Cannon better than Brewster

From the times I've seen him live, I have to agree.

Seems to have zero redeeming features as a striker, other than having a decent shot on him. He's useless and actively hinders the team - at least Brewster affected games

Says it all about Cannon, really. Does nothing better than the average Championship forward - but many things worse.

Far far better from him recently. Has actually started to feel like a useful squad member rather than playing with a man down when he's on.

Would still like more from him though. He's clumsy in his play (see his very brief attempt at keeping it in the corner) and far too weak when he comes up against another player. He often makes a good darting run but can't impose himself and claim the space if it's contested. He did well for the goal but I think got a little fortunate with how things fell after putting pressure on.

We all know he can’t play as a lone striker, but thought he worked his socks off and did really well for the second goal. Yeah, there’s lots he could improve on, but think him and Bamford up top for the rest of the season is our best option.

Looking much better. Makes purposeful runs, competing physically and giving us a presence up top.

Actually looks an asset who lets not forget is still only 23, an asset in the most crucial position on the pitch no less.
We've needed him last 2 games and fair play he's delivered

He cost less, I guess we may him less, he is fit and available and i suspect by the end of the year, he might have scraped as many goals in 2 seasons as Brewster did in 5. Also suspect we will find it easier to offload him for an actual fee.

I stuck this on another thread but suppose this is where I should have given my opinion so I’ll copy it onto here..

Gobsmacked with how many thought Cannon was good. He was really poor, poor technique and a poor football brain which is why his runs are not very good and often results with him caught offside. He closes down enthusiastically now which is why I assume folk are saying he had a good game for? We could get any fit footballer to close down enthusiastically, even a lower league player. He did one thing of note in the whole game after the defender ballsed it up and literally fell over and left him totally free with the ball, he then passed it 10 yards to brooks. Pretty sure I could still do that.

Just don’t see it whatsoever with this lad, has no attribute to his game that I can be positive about.

My issue is his total inability to anticipate openings, passes or crosses. He always seems to be on his heels. Offside has been mentioned but not because he makes acute angled runs, he just doesn’t pay attention. Finally, he has a habit of standing behind his marker when crosses are about to happen. Fine if he’s blind siding them and nipping in front but he’s not, he can’t be found with a pass and any ball that comes in his direction is cut out by the defender who will get there first.
I wasn’t at the game so accept that those who were might have seen something positive but on tv he looked poor.

Some of our fans love a scapegoat. Sometimes it's deserved (Hammond, Lundstram) sometimes it isn't (Robinson). We have no scapegoat at the moment and it seems that some people are desperate to make it Cannon. The problem is he's playing well, but that doesn't stop some having a go.

CW/AK know more about this squad than any of us and they obviously rate him.

Made some excellent runs as usual. Caught offside a few times because the ball didn't arrive quickly enough to put him clean through on goal. He's the last one to blame for that. He also made an excellent near post run at the Lane end and was Jonny on the spot for a tap in if an easy pass was played. Second half he got a couple of decent balls and his shots were blocked. Should've been hooked at about 65 as he was shattered. Obviously better in a two but he's doing ok.

A much bigger problem last night was the struggle to play from our third into the middle third. Once we worked that out (fair play to Oxford for their tactics) the result was never in doubt. Cannon obviously adds to that issue as it's more difficult to go longer bypassing that press with a small guy up top.

The comments in the Shoutbox last night regarding Ogbene (before he scored) were grim. With Cannon improving it seems Ogbene might be next in line.

Or one of the new lads if they don't make an instant impact. Burrows took some serious flak earlier in the season too.
