Also re Ivan Toney. I'm quite sure every man and his dog knows he would've been an absolute steal at £5m from Peterborough when they were in L1 but here's the kicker. CW had Toney on loan at Northampton and when he went from P'Boro to Brentford we were in The Prem and Brentford were in The Champ. Maybe, just maybe, after seeing him up close CW didn't think he was ready to go from L1 to The Prem in one swoop.

Regarding centre backs (people upset about Clarke-Salter/Darling etc)... Considering the limited/sensible budget that we all know about... I think it's reasonable to assume we have our first choice back 3 already. So we're unlikely to spend loads on a CB. OK I'll break down your reply bit by bit just so I'm clear.

Not so much on here but if you're on Twitter or Facebook the amount of pathetic, entitled posts when the transfer window is open really does make me despair. It's the same every time the transfer window is open. The sort of idiots that reply to every post the club puts out eg sponsorship, tickets etc with "sign some fucking players".

What have we done so far?

Nothing. Why is that an issue unless you're an entitled idiot that thinks we have unlimited funds?

All those we have been linked with have gone elsewhere?

How have they been linked? Unless the club came out at the start of the window and said publicly Player X,Y and Z are our targets and the ones we're hoping to sign then everything else is just paper gossip or fans venting their wishlist. There's absolutely no proof we're after these players. Just because some fans think they'd be a good signing doesn't mean the club/recruitment team agree.

Who are we looking at?

No idea and neither does anyone else apart from the recruitment team at The Lane.

What are your expectations?

That we exit the transfer window in a stronger position than we entered it. If we don't then I'll be as vocal as the next man but fans seem to forget we signed MGW at the 11th hour and some of the best loans will only become available late on in the window once clubs have decided what to do with them. In an ideal world we'd have our squad in place for the start of pre season training but that's not how the real world works, as much as I'm sure we'd all like it to.

As for top players that haven't been linked, which top players do you believe will be linked and will actually come here? Even average players that have been linked (most dubiously in my opinion but everyone mentioned wasn't linked - seems a bit far fetched) have gone elsewhere so who exactly are your top players that will be coming? “Linked” means little when the Club keeps its options close to it. There is no reason to believe we have missed anyone that we were really after.
If when we arrive in September the recruitment is not as good as those who moved elsewhere in the Championship then it would be fair to criticise. Until then I remain positive about who we will recruit.

There will be no signings done early despite him saying that is what he and PH want to do. This is simply because we won’t pay the money in either transfer fees or, for free agents, wages that is required to secure early season signings/number one targets.

All our signings will be done late in the window when we can pick up players for cheaper and wages smaller as clubs and players will lower demands.

Any loans will be fine late on and as is always the case with a loan it will be pot luck if they work out.

You’re seriously saying Slav didn’t want Hourihane, Gibbs-White, Davies, Olsen? I know he wanted more but he certainly spunked a lot of money on that lot if he didn’t want any of them. No wonder the board thought twice when he wanted to blow even more while not getting the most out of what we had. I know I had questions especially why he hadn’t accepted the McBurnie bid and then not playing him, why Brewster was on the wing and why we wasn’t getting more out of Berge. All of which was massively reducing the value of our expensive assets while wanting more investment.
He was all wrong for us I’m afraid and we made the right decision to not indulge him further.

The best players aren’t generally available early in any window unless you’re the biggest pull with the biggest wages. We’re unlikely to be the biggest payers in the Championship so any early deals will be either frees or picking up cheap emerging talent from L1.
Any PL player where looking to loan that it top class in this league and a strong certainty to succeed isn't likely be available until the PL squads have been announced. If he does know now he’s going to be waiting to see who’s interested and isn’t going to the Championship unless he has no better offers.
I think we’re likely to be in for Rothwell but he’s a tough get for us but I’ve no doubt we’ve made a good case, ultimately I expect he’ll pick a PL option over us. Is your view that we shouldn’t make an effort for these players when it’s not impossible that he would come to us instead?

What have you seen in him?

Is someone like Armstrong likely to be offered to the Championship if Southampton buy another forward? He didn’t exactly hit the ground running in his first season.
If they’re going to loan him to pump up his confident or retain his value it will need to be this next season so they can decide what to do with him while he has 2 years on his contract. Likewise will Davis be available from Villa if Notts Forest don’t cough up the £15-20M?
