I'm interested as to why he left because at the time it didn't look good, but my guess was that it was just too good to turn down. What irks me more was that there was a minimum fee release clause because I would have felt in the circumstances of the Club paying half his wages for the time he couldn't play owed us a bit of loyalty, but I'll wait to hear what he says in the book, I don't plan to buy it mind, so relying on someone putting it on here, or an interview with under the cosh etc at some point!

Did you buy Booker's book?
Oh wait.. you wrote it. 😊😉

Paul Cannovile's autobiography is a cracking read. Highly recommended.
I’m going to take a look at that. Well known in these parts for a bonkers game v the Wendy. Chelsea we’re getting stuffed in a cup game but ended up 4-4 (I think) and won the replay. I’m interested to read how different the era was in terms of the racism he faced. Especially as the worst was from his own fans.

One thing I notice, you're a very upbeat and positive poster.
I feel Bob did a lot of moaning about money in his book. 🤣

I try to be positive mate, life's too short! I can't remember Bok talking about money much to be honest! I do remember the time he signed a new contract with us a and went back to see Derek Dooey just to say thanks! Dooley was gobsmacked apparently! Booker used to drive a D reg Sierra, not many would drive an equitant to that now!

Today's the day...

Pre-orders should be dropping through your door any day now, if they aren't already with you.

Believe Dr. Fox is planning a competition giveaway at some point too :)

Wednesday were winning 3-0. Cannoville came on and Chelsea went 4-3 up, mainly thanks to him, before Mel Sterland equalised with a pen. Chelsea won the replay 2-1 It was a league cup quarter final I think. The highlights are on YouTube I think.

Cannoville was Chelsea's first black player. He made his debut as a sub, and received vile abuse when he entered the field.

Competition incoming if you want to win yourself a copy :)

I was at the 4-4 game!

About Cannoville, a mate who is a Chelsea fan remembered meeting a so called Chelsea fan at a pub after a match in the 1980s. This so called fan asked my mate "What was the score, I left at half time after we were losing 1-0". My mate replied "Chelsea won 2-1!. This so called Chelsea fan then asked who scored. My mate then said "Cannoville scored both goals" This so called Chelsea fan said "Oh no, that means we lost 3-0" and then walked away.

Must be an F word on every page or there’s somert wrong!

Just watched that, decent watch, better than the other one on the net in my view. I'll watch the second part when it comes out, maybe that'll save me having to buy the book, although I wasn't intending to buy it to be honest! Don't buy many football autobiography's anyway.

£2.99 in Fraser McIntyre's Newsagent in Portree.

Sorry, that's Enda Kenny, Irish Taoiseach.

Which other one on the net do you mean?

Interesting Paddy puts our relegation more down to us not scoring our penalties. I am starting to agree with that to some degree.

Right, no other serialisation needed, here we go, page 49;

"A club legend Simon Tracey was recovering from a knee operation when I arrived at Bramall Lane and the other keeper was a Dutch lad called Wilko De Vogt, who struggled to concentrate in training because he talked about porn all the time".

Gold.

This article seems to cover why Paddy left, interesting stuff. Not heard of a club putting in a minimum fee release clause before, but maybe this is more common than I know, I always assumed this was for the players benefit not the clubs? Anyway, £750,000 or whatever it was, was far too low, so not sure what McCabe was thinking of when that went in.

A tad surprised Paddy's waited 10 years to give his side of the story, but seems genuine. Steve Simonsen worked out well too of course!? I bet Simonsen was on equal money to Paddy also as Simonsen was quite a well known keeper at the time.

If you take it as gospel, which I know is a big if, then what can I say? McCabe not knowing what he's doing - what a surprise.

I don't see why anyone wouldn't believe Paddy Kenny here. It's absolute classic McCabe ran United

If you look at this with a cynical perspective then it appears that McCabe wanted rid of Paddy, lets put a minimum fee which we know someone will pay, probably Warnock, and then we make £750,000 and get rid of Paddy who's a liability/let us down, but we make him look like the bad guy not us.

On the other hand, being more realistic, it may well be just that United wanted the money and though £750,000 was a fair price and likely to go quickly if and then we get the money and bring in someone much cheaper. Either way, it backfired and we lost out best goalkeeper we'd had for years for peanuts and ended up with Steve Simonsen who was past his best, probably on decent money and with no sell on value.
