Robson put together a very good squad, just didn't have a clue how to manage them !

I beg to differ. Aside from my (entirely subjective) low opinion of Robson's signings, I think it's fair to say that a squad which bankrupts a club if it doesn't get promoted inside two years is absolutely not a very good squad.

The lack of future planning that reached its zenith with Robson is why we're the biggest failures in football right now.

Just goes to show the depths we have sunk to when this is the best we can get, the only reason so many are in favour of him getting the job is ..........
a/ the utter shite we have been linked to
b/ the utter shite that have told us to do one
c/ the long drawn out recruitment process has worn everyone down until they are happy to accept any shite who is not a former United player.

Puckin hell he is Scotch so he must be a good manager in the making, just like SAF ........................ fookin laughable just like the rest of the club and now the disease is spreading to the fans .................. it makes you want to weep.

So you're not too impressed then?

Right back at Yeovil was a free.

They are out there.

Just one slight problem Grumps, first off we have to get rid of players earning more than £2.5k pw like Doyle, Porter, McMahon, Collins etc ............................. yeah that's right we are stuck with the useless donkeys.

Must admit,MB,i've searched the internet and can't find a list of wages anywhere. What are the other players on?

If we get replacements in on frees and leave the old men in the reserve's with no positive outlook they'll soon piss off.

Interesting article. So apparently he's only been coaching 12 months, only had his license 6 months and he's not even been the manager of Everton U21's only the assistant to Alan Stubbs!

Why not just appoint Stubbs rather than his assistant if we're dead set on letting a novice learn the ropes with us?

Weir's never played in the lower English leagues, let alone coached or managed in them. So of course that makes him the ideal person to apply his vast knowledge of the Third Division and pluck those gems from other clubs as Winter said we would be doing.

Did we even try to get a semi-proven manager like Davis, Wilder or Tisdale before deciding to set up a management training camp instead?

If only we had had Cloughie when he started his managerial career, He started down in the football basement, had little or no money to spend and by skill, hard work and effort he progressed. Now, I haven't been on the single malt but,it would be good if we could , by luck or judgement unearth another gem. Rather a new broom than a clapped out old brush.

Don't be a pillock Bartman, it is fairly common knowledge the players mentioned are on more than £2.5k pw and you know that very well as does anyone who takes the slightest interest in Sheffield Utd.

IF this is the appointment as a seasoned knocker of McCabe and his cronies I will be as happy as I could be. This would be exactly the appointment to galvanise us and take us forward. Way above my own level of expectation.

It then also shows that the process the club has gone through has been worth it so that Morgan, Warnock et al won't be in charge.

Has there been any confirmation yet?
Until there is,i wouldnt get excited-its the blades way you know!
We expect to be let down.

I know Clough started in the basement and worked his way up.
So did Fergie and most of the other top managers.
So did our most successful managers Bassett and Warnock.
So did Davis, Wilder and Tisdale and that's the type of manager I wanted.
We are not Hartlepools or Nantwich. We are not the basement.

Just announced Weir new manager. Be announced in next 48 hrs. Thank god that's over with! Now we can move forward (hopefully!)

I agree that we aren't the basement, but we are so financially crippled that compensation to anyone meant a reduction in the playing budget. So by default we become a 'basement starter job.'

If we're going down the untested route, we couldn't do much better IMO. Similar to Speed, he is respected within the game and has decent coaching reports as btl's link above. His contacts at Everton and Moyes at Man U could also be an asset for getting one or two decent loanees.

Given what he's got to work with and the candidates we've been looking at, this would be a decent appointment.

So you have an ounce of annoyance that the announcement of the anointing......the vessel with the pestle.....

Scenes from the last few weeks at Bramall Castle.

Where was it announced? Who announced it? and where will it be announced in 48hrs?

I'm told David Weir WILL be new manager of Sheffield United. Just a matter of a few loose ends to be tied up. Anno expected in net 48 hrs

The oracle that is Radio Sheffield who said it wont be Page...then it could be...then it wont be Morgan...then it could be....then it was a 2 horse race...then a 3 horse race....an announcement made (a week ago)....then they were waiting.

Suppose they may get one right!

I will wait until it is confirmed as Walker has not come out of this whole process with any real credit. He has been guessing most of the time like the rest of us. Does show our relationship with Radio Sheffield is not the best as it has been alleged we fell out with them big time over the way they reported Evans saga etc and the club tells them zip by all accounts. With James Shield's 3 day old exclusives it means many posters on here and other boards often give more reliable updates.

Remember when you used to buy the star for SUFC news or tune into Sports bulletins on Radio Sheff. Now with the internet they offer little really and seem to be in no better position than the man in the street. At least before Pritchett and Bob Jackson had some integrity and thus the club would tell them stuff and let them reveal certain stories.

I gather that Weir's was a late application (among others), hence the confusion over Page and Morgan.

Pritchett was too close to club. Seemed to me that he'd pretty much print what he was told.

As for Bob Jackson, I have no memory other than he'd play some military music when we needed a late goal, and it was that which got us promotion. :)

On a side note, i think we should campaign to get the military march music back, always seemed to work!

Gamble appointment and a cheap one.

Maybes. Suppose what I meant and I wasn't Pritchett's biggest fan (far superior to Shield as a written journalist though - although admitted he got Deane and Agana mixed up?!) and maybe he was too close to Brealey etc but it did mean you would find some stuff out that he was told first (probably due to close affiliation). Granted it was days before internet etc. Liked Bob Jackson though. He was/is a big Blade. Wasn't patronising, smug or trying to be argue with callers just for the sake of it. Realised he was there to field calls, ask as a conduit and merely interject at times if caller got carried away etc. Current presenters on rAdio Sheffield are disrespectful to many and don't realise without the callers/listeners they don't have a show).

The only problem we have now is, if he does well and another club come in for him....

They're all gamble appointments. And in case you missed it, we're skint, so it was never going to be an expensive appointment.
