Not sure if you are winding people up with this.

Are you seriously saying that £3million won't improve our chances of promotion if it . We are in Division 1 so we could easily get 3 players for that money who will see us though.. We have already effectively replaced HM with Butler(if HM leaves.) Butler is a good experienced L1 defender who will be good enough. We do need extra cover there thou which is where the lad from Blackpool comes in

Forget about Coady and Brayford. The lad from Blackpool will cost around £250k at most I reckon due to his lack of league experience . Would also argue whether Coady was one of our 'better' performers last seasons although he did OK. We gave bought Basham and Wallace as well as having Scougall and Baxter so I don't think he will be missed. Right Back and a striker required which I am sure we will get for the remaining £2mill- £2.5million
"if we got the full 3m that would fund a mcghey, Brayford and striker deal then I'd drive him to hull myself....."

The two kyles leaving got us in to the 3rd division
Yes,another one of those fine episodes where we sell for quite alot of money yet didn't see fuck all for it,hopefully this has all changed but we will just have to wait and see, only time will tell and very shortly imo.

Well, that's a right back signed for free.
Spend the whole 1-3m on a striker please nige

Take off the little bit for the lad from Blackpool and you might be right. £750k for O'Grady,£100k signing on fee plus £7500 wages will take the majority of it on a 3 year contract (figures are pure guess work by the way)

We did see a fair bit spent, especially on the wage bill.
If you wouldn't mind the impertinence of it I'd correct your post to
" Yes,another one of those fine episodes where we sell for quite alot of money and then some goon spunks it up the wall to little overall effect".

Yes agree bob but i'm sure you get my drift.

I admire your positive outlook and apologize for trying to be a smart arse haha
Well played sir

It's not really a "positive outlook", it's just the situation as I believe it to be.

I was calling for Maguire to be given a chance with the first team squad long before he came through, he was (literally) head and shoulders above others in his age group for a while... But that doesn't mean I'm going to panic or mudsling because a couple of clubs go to the press with stories of offers*/interest and/or the player himself may get his head turned.

* - funnily enough, I reckon one of them also has previous in using the press to make himself and his dealings with us look better :)

I'm more than happy that Nigel Clough will have the ultimate decision on what happens with Harry. The second that changes or that we don't hold out for a valuation that is beneficial to the club, I'll be as negative as anyone else.

For the record, for £2.5/3mil (which is re-invested), then I'd let him go if he wants to go.

Brayford likes Clough and now Sheffield United, Clough will always be interested in bringing Brayford to any club he's manager of... I'd love for us to announce his signing tomorrow, but it's not going to happen like that.

The best we can hope for in my opinion is that towards the end of pre-season or even a short time into the season, he doesn't look like featuring extensively for Cardiff and they allow us to take him back on loan or strike a deal. At that point, we've got to hope that no-one with more muscle can convince the player it's the right move at that time. It's not over yet, but we shouldn't be holding our breath, nor be particularly angry is circumstances dictate it won't happen - At least in this example we have a plan B.

As for Coady, similar to the above, if Clough still wants him with the number of bodies he has in his position... What is the rush if the deal isn't right? He's not been snapped up by anyone else yet. Either wait and loan him or be in a stronger position when nobody has offered the money rumoured to be wanted for him.

Hull expected to come back in with a 2m plus add ons offer (you know the usual extra 200k when Hull win the prem and 200k when he captains England in a world cup winning side). I think we may accept this, can not risk him signing for nothing in 12 months and not giving 100% this season.

£2m for one season is a lot of money, however us not getting promoted would cost more than that.

I hope we hold out for £3m, I think most of us have accepted he's going to leave in the very near future, just a matter of who to, and how much. For the first time in my lifetime I do feel like United, being managed by NC & MB will actually get a good price to the benefit of the club rather than giving a player away

HM can't leave for nothing next season; we'd be due compensation as he's under 24. The compensation level varies but the tribunal looks at first team appearances (200+ if he stays), length of service (9+ years?), international recognition (England U21), awards (L1 team of the year x3, SUFC player of the season x3?) and other factors when deciding. If Tom Ince's fee is being set at £7m then Maguire's will be around the £2-£3m mark and that is why we're playing hardball at the moment.

By contrast, Harrison McGahey's tribunal fee will be considerably lower: 5 FT apps, 3 years at Blackpool, zero international appearances, no awards. We'll end up paying Blackpool around £125k.

I think you're being generous. Especially if you also factor in that he was initially at the Preston academy, so they can't claim for his initial development as we can with Maguire. £75k-£100k if you ask me!

Good post Balham, the only thing i'd qualm about is,say we do get 2 to 3 million in a tribunal, why the f*** aren't we asking for 4 million plus then in this transfer window.

Here are the official rules from the Football League website:-

"In setting this compensation fee, the PFCC (Professional Football Compensation Commitee) took into account the costs of training and development, the player's age and playing record, the length of time he was registered with his former club, the terms offered by both clubs, the status of the two clubs, previous committee decisions and the interest shown by other clubs in acquiring the registration of the player".

I don't think that they take awards such as "SUFC player of the season" into account. But he should still rate very highly in all respects.

Bruce is complaining the fact that teams have to pay a premium for British talent ,you can get a player from overseas for half the price so he says.
Then pay the premium Bruce, Hull bummed us out of Quinn and the FA Cup Final appearance now he comes begging for another cut price favor.
If it is Hull jack up the price and a hefty sell on clause and Bruce can throw in a so called half price overseas player as well.

Who says we haven't though. 4m might be the price for all we know.

Although his transfer fee was undisclosed, the Mail has learned Quinn will cost the Tigers no more than £100,000. A £2,000 sum is applicable every time the midfielder plays and that is capped at 50 City appearances.

Quinn has already made a mockery of his low market value and Bruce continues to be astounded by the midfielder’s form.

“I’m not sure what we’ve paid for him and it’s not up to me to say, but I believe we’ve got a real bargain,” he explained.

“He’s been a breath of fresh air. He goes out and plays and gets on with it, he’s been a terrific signing.

“People have looked and looked and looked at him and thought ‘Is he a bit too small or what’s his best position?’

“For me he was Sheffield United’s best player for two or three years and that’s saying something because they’re a big club.

“To get Sheffield United’s best player for the money we did was a great piece of business.”

Another bid rejected. We ain't a pushover anymore nobhead. Stump up the cash or get to f**k.

Nigel Clough tells me Maguire will happily stay at #SUFC if Hull or anyone else don't match clubs valuation. Interview to come later.

On Harry Maguire. Turned down new bid this week. Player not unhappy and hasn't told Clough he wants to leave. Not inevitable he moves. #SUFC

Let us not forget this **** walked out on us for fucking Huddersfield!

Good point sheffielder,i suppose i'm just going on what gets said,1.5 million bid has been turned down so its a big step upto 4 mill, who knows,a very good point well made.

Doesn't this make a pleasant change ? normally its first bid accepted begging clubs to take players off our hands for any amount of money offered. I still believe that HM is more than replaceable at 2m though.

Absolutely dp, he was always going to go but the good thing is that we dug our heels in and got the best deal for the club. It may not be 'game changing' yet but hopefully a sign that better financial times are round the corner.

Now, promotion..........
