If this happens it will be amazing if only for the fact that its goone completely under the radar! Just about every one of us has moaned at some point during the appointment process about the demise of SUFC. Could just surprise us all!

If it's true that he was interviewed for the Everton job, he can't be a d option if we do get him in. I feel a lot more positive about this one than any of the others since Robinson. Daren't hold my breath though....

If the bookies would take it, and I had one, I'd be putting my mortgage on this one! :)

I'm delighted. I like everything I hear about this guy. He was a serious runner for the Everton job if Martinez dropped out. He's captained both Rangers and Everton. As a player he was a dedicated pro who played into his 40s. I get the impression he will think a little deeper than 'Upanatem'.

He is in a different league to the Bladey Bladey Blades on the short list. An outstanding prospect, in my view. I'll even overlook his slight Bladeyness. DW had him here on a non-contract basis, did he not?

Let this one be true.

That's because no-one ever considered him, and he's no track record for armchair pundits to form half-arsed judgements about. :)

If he's learned from Moyes he'll do for me. Decent football with pragmatism, incredibly demanding and a bit fierce.

Hang on. All my judgements are fully-arsed I'll have you know!

I said the other day that David Weir would be the one I would opt for considering all of the main candidates are unproven. I think he has all the qualities to be a good manager and was a good pro as a player. No guarantees of course but its an interesting appointment and gives me a little bit of optimism.

Will play fairly direct football.

:D

If his style will be comparable to Moyes' teams in the lower leagues (PNE), I saw a lot of them and they had a high-tempo but passing method. Moyes' Everton side was often a bit functional but I'd never have described them as long-ball.

That said, if his style was learned from Alex McLeish then he can have my season ticket in the post tomorrow. :)

why happy? he not managed atall, the job needed a experience guy.
May be, maybe not. Many of the " experienced" managers who we may have been looking at, and others doing the rounds have failed, and failed again but, they still manage to talk themselves into another job.
I feel sorry for D.W. in a way. The season before last he had us playing the right way and in most other years, with the points gained we would have been promoted. So Danny is experienced. The question is, would you have him back to start afresh?

I've just had a thought.

Anybody remember when we were linked with Chris Wilder...

I said we could go from Wilson, to Wilder. Almost as if McCabe just picked the next guy in his little black book.

Now it's Weir?!? And not just that, David Weir! Do we have a load of "DW" tracksuits that Danny didn't use??

(Warnock is) Probably the only realistic appointment that would rid me of my current apathy about the club and get me back through the turnstiles.

I said this in the Warnock thread but I'd now like to add the Weir-Wolf to the list. Would be delighted IF it happened.

Let this one be true.

Interesting article. So apparently he's only been coaching 12 months, only had his license 6 months and he's not even been the manager of Everton U21's only the assistant to Alan Stubbs!

Why not just appoint Stubbs rather than his assistant if we're dead set on letting a novice learn the ropes with us?

Weir's never played in the lower English leagues, let alone coached or managed in them. So of course that makes him the ideal person to apply his vast knowledge of the Third Division and pluck those gems from other clubs as Winter said we would be doing.

Did we even try to get a semi-proven manager like Davis, Wilder or Tisdale before deciding to set up a management training camp instead?

I really think some people are unaware of how far we've fallen. Of course, all the names mentioned arouse resentment, but that's the pond we're fishing in now. When people slag off the latest no-mark who has appeared on Twitter (and remember, none of this has come from United), they invariably fail to come up with an alternative who is proven/affordable/available.

At just about every level in football, any manager is a gamble. If it works, it's a mixture of chemistry, tactics and luck. If it (almost inevitably) fails, they can always go on 'Late Kick Off.

Weir will do for me, purely based on the names mentioned who have one thing in common - an almost unbroken record of failure. If he's fierce, a disciplinarian and doesn't suffer fools gladly, that'll be half the battle at this level.

He pretty happy with this one, even if just to lose having an ex player as manager!

And when we did employ a manager with bags of lower league experience he failed to get us promoted from this league 2 seasons on the trot....

All the ones that were too big for him. I'm 6'3 and I have some small size macron gear, so I dread to think what Wilson had to wear, age 10-12?

Seriously though we could maybe get loans off Everton and Man Utd. Maybe one of em wouldn't be utter Rich Tea biscuits.

Come on board, get this Weir bloke signed up. He's coach at Everton, he's never played for us, he HAS to be a better gamble than the people we've been linked with in the last day or two.
I know he didn't play but wasn't he on our books two years ago? Or at least on trial?

Scots seem to make better managers than they were players. Problem with this one is Weir was a fantastic player

I'm happy with David Weir and lets be honest would we rather have him or Wally downes/robert page ino my answer
