Jack O’Connell

Lisandro Martinez will be lining up for one of the favourites for the World Cup at 5' 7".
Yep, the same player that gets targeted in the PL by every team, like Brentford who bullied him for 45 mins, scored 4 and resulted in him getting hooked at half time. And I think he's 5' 9".

It's just a real shame it doesn't say anything about a possible return to playing, which was intimated earlier on this thread. Fingers crossed I'm over thinking that, and this is just Ollie showing his appreciation for the support he's received from Jack, and others, to turn himself into the player we all hoped he would be when he was signed.

He's arguably in the best shape of his career. It may not lead to match fitness, but the bloke is stacked now.

When are they going to release him. He isnt going to play in the championship again ! Tin hat going on!

Why should we release him? He has a contract till the end of the season, so if we release him now we would still have to pay his contract up. At the very least, we should support his attempts to get back to fitness up till the end of his contract.

Half a season to a league one club correct. May look at loaning him out lower down the pyramid until the window opens for professional teams to do business amongst each other in January. But nothing concrete in that regard, just keep your eyes peeled ;)
This still happening? I'm sure if O'Connell was heading out on loan he'd be at least training at shirecliffe by now? And SUFC media would be allover it..

Still doesn’t look good then, more likely he will stay to the end of the season then be released, if at this point he is still not out doing proper grass training and competing in any matches
. Such a shame for him, must have been a horrible few years in football progression, at least he has the comfort of a decent contract etc

Would be nice if the club could find a place for him if he’s interested in staying in football away from the playing side

True, but he's going to have to be extremely realistic as far as salary is concerned now.

Sounds like physio and conditioning is going to be his chosen career path, but unfortunately for him he'll be lucky to be offered owt within a 10th of his current wage.

While I see your point, I'm not sure the club has any obligation here. I mean, it's not like we've not been paying his wages while he's been injured. I assume some of this comes back through insurance, but I don't know if it's all covered. We should definitely be helping him. I'm just not convinced we should be giving him a job if he's not the best person for that job. Harsh as it might sound, it's not like we've got a huge staffing cohort.

Aye I’m not saying to overpay him

I’m going to channel a former poster and suggest that a playing career here doesn’t qualify anyone for a role on its own.

Give people experience, train them, but don’t do a McCabe and think that being a good and loyal United player is enough.

JOC deserves help and support. But whatever he chooses to do, he needs to be good enough for a club with elite level aspirations.
