United beat Newcastle 2-1 with Willie Carlin scoring on his debut, another who made his debut as sub was Geoff Salmons. Gil Reece got the winner.
Mick Jones had been sold the day before, and the pre-match build up was marked by United fans chanting 'Send Dick Wragg to Vietnam'

28 years ago today 1985, and a 5-1 hammering of neighbours, Rotherham in the 2nd leg, 1st Rd of the Milk Cup (League Cup).
Colin Morris, and a couple each from Peter Withe and Joe Bolton.
After football, Bolton went trucking. Whilst Withe went coaching, ultimately getting fired from every job for being ugly.

United edge a seven goal thriller 4-3 on the pudding better known as Field Mill.

'And the reserves programme from that day too. A 1-1 draw at West Brom. '

United win 5-1 at Pompey on a wednesday night , and so repeated the result they had achieved the previous season. Woody helped himself to a hat-trick, and Gil Reece and Billy Dearden with the others.

Blades top of the League and unbeaten.
Step forward that man Best.
The old man always said that the atmosphere that day was the best he'd witnessed at any game in watching United since 48'. It was mum's birthday, I don't know how he managed it
Thousands were locked out

Is that not the worst illustration in the long history of match-day programmes? What were they thinking?30 years ago today.......October 1st 1983.
A 2-1 win courtesy of Keith Edwards and a Colin Morris penalty.
The programme was fully reproduced in the Millwall 13/10/11 programme.

We're in York today, and Dick Turpin rode again as I paid 25p for what is probably the worst programme in history. A fold out, chinese menu style programme full of adverts.
United trailed 3-2 in the second half, goal by Bob Hatton and a Kenworthy penalty, but Trusson powered in two headers late on to give United the points with a 4-3 victory.
Team: Waugh, Ryan, Kenworthy, Richardson, MacPhail, McHale, Neville, Trusson, Edwards, Hatton, Charles. Sub: Garner

You're right Daz but you're also wrong.
I was writing this quickly, you are correct it wasn't McHale, it was McAlle
You've got me there.
Here's a question. McAlle scored one goal for United. What is strange about that goal?
Was expecting our 3-2 win over Wendy in 1970! I went to the York game too. Cooperman ran on the pitch to congratulate Bob Hatton on his goal!32 years ago today.....October 3rd 1981
