Gary Naysmith had the best game he's ever had in a Sheffield United shirt, Killa was great as usual, Tongey had another good game and Beattie was pure brilliant. Great goal by Squinny and a good penalty by Beatts. Best atmosphere I would say (apart from Wednesday match) and it was brill seeing the Hull fans fighting :D With a few new signings, next season looks very good for us. COYRAWW!!

This is also my 300th post :) LOL

Gary Naysmith had the best game he's ever had in a Sheffield United shirt,

There's a quote from KB on the OS saying he knows Naysmith has had his critics but he's noticing that the fans are now noticing what he can do.

This is also my 300th post :) LOL

Aye, you're an old-timer now... whether you like it or not! :)

I was, like many others wondering why Cotterill was taken off at half time instead of Squinny.

Squinny was excellent in the second half along with a few others.

Well done Blackie!

:D:D:D

I said at half time that he was the one to go, as of the wide men, I thought he was weaker defensively, and while has wasn't truly awful, he wasn't at his best either. Him off, and bolster the defence.

Nobody was more surprised than me when that was what he did ;)

Seems I missed a good game :D

I feared the worst after a skinful already when Morgs had been sent off. Couldn't hear Sir Jeff but saw it on SSN vidiprinter. Anyways, a few vodka cokes later and Brunty comes running up to me....... UNITEDS SCORED, cue us jumping around like retards in the middle of a group of Owls who decided not to go to game even though they had tickets.

Second one cracked in and me and Brunty were living it large.

Singing songs in middle of all owls later on too :D

COYRAWW

Which means Jennifer Saunders is her Auntie :)

Bet family get-togethers are interesting!

Didn't know that.

Prob never meet them, nor am I bothered :D

Anyways, another good dive from Sharp to get another penalty.

Not watched the replay yet, but it looked to me in real time as if he broke through, slowed his run (whether this was to have a better angle at goal or to invite the defender to foul him I don't know) and then was clattered into from behind by the defender.

Not as clear cut as some, but if the defender has hit him from behind causing him to fall then its a pen. Its also worth noting that the defender in question also tried pulling him back as he started his run, similar to Killgallon on Mellor the other week. I'd have thought if he was gonna dive, it'd have been then.

Off to watch the replay :)

To be fair I should have put a smiley face on the end.

I do think he went down rather easily though.

Livermore's caught Sharp's heels as they were running, It's usually given as a free kick outfield so i guess the ref has to give it:)

Do think he was caught though. If your caught, and under alot of pressure, you go down.

Not sure about being caught, and maybe yes there was enough contact to go down.

But..... at the other end of the spectrum, we have Frazer Campbell clearly being pulled and under a lot of pressure and staying on his feet.

How come their man wasn't booked, yet Morgan was?

What was the difference, if any?

Thats what I've been wondering, especially as it would've been a second yellow. Apparently Radio Humberside (Mummy and Daddy were at the seaside:D) said he should've gone.

To be honest, I'm glad he didn't.

Don't know if it's just me thinking it, but we always seem to play worse against 10 men :)

It may have been alot more difficult for Sharp to stay on his feet than you think. This time at least. But if you are saying there was enough contact to go down, then surely he was caught?

And Campbell was pulled back but Morgan didn't put as much pressure on him than what Sharp had.

I may have been a bit hmmmmm hasty in saying he dived, he certainly went down easy if you ask me.

For me there was some contact, but not much. In my opinion its a harsh penalty, however it goes against what I say normally. Because if thats outside the box it is a foul. So effectively yes it is a penalty in the grand scheme of things, but I would be disappointed to give away a soft penalty like that.

I know I'm not putting it over properly, but I do know what I mean.

If you're saying there is an infringement of the rules occuring then I would agree. So yes its a pen, but he went down very easily and its not something I'd personally claim for, unless outside the box haha

Like we did against Leicester?:D

Like we did against Watford when we threw a 2-0 lead away.

To be fair i don;t think Morgan should have been sent off. Yes there was definatly a tug, but Campbell chose to stay up, and he played on with the advantage, he tred to take on Morgs and Morgs stuck the foot in and cleared the ball, I think it was abit harsh looking over it. Sharps was soft yes, i think it was more accidental than anything, he definatly had his heel clipped, but I doubt it it was intentional.

The point of an advantage is that it gets brought back if there is no development in play, as was the case. Referees can go back and book a player at a break in play. Shouldn't have pulled him back there was no need, definate second booking no complaints.
I think Ugo's looked better recently anyway, without being booked:)

We need the forum referee to come and give us his opinion....

MAQ, where are you?

I'm Free :p

just looking back over what people have said so that i dont double post

Were your ears burning my dear? :)

You can quote multiple posts by pressing the button that looks like this

They should then all appear in a reply for you to add to.

Ok then here goes:

S'alright, apparently Morgan was sent off for two yellows. I didn't see the second one, only the red :)

Thi was one thing that picked up on, and maybe its just me but the Dowd did show both cards but in the wrong order. Picky i know but he will be marked down for it.

Here is where alot of problems are caused, and most are by the idiot commentators/analysts on the beeb and sky.

Law 12 of the Laws of Association footbal state that offences can should be categorized in three ways i.e. Careless, Reckless or using excessive force. Now i havent seen the incident with sharp on a replay, and i didnt see it live either as i was at the loo, but if what has been said is true and it looks like he was clipped, then that would be the reason why he didnt get booked for it. We still get a penalty because sharp was through (If thats right. as above i didnt see it)

Law 12 also states that a direct free kick is to be awarded from where the offence occurred if a player holds an opponent. Before i get slated for saying that holding isnt pulling, or "why then didn't he/she get booked" the whole LOAF (Laws of Association Football) is open to inturpretation (spelling please mousey) by individuals (although this isnt stated) and holding thus includes pulling. Pulling could also be included under the "Impedes the progress of an opponent" Either is in fact punishable by a caution.

The point of an advantage is that it gets brought back if there is no development in play, as was the case. Referees can go back and book a player at a break in play. Shouldn't have pulled him back there was no need, definate second booking no complaints.

GCB is pretty much on the money with this one.

Law 5 states-

LAW 5 - The Referee said:
allows play to continue when the team against which an offence has been committed will benefit from such an advantage and penalises the original offence if the anticipated advantage does not ensue at that time

however the reason i think morgan did complain so much is that down was originally giving the freekick, but the Assistant Referee signalled to Dowd that he had seen it differently. insert the following:

LAW 6 - The Assistant Referees said:
when offences have been committed whenever the assistants are closer to the action than the referee (this includes, in particular circumstances, offences committed in the penalty area)

For me the reason Morgan got booked is that the Assistant was closer to the play and also could see that had he not pulled the player back he would have been through on goal. For this reason Dowd saw fit to book him again which was the correct action.

As far as the last point goes morgan should be thanking Dowd, in a backwards sort of way.

As he was the last defender morgan could have been shown a straight red, and as such received a longer ban and a fine, under this rule:

LAW 12 - Fouls and Misconduct said:
denies an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to anopponent moving towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick

I'm going to split this thread because it's effectively gone off topic...
