Nowadays when he takes a corner it doesn’t clear the 1st man. No excuses for that
This is a complete myth.
The first man is usually on the front post, sometimes on the edge of the 18y box. How many times does he hit any of those??

I thought McAtee showed a lot of promise last night. His touch may be the best we've ever seen at the Lane. Could have had a goal, an assist and a penalty before half time. Lots of lovely passes, deals so well with mediocre passes hit to him with a bit too much pace or lacking accuracy, he just gets it down or passes it on anyway. I found myself wanting the others to just give him the ball almost every time.

Coming from Man City, he may be used to opponents being a bit more stand-offish and there were occasions where he lost possession under pressure or tried a dribble that wasn't really on. He'll learn to deal with that. Markers will try to kick him out of the game, but I think he'll learn to beat them anyway. A number of times he escaped pressure and found time on the ball due to his ball control. I liked how he also dropped deep at times, rather than just hanging about in the number ten area.

Defensively, his pressure play is decent as well. He's light weight, but manages to get close to opponents and often gets a challenge in. Not quite as well as the magnificent Ndiaye, but better than most others.

I can't wait seeing him with Ndiaye and Berge and hopefully we'll get the blend right around them as well.

Said on shoutbox it was clearly evident, even from the minimal highlights, that his calmness and touch in the final third mean he's going to be a very useful player for us. All the forwards should be looking to playing with him.

Can't see him being on the bench for too long.

Thought he showed good promise yesterday, looked sharp for second balls and was hungry to show for passes and always looked for forward options before playing backwards if needed, great work for the red card too. I think it was a tough game for him to debut in with sunderland bullying him a bit, often he'd get to the ball first or turn his man well but still come out losing the ball because he'd quite easily be shoulder barged or blocked off the ball. Against less physical sides and with a bit of work in the gym I think he could be a real promising young talent (that we'll lose at the end of the season :( )

I was worried early on he looked like a boy in a mans world but he soon found his way ,I'm really excited about this kid I think the more he plays the better he will get

MGW almost helped fire us to the PL, if McAtee can help finish the job, we'd be saying goodbye from a much better position!
And if every season we can pick up at least one baller like that, even if we can't keep them, I'll be 'appeh!

I said to my dad in the stand, Sunderland were very league 1 agricultural and not overly technical, not an easy start for him given that and especially with o Niens tackle on his first game. Will be a very big asset this season. Exciting

Agree, his debut was a real learning curve.....which he passed.

Started quite poorly regards adjusting to the speed and physicality, he struggled to make any impression.
As you say he looked like a boy playing in a mans world

but his anticipation and speed of thought got their man sent off and really helped us gain the 3 points.

The rest of the match he was more involved. Didn't do a right lot but you can see he's quality.....with good things to come.

I think after a ropey 10 minutes, you could clearly see he’s got wonderful talent.

He looked good. Neat and tidy.
He got their man sent off which was the pivotal moment of the game. An encouraging debut.

Not worth going over the top over though. He didn't do anything outstanding. He didn't dictate the game or run at players, take men on or create any chances (outside of the red card).

I think it's wise to be patient and not expect too much just yet.

Scoring a Mac-trick tomorrow. 👌

I'm struggling to see what he offers us or what we offer him for that matter. Too lightweight to play as a CM (plus a disastrous style of tackling). Seemingly 4th choice as a AMC and lacks the composure or ability to retain possession.

It would make sense if both ourself and City decided in January to give it up as a bad job.

Have you contacted city to let them know your stance on this ?

Seemed fine when he came on at the weekend.
Think he can offer us a lot.

the 8 minutes of injury time? When he hardly touched the ball despite us drawing at home?

But surely this statement gives more reason to stay optimistic as opposed to writing him off?… he found himself exposed against Luton and he needs nurturing and time, but thankfully we have enough in this area of the squad to afford him this.

It's seems like the mentality that lots of people have, to try to slaughter a player at the first opportunity.
Also seems the same people who bitch like mad when the same player ends up somewhere else and playing well.

"whos this shit? Get shut"
"How come we let all good prospects go?"

The same 8 minutes you've also used to come to a conclusion I assume?
He's been in 10 matchday squads and contributed almost nothing. That's what I'm judging him on. I'm not even particularly blaming him, the signing, so far, seems like a mistake for both parties. Would it not be better using the loan wage for someone who we actively need? Why not bring in a CM instead so Berge doesn't have to play there and can push further forward instead?

I can remember some folk saying similar when MGW first joined us 🤦‍♂️
