Nothing to happen with this deal until next week now, I hear Maguire will be involved in our game at Burton tomorrow.

Sheffield United have rejected a third bid, believed to be in the region of £2m, from Hull City for their England Under 21 centre-half Harry Maguire.

Both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest have also been linked with the 21-year, who has already played 130 games for the Blades, but Sky Sports sources understand Hull head the list of potential suitors.

Maguire told Sky Sports News earlier this month: "Playing in the Premier League and Europe will be a dream for me at this stage of my career.

"I've played nearly 170 games, I'm just 21 and the Sheffield United fans know I've given my all in every game I've played."

Be nice to think Clough still thinks we can keep him, think it would be better for HM and the club for him to stay this season:

Jonathan Buchan ‏@jonathanbuchan 4m
Nigel Clough tells me #HCAFC have not come back in for Maguire since we spoke with him on weds. Also says he doesn't want them to. #SUFC

Clough also told me he was happy with how Maguire's effort today and in training over the past few days #SUFC

At some point Hull will realise they have to meet our valuation or no deal. Fat boy can whinge all he likes to the press. Come up with money or wait until May 2015. United will have done the compensation calculation for May 2015.

Think the Butler and Collins combination today's just shows how much we need to keep Maguire. So hope we keep him not only for us bit also for his career progression

No wonder players have no loyalty to clubs anymore ,looking at the way some fans have turned against Harry. He has been a great young player for us and will earn us a lot of money ,cant we just wish him good luck ?

I ( and I suspect many more ) don't have a problem with UTD selling Harry if a Premiership Club come in with an "eye watering" offer that's too good to resist and he wants to step up to the Premiership.

The "eye watering" offer hasn't materialised yet, other than to cry laughing at Wolves's offer !!!!

What I have a problem with is not extracting an "inappropriately large" fee from Clubs with Premiership money.

Fortunately, NC seems to be standing his ground so far, although I bet McCabes fingers are twitching to snatch at the paltry offers as we usually do .........

Stand firm Nigel :-)

Heard we've agreed an upfront fee of 1.7mill with a further 500k for Harry's first senior England Appearance and a further 500k if he plays 25 games with Hull.

Not a chance ....... the cut price sales have finished under NC !!!!!

Depends who we want to bring in, say we could have got COG and 2.5M would have funded his wages then 2.5M is a good deal but I suspect our striker target involves a fee hence us hanging out for the most we can get.

This is a real possibilty within the next 2-3 years?

If he does go to Hull & has a good season. He could then leave to a bigger club & then be in with a shout due to the lack of decnt centre backs coming through the ranks.

Can anyone come up with a list of English centre backs under 25 that have a shout of getting in the England team?

Apart from Stones, and the obvious ones at Man U im stuggling here.
Yes,I think Harry will be good enough for England in a year or two. Besides,I'm surprised Man Utd did not bid for him what with Rio & Vidic leaving, Maguire is a better player than the centre backs that they have got at the mo'.

In terms of Harry's progression I think that Hull is the wrong move for him period.
Firstly he won't be first choice and that will hinder him,
Secondly when you look at those that have gone up to the prem Leicester and QPR look better equipped than Hull and with the first year surprise element that Hull had last term. WBA have settled themselves down, Sunderland have sorted themselves out and have resources, so you would have to say that Burnley, Hull and Swansea would be the favorites to go down, of those three I would put my money on Swansea staying up.
So this is a big risk for Harry and he could end up in a Slew situation.
In terms of the effect to us we would lose more than three million in revenue if we have to stay another year in league 1. If we have got one goal in a game the defense can get you 2 or even 3 points, and even with the much sought after (by S24SU posters) striker many of his 20 a season goals maybe in one nillers.
So to me its the wrong move all round. I hope Harry stays.

I would throw Southampton in to the mix there to be relegated.

Have to say that I agree - I accept that the lad has ambitions, of course he does - but to move to a club that is treading water at best seems strange. They will most likely linger towards the bottom end of the table or go down. It would make more sense to join a top end Champ club with added momentum and a more apparent foundation to build from - Hull are hardly likely to be a footballing power any time soon and I see them being relegated next year.

I think it's a good move for him. At least he'll get a game there. They're in Europe too (well qualifying rounds). The money they got from the cup run coupled with TV rights prove that they are building stability at the club. Livermore is signing permanently and they just paid £7m for Ince, why should they go down?

Don't forget that there are only two relegation places up for grabs this season as Burnley are already relegated.

The best thing Hull could do is not qualify for the Europa League. If they go on any sort of run in that, it could damage their Premiership hopes. Playing Thursday/Sunday every week hurts even clubs like Everton & Tottenham so Hull will really struggle.

For Maguire though - premiership football, european football and he doesn't even have to move house. Why wouldn't he sign?

If he does sign for Dull, there's no guarantee he'll play in either the PL or the Europa League. He'll probably be third (at best) or fourth (probably) choice CB.

He could sit on the bench counting his cash all season. Assuming he makes the bench.

They play a 5-3-2/3-5-2 usually. Might change that for the new season, but if not fourth choice is basically 1st back up so not too bad.

If Bruce sees Maguire as one of his first choice centre backs, the deal would have been done and dusted ages should, even at £4 million. A quality 21 year old English centre half is a very rare commodity, the fact that Hull seem to be penny pinching and are reluctant to meet Utds valuation suggests to me that he'd be a bench warmer at best?

Brilliant news. Good chance we can keep hold of him at least until January now. It seem to me it's his agent that has been pushing this.
