Congrats to the McCabe family

Weir complained about the sale of McDonald.

Many United managers have complained about the money from sales not being given to them to invest. Spackman, Warnock, Bruce, Bassett and Weir have all said this. Deane was sold both times over the protest of the manager.

And the bigger point is the one made by Worksop II - what are they going to do in that situation? They have to get on with the job.

Do you really think Danny Wilson was on board with selling Nick Blackman and replacing him with the loan signing of Jon Forte?
MacDonald wanted to go.

How far back in history do you want to go.

As far as I am concerned the last two players to be sold at the instigation of the chairman were Deane and Fjortoft.

Since then the choice has either been the players, or the managers.

Weir said he was aware of the situation and that he realised the club could do little about it.

What I will say is that I am firmly in the camp that says "if a player wants to go, then get him out asap"

It's a team game,

I think you will find that most managers share that view, and Wilder certainly does.

That strategy has, I agree, worked very well this season.

It was a major reason for our failures between 2008 and 2016

I'm not a McCabe defender but can we just put this shit to one side for atleast a day or two?

I'm off to get rat arsed again, chuck some mustard and rip some air con units of the ceilings. Shit, we're at home! :)

Shame he'd built his entire game plan around McDonald and had no plan B.

That's what he said. Can't remember him openly complaining. Funnily enough McDonald was spouting good things about his new role while talking to Wolves. He wanted to go, and basically that was that. So we're left with the "we should have refused to sell him argument" which Wilder doesn't seem to agree with.

Funny game football.

As I said, Wilder has managed to work around such sales. Good for him.

Adkins, Clough, Wilson, Weir, Adams and Blackwell could not. But I suppose that's all their fault and it's always the right move to sell.

How much blame would you apportion to them - and Robson, Speed, who you missed out - as opposed to McCabe. He appointed them making a mistake as it turned out and that's his legacy. Them being poor is down the their weaknesses but let's overlook that in the race to prevent anything good being said about McCabe.

As I originally replied, Weir knew what the crack was with KMc was, if he was stupid enough to put all his eggs in one basket it's not hard to see why he failed miserably and quickly.

Agreed .... though why someone would choose a manager so mind numbingly stupid ...

and piss weak is beyond me ... unless it suited them

As you say, Football is a funny game

Yep.

Kev - Let's appoint a really shit manager and lose another five or six million by being crap on the pitch.,

Knowledgable fan - come on, we know it suits you to stay in this division, you make money keeping us down etc etc

Happy clapper - Here we go again....

Hey Blades. I have flounced but as my last rhetorical post 'plus 2' I have to say where were you all 12 months ago?

84 likes for the O.P. Where were you 12 months ago?

I could have done with just half a dozen of you blokes supporting my pro-McCabe stance a year ago. WHF needed you all there too.

Where were you all? There were loads of the 'slashers', easy then for them.

At least Pommpey is still saying the same things, all the others have disappeared.

The nature of the forum is complicated. I must say I have more respect for Pommpey over this than the 84 above!!!!
It's only my opinion but ..you say what you want when you want ... it's a freedom of speech thing .
I wish I had posted in support of your comments but the absolute anhilation of each other on here has pissed me off this season
No less of a blade ... still got ST "s ... go to a few away games etc etc but the reason for the OP was I was quite surprised that as far as I could see there wasn't a message in support of the board.

As I understand it McDonald only agreed to join us in the first place if we put a minimum release clause in his contract, which Wolves then met so we were legally obliged to sell him.

Weir probably was aware of that possibility so it was grossly incompetent for him to base the entire team strategy on one player.

Many on this forum backed McCabe , don't let it sound like it was a one mans crusade who has fixation on the number of likes certain people get .

Hindsight is a wonderful thing , self gratification something else .

At the end of the day in the overall scheme of things does it really matter . It matters not a jot .

The main thing is we are all together , however on a forum it's doesn't mean we have to all agree , or take our bat and ball home.

I've got good things to say about McCabe this season:

- the budget was not cut to the bone after the Adkins debacle
- there was money to bring in players (Moore and Ebanks Landell, most notably) after it became clear the initial blend was not right
- no one was sold in January
- Wilder was a good appointment

We are now back where we started with McCabe, in better shape than we were when we left this division. Hopefully he will ultimately leave us in a higher division than when he found us.
