It's alright letting him go for some cash but we all know what McCabe is like. It won't get spent on team

For the millionth time - posted by me and others - it will go on wages and other costs needed to run a football club............simple economics really - a fact not really understood by numerous.

Presumably other clubs who keep their good players have no running costs? Or could they think on a basis of speculate to accumulate?

Simply what happens is if we turn down 2m plus for Che and tell him he's not going, he will want his current contract doubling. The huge thing we never learn is re-investment so if he is sold and we don't invest properly, I hope WIlder knows better than to try and pull one over our eyes. This will be his first test, not tonight.

I don't take an interest in other clubs - We've wasted fortunes on wages - SUFC is a business not a money tree.

Not happy at all that bucket loads has been wasted - it still needs to be funded.

Wilder should be having a look at the newcastle reserves to see who he can get..

ROlando Arrons - winger although probably a bit unrealistic

I don't want to see us spending 500k on Clarke to replace him or I will lose my shit.

We haven't slid down the leagues solely because we've sold players, although it obviously has a negative effect in the short term. We've slid down the leagues, due to poor management appointments, poor recruitment and not always reinvesting when we have sold players. If we sell Che for £2m and he goes onto be crap then we'll all say great business by the club. On the other hand if he turns out to be decent then we'll slate the club!

Doesn't that largely come under the banner of "doesn't get reinvested properly" ?

For me, the biggest reason for failure over the last 10 years is too many poor management appointments and sacking managers at the wrong time - Wilson and before that Blackwell spring to mind. With a decent manager we can still succeed with or without Che. Last season, if Adkins had recruited better then even without Murph I think we would have finished in the play offs minimum. Saying that, selling Murph so late in the window certainly hindered Adkins, and with Murph I'm certain we'd have made the play offs.

I wouldn't complain too much about him going. Scored 12 (?) goals last season. McNulty has proven he can score that many and was used mainly as a sub under Clough.
Is that all you look at ,Stats ? Its not championship manager its real life ,try and get one.

James Shield has really helped us out there hasn't he - "£2m rated Adams".

Setting the bar nice and low in the eyes of the public. Why do anything to try and increase his perceived value...

Who cares what an article says he's worth.

Wigan: we'll give you £2m
Utd: no.
Wigan: but the star says you value him at £2m!
Utd: oh well if the star says so, we have to accept!!

The wages and other costs need to be funded out of ongoing revenue from crowds, sponsorship etc. We have by far the largest income out of any division one team and are owned by 2 very rich men so we should be able to match income and expenditure. However This club is badly run, how much are all the executive management team being paid, how much has been wasted on severance pay for numerous sacked CEO's etc ?

How do Gillingham keep hold of Bradley Dack on 6k crowds and every single season we sell our crown jewels on 18k crowds ? Bad management from the very top is the answer and we keep repeating the same mistakes...sell the good uns and reinvest in frees on big wages !

Do you know what Gillingham were offered for Dack during last season? Maybe nothing substantial enough to Justify letting him go - United like all other league 1 clubs will have a price for every player on their books that they feel is "enough" to seriously consider it - we have to get used to this while ever we are in this league and not picking up the big bucks from the leagues above.

But surely all the 19 year old shelf stackers at Aldi know better - every penny received from player sales must be reinvested in transfer fees otherwise it will all go in McCabe's back pocket

I just don't get why some people just expect board members to continue funding our L1 existence.

I remember the club discussing our relegation 5 years ago - it was said at the time that loss of income would equate to about £3m

It is said now that promotion up 1 division is worth about £5m in extra income from all sources - whilst wages would have to increase accordingly, we would probably be able to hang onto Che or others in that situation.

Really? Shit, I obviously thought we had to accept what the paper says he's valued at.

You see ridiculous figures quoted everywhere you look. £2m for Adams is modest in comparison given his reputation. It's not the sort of money that should be being talked about if we want to get into the correct mindset for the current market. It's setting a low benchmark in its own little way. Every chance to increase his perceived value should be taken. It was unnecessary for Shield to state £2m, in the headline too, and I bet the 'independent figures' who say what he's worth don't even exist, it's probably just his opinion.

It's our owners fault we got relegated.
If he's not willing to fund it, sell the club.

Simple as. We're on the verge of becoming a mid table league one club while Bournemouth sign £15mil players. Embarrassing.

bournemouth are getting 100m from tv money
we arent

why is it embarrassing
if we were in the championship we wouldnt be getting 100m

just cos adkins didnt spend didnt mean he had no money
wilson spent money , who gave him that

Wilson spent practically nothing mate! I think Wilson did the best job he could and he inherited a decent team for sure, but he brought in McDonald for nothing, Flynn for £150,000 and Chris Porter for a free in his first pre season. Then he brought in the likes of Hill on a free, Blackman was undisclosed but probably a few hundred grand and Miller for £50,000. I reckon he never spent more than a few hundred grand per player and he didn't bring in that many because the squad was full of big earners. Clough spent more, although he also did have his two cup runs and we sold Maguire so he probably spent only what he received back from the transfers and the cup runs, possibly Brayford aside.

Birmingham City were the club that had the bid rejected according to some on Twitter.

Saw that. It came from a journalist so should be genuine. I think its just a matter of time before Adams leaves.

If he's leaving I hope it all gets done quickly (but for the right price of course). If CW's budget suddenly jumps by £2m (assuming all of it is given to the transfer/wages kitty) then he'll need time to use it. Don't want him leaving on August 25th and us having missed all the best players or panic buying mediocre players or players who doesn't really fit the system.

There's a first time for everything, but if Wilder is given all of what we get for Adams for his transfer kitty, I'd wear a wide brimmed hat Teddy 'cus the air will be full of Pigs.
