christ soon as this article comes out people on here start assuming he will be sold we pulled the plug on the chesterfield loan for him days ago and wilder said he wanted to have a look at brooks in pre season i understand that we've had a habit of selling young players in the past and last season whose to say brooks would actually want to leave or that he would now be motivated by big money just because of his international experience he has a choice whether he moves on or not personally i hope he stays and i reckon he will

All plausible, but we all know that once a big club comes calling, this club can't get them out the door quick enough

It's time to make a stand

Do I think we will? Absolutely not

I will bet 1 earth pound to as may of your planet zargs he's gone by the end of July.
Fans are all still on a high from last season, so none of them will get too pissed off with the news if he goes.

So prime time to sell off all of our youngsters isn't it really.

Yep! The reason given about wanting to take a closer look at him was nonsense. We've had a microscopic look at him and seen £ signs.

It's the classic "good day to bury bad news" old chestnut . Football club owner manual #56743

like i said the decision is up to brooks now either stay with us and have a chance to play first team football if he works hard enough or move to everton to play in the reserves with less of a chance to play in their first team you can't fore a player to move to another club if he doesn't want to go there ramsdale turned down everton for Bournemouth in january remember and we got a smaller fee because he probably fekt he would have a better chance at Bournemouth

You called this and got some grief for it. You may be right,I hope you aren't,but fear you are.

OK. So we punt Brooks at Everton and he chats to his pal DCL.
On what grounds is Brooks going to beg to stay here on buttons rather than earn squillions by the age or 23 and get first team football at Goodison to boot. DCL gets plenty.
Make it 10 earth pounds mate.

if that was the case why was wilder keen on talking about the loan offer we received for long at the first chance he got but doesn't mention interest in brooks from other clubs when he was talking about him the other day

We've been looking at him for years. Watching him grow and seeing him develop. If we still need to have a look at him, I suggest our academy staff and numerous others at the club need to get to Specsavers

how do we know he wants more money instead of regular football besides dcl only got into that team because they had quite a few injured players after the transfer windows had shut

EDIT he also got released by man city before he came to us so am guessing he knows how easy it is to be forgotten about when your in a premier league teams academy

Looks like he is going I just don't get where all this investment money is? When we get to championship it's available? Says McCabe.
We haven't spent a penny! Harry's money move has compensated into everything we have done so far
Having to sell brooks is s kick in the teeth!
Wait for the headline... when a player shows desire to leave blah blah blah blah

Kevin has said it will be available in the January transfer window if we need to push on or consolidate.

Only trouble is when January comes they will say Clubs inflate prices because they know your desperate. So we will wait until July.

And the circle starts again.

Just accept we are skint and every player has a Low price tag, then you won't be too disappointed.

I think you're somewhat naive. I don't mean that patronisingly. DCL is a first team regular. Just won a World Cup scoring the winner. Brooks can and actually has kind of emulated that. Would you turn down about 20k a week to play in the Championship when you are going to get first team opportunities in the Premiership.
Of course you aren't.

I wish David Unsworth would piss off! Not content with just missing a penalty for us against Blackburn and leaving to a rival (fair enough on that) and then scoring the penalty and sliding on his knees celebrating; he's now regularly recommending our younger better players, no doubt aided by the fact he used to work here and knows some of them. I know he's doing his job, but just wish he could do it somewhere else!

More seriously, I wasn't upset when DCL left as it was a decent deal for us. But Brooks looks a real find and we should be doing everything to keep him. The article from the Telegraph is very misleading. As if we've recalled Brooks to then immediately sell him. I don't believe that for a minute to be honest, no matter how cynical some are on here of our board and selling assets.

You have no idea how much I don't want to drag this back up in a few weeks mate.

it will be up to him i suspect wilder will sit down with him and see what brooks wants to do first obviously he will try and get brooks to stay but as he said multiple times since he joined the club that he only wants players here who are loyal to this club and want to be here i hope brooks will stay here and would be disappointed if he leaves

i see your point about dcl and what he has done in the last few weeks and about how brooks was one of the stars of the toulon cup but what about ramsdale he looks a good young keeper but i cant recall him featuring for Bournemouths u23's a lot since he joined them just because brooks performed well in that tournament does not guarantee him first team football at everton wasn't that tom davies who plays for everton in that world cup winning england squad with dcl as well

When we win the Premiership by 5 clear points in 3 years time, I wonder who the big clubs will be that 'come a calling' to raid our academy that summer?

I bet it's one of those greasy Spanish bastards or pizza munching Italian chuffs. Either way, you can bet they'll still be a big club come calling.

If Brookes goes I would want it to be a huge fee (obviously) - no point having back on loan if we weren't going to use him anyway so a sale and decent price for him. Not had a first team appearance so can't see it being over £2m (would have been £1m last year in L1)

If it must be to Everton then Brookes - OUT and Jags - IN (season long loan to offset his salary)

Personally would like to see him in our first team and still loan Jags in with Everton paying most of his wages :D:D:D

Of course this might all be bullshit but convenient that this news broke after Kev's interview today and not before so the question wasn't asked?

