Early days but the Cannon signing baffles me.

I’ve not been too impressed and Campbell does offer more at the moment ….BUT … he set up the winner at Derby, took the ball from Gus and got it out to Brewster on Saturday and knicked the ball and sent Gus away for the goal last night ….. no goals yes but can’t say he hasn’t contributed.?

He's done bits and bobs but does feel like an unneccesary signing with Brewster starting to play well before he arrived, Campbell available almost immediately after and Moore not out for long, not sure we really needed him once BBD was signed up.

Isn't he our highest scoring player this season?

Tom Cannon is the same age (same school year) as Femi Seriki and Andre Brooks.

I know we’ve bought him as a £10 million player, but it’s incredibly early days still and even if he has been poor, to write him off so early into his career both with us and generally (he’s 22!) is bizarre.

IMO a lot of Blades wrote Billy off after his first spell under Robbo when clearly he didn’t fit the system, probably had him down as someone who would do well in L1 and L2 but no better

I’m not saying Cannon will be another Billy

For what it’s worth personally I don’t think the current way we are set up will have success in prem if we go up and I’m not convinced it’s the way we continue if we don’t go up

So I think at some point in the future we will start seeing us play some system where Cannon is heavily involved, will he go on to be ok or not, I have no idea

He needs to get used to the way we play.

We need to get used to the way he plays.

Settling in. Sometimes it takes time. It's not his fault he's been signed mid season.

Got to admit it's tiring seeing people get on his back already. It's not the recipe for success. We're already terrified he'll be a bust, I get it.

But come on, let's give the guy a real chance to bed in, and for our playmakers to get used to him too.

Coutts, Sharp etc amongst other recent legends who started poorly and took a while to get there.

He just needs time and patience. It’s a bit tiresome this constant need for a scapegoat.

You would have thought that a few might have learnt from the 'McAtee -sebd him back' thread early in the 22/23 season.

Apparently not, and it's never too early to write off a young player.

I think and hope he'll do OK, but sticking him up front on his own for a team that doesn't produce many chances must be soul destroying for the lad.
Also further proof that Wilder does not have a scooby as to how to get the best out of players.
Would any supporter of SUFC have played a loan striker against Plymouth, let alone a lone striker called Cannon who has produced Bil Nil since he has been signed as he may as well be on a desert island as Wilder plays him with no support.
No fault of the player, it’s the bloody manager who does not have a scooby, and then makes things worse by continuing to play the guy even though he is in the wrong position, with the wrong support and is obviously lacking in confidence .
But as long as Wilder convinces himself he is right at the expense of the team and results he is ok.

I know a mate of his who told him he had got it wrong, not spoken to him since ( not Plymouth related may I say ) but Wilder is unfortunately for him, his club and his team too arrogant.

I could very much go with the Cannon signing if I thought Chris wanted to change things round and play with orthodox wingers from time to time…But sadly that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Chances are he won't score a goal for rest of season - not the most optimal outcome and if that happens I'd suggest any negative comments on cannon and wilder signing him are justified.

Obviously I'd much prefer he scores a hattrick in the play off final.

Negative comments on the player won’t be justified. He’s proved he can score goals in this league for a poor team. Negative comments on the manager for the way he’s been used in the “system” we play are already fully justified. Let’s see how he does under a new manager before we write the kid off, it took Billy Sharp multiple managers before he started to look anything like the real deal for us.
