He wasn't on my list of ideal targets. He was on my list of bottomless pit of money (but realistic) targets though.

With Iliman gone Akpom makes a lot of sense positionally.

He was fantastic in the Championship last season. Obviously the gamble is whether it was a one off and whether it'd work for us. Him and Traore could work as a front two though.
 

I would prefer Piroe. 3/4 years younger. But we never do well with forwards from Swansea 😂. It seems that they are holding out for £15m as well, which is a little bit more than what the rumoured fee for Akpom would be.

Who the better player is subjective, however, their best positions are less so. Piroe is more productive when playing deeper, usually off another striker whereas Akpom can lead the line better (although he too likes to drop deeper into space at times).

For that reason, I think Akpom is more needed and would be a better fit with the rest of the squad at this point in time, although I do like Piroe as a player.

I would say Akpom is definitely the better all round player, but Piroe is a good as and possibly better in the box and has shown himself to be a consistent goalscorer over two full seasons. That is a thoroughly inconclusive opinion ;-) But, I am not sure we will create enough to get the best out of Piroe.

Lens make offer for Boro striker Akpom​

Lens have made an offer for Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom.
One source claims the bid is worth £8m but Middlesbrough value Akpom at around £15m and won't sell until a replacement is lined up.
Akpom is into the final year of his contract and, as it stands, is unlikely to sign a new deal.
Sheffield United and one unnamed European club are also interested.
Akpom was the Championship's top scorer last season with 29 goals.
 
Sky have confirmed we're interested and that Boro won't sell til they get a replacement. Have also confirmed that Boro value him at 15mil. Assume that's that, and now we should move on because we shouldn't pay more than 8 IMO