If this does happen I could see him going out on the same day that a few would be coming in to ward off any flak

Either way, there is absolutely no point in whinging about it as fans don't get a say and I doubt anyone is going to rip their season ticket up will they?

If you are not in the top 3 richest clubs then all of players are at risk of moving away no matter how well you are doing or what division you are in. Nobody can offer the wages that Man U, Chelsea or Man City can offer.

If they want to then any other Prem side can and will take any player from the Championship downwards - money talks!

Even if we sold him for a decent fee I don't see where Wilder would reinvest it even if he was allowed to. We seem close to signing EEL, Leonard and Holmes. Wilder will want them in soon - next 2 weeks. He won't change his plans with those 3 on the assumption we'll be getting more money to spend - they're too far down the line, certainly the latter 2. After them there aren't many more signings to make - only a backup GK and a CB are highly likely. And I don't see Wilder spending £3m on one player with the wages to go with it when all the other signings were considerably cheaper. There will be room in the budget as it is for us to spend one or two decent fees if we want to. There certainly should be if we get the Walker sell on fee.

It's about time we held onto one of these young players instead of taking the first chance to cash in. About time we stopped being 'little Sheffield United'. I believe Brooks is contracted until 2020, so there's no excuse.

You never know, given that there's plenty of PL interest in Brooks, given that he was the best player at an international tournament, he might even be good enough to get in our team ahead of footballing greats like Mark Duffy, Samir Carruthers and Norman Nobody (our current right winger). And if he gets in our team, guess what....... his value rockets. And if he doesn't get in our team....... nothing changes. We can still get the fee we'd get now.

Think that's a pretty fair call.

saw something on bbc sport a few months ago that man city weren't allowed to sign younger youth players from other academies (18 and under) wonder if they will start signing older youth players cos of this

I think that ought to be a mandatory rule for Prem sides if it's true. Might give the lower divisions a fighting chance. Massive teams like those 3 don't need to mop young players up when they can go out and buy the very best with little risk.

I'm starting to lose the desire to attend youth team games too. Seems pointless investing so much into it, and getting our hopes up for what they'll do in the first team, when they don't even play ten games.

That's one of the reasons I stopped going more often years ago. Only go to some of the bigger games now.

Everton appear to be collecting young players at the moment.....they are signing 18 year old Josh Bowler from QPR....interestingly, QPR turned down their initial bid rising to £3m and Everton have since made an improved offer.

Although highly rated like Brooks, Bowler hasn't been capped by England let alone scored in a major final and been named player of the tournament. He has made 1 senior appearance.

On that logic if we accept anything less than £5m plus add-ons for Brooks it will be an utter disgrace.

Jamie Hoyland was recently on Alan Biggs show, talking about DCL, and Biggs brought up Brooks, doing an agents job.

Everton don`t produce many of their own.

Hoyland is chief scout, his job goes like this.

Wait for International squads announced
See who is in outside the Premiership.
Watch them once.
Buy them.
Eat pie.

They also signed Qpr kid Josh Bowler yesterday, its so much easier than developing your own.

I'm not sure why there is so much hysteria.

I have no problem with us selling him, providing we get the right fee. Selling DCL (admittedly for less that he's worth) and Adams last year allowed us to improve the squad and ultimately was a factor in our success. If any fee gained from selling Brooks can be converted to success on the pitch, I can live with it.

I'm not saying I don't want to see home-grown players: I'd love Brooks to stay and become a 1st team regular, but I won't be suicidal if he leaves.

I'm not sure why there is so much hysteria.

Come on now. Have a look round. Have a think where you are.

Those presently having tantrums will be asked to form a deputation to visit Shirecliffe. There they will explain to this lad that he can't go to the Premiership where he will be paid (at a guess) around twenty times his current income. They will offer to indemnify him, out of their own pockets, for any career ending injury or other loss of opportunity to make that kind of dosh if he agrees not to go. They will then give him a lollipop and pat him on the head, before he toddles off to discuss the matter with his greedy agent, who sits waiting in a Lamborghini, lighting his cigar with a £10 note.

In the unlikely event that they have failed to remove the stars and dollar signs from the kid's eyes, they will then have a meeting with our chairman and manager where they will set out a case for preventing a kid, who has so far made no impression in grown-up football, from joining Everton Under 21s by making him far and away the highest paid player in our club with a guaranteed first-team place.

They will persuade Tufty, who sees the lad infinitely more often than they, that playing for England Babies B team (just like Reed and Long) is a sure fire guarantee of success in big boy football, despite the overwhelming evidence of history to the contrary. Tufty, who by sheer coincidence is having a group chat with former Man Utd legend Raymond Storey, Real Madrid's marquee signing Jordan Slew and Italian international Diego de Juve, will be told by our Bladey Boyband groupies that he must givimarun ahead of players that the manager would prefer to play. Tufty, of course, agrees immediately.

Then it's off to meet the captain and players. They will readily understand why young David from the youth team is now earning twice as much as any of them...

All is well.
