John Egan

We haven't rejected £13m that's our price. Leeds maybe haven't even bid and just asked the question. Or they have made a low bid and we've said £13m of fuck off. They have subsequently fucked off
8 or 9m was mentioned and that is fantastic money for him, purely from a business point of view before considering football impact, replacement etc

I wouldn't have thought we would have picked the phone up for less than 10 this late so fair play to the board

I would like to imagine the conversation went something like this. 'hi, we would like to make a bid for John Egan, £9m'

Bettis ' not bad that we'll consider it and get back to you, what club did you say you were from? LEEDS!? £13M minimum pal jog on'

If only "Steak and Veg" had done that back in 1993 with Leeds, regarding the Brian Deane transfer! Ironically Brealey told Wednesday it would be £2.9m to Wednesday, as opposed to £2.7m to Leeds, but we should have done the same for Leeds. Whether than £200,000 would have meant another player we'll never know but it is refreshing to hear us turning bids down for our key players!

I also think we missed a trick not getting Lee Chapman as part of the deal for Deane as he would have been much better suited to replacing Deane than Flo who was best playing in an unusual position as a right forward, not a centre forward. If this all makes no sense because it's nearly 30 years old, we effectively got relegated the day we sold Deane and then spent 14 years out of the top flight as a result.

I was born in 93 but it's a very similar story my dad has told me numerous times 😂

£12m in the bank & replace him with another £3/4m Ahmedhodzic might be tempting for the owners.

I think losing Egan in January as our captain would be a huge mistake though if we’re still up there.

If we we were talking £30m it would be different but, in the grand scheme of things £12m now vs say £8m if we miss out on promotion is nothing in the context of what is at stake. Biggest issue is that it would send all the wrong messages to staff and fans. Egan doesn’t strike me as the type of player who would do a Lundstram if we insisted he stayed for this season? However, He may think that the stars have aligned with a desperate PL buyer who would give him a contract that sets him up for life. That may not be the case next Summer.

Egans stance right now is that if West Ham come in January then he wants to go, whether that changes or not with our progress I don’t think it will. He’s thinking long term stability. The pencilled in replacement if it happens would be a familiar name due to a low release clause;)

Not jagielka again 🤣

What is your opinion of the likely replacement?
young guy to develop or old has been to plug the gap?

Not jags fortunately!

Certainly not a plugging of the gap. He’s no Egan but I think he’d more than fit the bill for the attributes as the middle centre half.

Does this equate to he's thinking of pound signs? He's got stability here.
Established premier league club, chance of European football, one last bumper contract etc etc.

Egan is integral to this side because of his attitude and place in the squad. Losing him in jan is not an option we should be considering.

That said, if Egan’s head is turned and doesn’t want to remain then we take the money if we have a replacement ready

Football is a fickle game
