John Egan

Egan is integral to this side because of his attitude and place in the squad. Losing him in jan is not an option we should be considering.

That said, if Egan’s head is turned and doesn’t want to remain then we take the money if we have a replacement ready

Football is a fickle game

May as well agitate for a move next summer, his SUFC promotion bonus will probably be comparable with / north of any uplift on weekly wages he’d receive from WHU in the 4 months to the end of the season. He’d still get his signing bonus with them as well.

Egans stance right now is that if West Ham come in January then he wants to go, whether that changes or not with our progress I don’t think it will. He’s thinking long term stability. The pencilled in replacement if it happens would be a familiar name due to a low release clause;)

Who have we had on loan at CB?

Not jags fortunately!

Certainly not a plugging of the gap. He’s no Egan but I think he’d more than fit the bill for the attributes as the middle centre half.

Established premier league club, chance of European football, one last bumper contract etc etc.

Cheers for the information BagsmanBilly .
It would be disappointing to lose him but it's understandable that he'd want to secure his long term future.

Is the replacement plying his trade in the Championship at present?

Dion Sanderson possibly? Been linked with him a couple of times.

Release clause though?

If it’s someone we all know, it’s either a previous target or a local player. Have Barnsley got a decent centre half?
Pure speculation on my part. Maybe Davis? Thought he got a bit on unfair flack considering what was going on in his private life.

Was going to say it seemed unlikely given he's at Rangers now but looks like he's hardly played so far.

Craig Dawson. He'd be an adequate replacement and he's at West Ham so would help oil the wheels in any deal.

Dawson a good shout. Same day Egan links to West Ham were popping off, Dawson was being mentioned as leaving in Jan.

Where you heard dis pal?

Imagine that? A Croatian and a Bosnian in the back line. Ain't nobody messing with those two. I was a big fan of Uremovic.

I thought he was very good too. To say he was in an unfamiliar league / country, I thought he developed quickly, looked solid on the ball and read the play well.

I can't remember him defending many crosses though, but know he wasn't the tallest.

January is going to be a bigger test for the board than the window that has just closed.

It's quite feasible that we will keep our current form until then, considering the players we have to come back from injury and as (to me at least) it still feels like we have another gear in us. If that happens we will be sitting on 50+ points, so we could hit relegation form from then on in, and still canter into the play offs.

More likely this team is going to smash 90 points and win the title, based on what I am seeing at the moment, so it would be a bold gesture to break up this group in January. I expect the asking prices for Egan and Berge will remain high though, and I trust the board not to budge on those prices. That has to be the be all and end all for me, not what the players want.

So sorry John, you may want to leave but if we are flying at the top of the table in January, I hope you are told to get your head down for a few more months, and prepare for another crack at the big time with dem Blades. If Spam come back in the summer, then fair enough, as we'll have tens of millions at out disposal to replace you.

Targeting those with release clauses could be the best and most efficient way of recruiting in January, especially if we receive an excessive fee for Egan and therefore have no problem paying a 5m clause for a 4m valued player for example

I'd say it could be Charlie Goode but then I don't see why he'd have any release clause

But he may be a fair shout tbh. Maybe the staff were impressed with him, maybe he fit in well and maybe we've kept an eye on his fitness?

Having someone come in mid season who's already familiar to the squad here has to be worth something

And it'd certainly be worth something having him to throw into the mix at set pieces with Anel

Filip Uremovic?
Bingo. Staff see him as a more Egan type player than a Basham type player anyway but obviously injuries last season meant that he was never tried there. Impressed while here though and an apparent low-ish release clause (I’m unsure on exact figures) means he’s currently number 1 should Egan go

Anyone wanting anymore ITK stuff just ask, just don't ask me who my source is.

Foxy can you please change my username to Richard Cadette MK II please.

I'd be massively disappointed if we sold Egan and replaced him with Goode. Not even in the same ball park.

Goode is only 2 years younger than egan and the chances are come January he won't have played a competitive match in a year. He's not even making the match day squad at Brentford so he's spent the best part of 12 months rehabilitating and training with no competitive football.

Must be dozens of better options than Goode, both home and abroad, for the money.

Absolutely.
My recollection of Ebeneezer was one akin to Nyron Notworthy. Two club feet a 50p head and to cap it all a disgraceful red card. I would contribute to any fund aimed at ensuring that he was never, ever allowed at The Lane again, let alone wearing our shirt.

Uremovic is made for that middle role so if he was available would be a good number 1 choice

But again I don't see why he'd have a low release clause - Hertha was a great move for him

Could we offer him better wages? Maybe. The range he could be on at Hertha is quite wide

Seems odd. Egan distributes the ball a lot for us - can't recall that passing (particularly long range) featured in Uremovic's game.

Also he totally lost his place in the team while still fit, didn't he? Could be wrong.

I have no intention to doubt you and thank you for sharing, though I do wonder why we didn’t sign him for free in the summer when he was available.
