you never know.

True but he could also end up being like Danny Ings (another old player with a really good top level pedigree)
…..in that he’s often injured and too slow for 2nd tier level.

If the salary is cheap-ish then it’s an OK signing….we’ll see.
Does seem kind of bizarre that we can’t sign him until we release a squad player.
Seems like someone inside the club has made an error/ oversight regards the rules and Wilder wasn’t made away that we need to lose a player first.

One of these players is Tom Cannon's 25/26 season, the other is Jordan Ayew's 25/26 season...

Ayew on the left, Cannon on the right. As long as Ayew's not a shell and we're not paying him masses then I don't see much harm in this in a "just help us not get relegated" way

I had to chuckle that Cannon scores highest for being dispossessed.
