Outgoing? Che Adams

Quite some time ago I commented, woefully I should add, that we should have tried harder to sign Callum Wilson. It seems we may have a player of similar qualities in Adams. This type of player is the gold standard when it comes to transfer fees. It's too early to say how good he might become, but it's all there and the only way it can go pear shaped is for Adams himself to believe his own propaganda and act like Bertie Big Bollocks. The key is to keep his feet grounded, work on his game to improve certain weak aspects (Sharp will help in this department), and hope we can hold onto him for a few years yet.
 
I can understand Murphy being sold & from a nearly neutral poknt of view im almost glad hes gone because he wants to try not only bdtter himself at a higher level bit try & break into the Scotland squad maybe play at euro 2016 if they qualify you cant hold that against him if anything I be worried if he had the chance to go & didnt following Gordon stractans alleged advice as it shows a lack of ambition. But if we sell che adams it will hit fan because there is absolutely no reason to sell him & is 1 of those players who can create something always gets you off your seat whrns on ball in final 1/3rd ssid somewhere before but if he says whole season possibly injury free he is a shoe in for pfa team of yr

And of course you're right. Motherwell fans would have been pissed off when we nicked Murphy, ditto Livingston with McNulty and Rochdale with Done. Forest 'rested' Antonio last night and he's rumoured to be on his way for around £4.5m (three times what Wendy got for him. 12 months ago. :D)

The key thing with Adams is not to accept the first offer that comes in, but pitch his fee at a level that reflects his enormous potential (with maybe one of those weird 'sell-on clauses' that other teams insist on...)

Football is going fucking mad at the moment and is awash with money even down to our level. (Andre Gray going from Brentford to Bristol City for £9m, FFS!) Che also needs some wise counsel - not just from his agent. Sunderland would be a total waste of his abilities and the wrong move for him. A bit like Maguire going to Hull.

I've heard our Board accused of many, many things over the years but I have NEVER heard them being accused of "knowing what they're doing" !!

I believe that's an outrageous accusation and it's unsubstantiated and totally without foundation ..... :eek:

I think the board are aware of what Che can be worth ,another contract must be on the table by now hopefully he has signed up for an extended period as if some club comes in next summer he could be off pretty cheaply. .We would be due compensation but as he hasn't come through our academy that wouldn't be a fantastic amount.extending his contract is a must

All you say is correct graf, but the thing that will sway Adam's thinking is the wedge he'd earn, unless of course he's remarkably stable, realises he's got many years in front of him, enough time to earn the sort of wage that will set him up for life, and decides that improving his game is the most fundamental thing he should concentrate on. Scoring against Spurs and the goals he's scored this season may contribute to his agent and others telling Adams he's bound for glory, but the best advice, the healthiest advice he can and should listen to, is to improve his skill base. He's already a young 'un with potential, that dedication I've mentioned will set him up for a career that he should look forward to.

There's time enough for money, it's the self-improvement he needs to focus on.....the rest will follow if his potential shines through.

Hope so Olly, Adams looks dynamic, a rough diamond if you like, but exactly the sort of young player we should do our best to hang on to. A new contract, an increase in pay, and Adkins emphasising the need for Adams to work hard and show what a class act he can become. Those are the priorities Adkins must focus on with Adams.
 
Does anyone have a link to his interview when he first joined us, he seemed incredibly humble and grateful for the opportunity, after being dumped by Coventry after coming through their academy he thought his career was over, and he's been given a second chance in professional footbal and said he was going to grab it with both hands as he knew he was in a privileged position, or words to that effect.

Just hope he doesn't have a greedy agent.

Wouldn't be an agent if greed didn't figure madeinsheffield. Understandably agents and players live in the moment rather than the past, the best we can hope for is to get a contractual extension for another 3-4 years.

Don't pop onto other social media that often but just having a glance round this morning, and I have to say Jim was in fine form with one person who said Che would be the next to go:

Jim Phipps, Co-Chairman, SUFCGeoff, I personally received an unsolicited written request from the player. The player's own public statements support what we have told you. He wanted to go where he could be seen and have a better shot of being invited to play for Scotland. That's what he put in writing. From there things were pretty academic. I am not sure why you want to imagine the worst or to promote a false understanding of the facts. Can we let this be the end of, focus on the team we have and trust football management to lead out? I would propose we consciously choose to be at one and make this a UNITED promotion push.

Jim Phipps, Co-Chairman, SUFCGeoff, we did not flog HM and we did not flog JM. We were not part of the decision on KM, which predated our entry. Both HM and JM asked to go. We did the best we could in the circumstances (tried to convince the player to stay, offered the player our best, then failing that made the best deals we could). I don't have a basis on which to compare ourselves to past regimes. I can tell you this though: All 92 clubs in English football are selling clubs as far as I can tell. While I am a newcomer, this would appear to be an unavoidable part of the sport. It is in part due to the way players constantly change (they age, they get better, they lose their edge, they ask to transfer, they get their heads turned, they get good advice from agents, they get bad advice from agents). It is also in part due to the changeable nature of clubs, whose fortunes rise and fall for any number of reasons (they make good or bad management appointments, they please their fans, they alienate their fans, they have owners whose financial strength waxes or wains with the times, they experience good luck or bad refereeing decisions in important matches, they get promoted, they fail to get promoted, they get relegated, etc., etc). The economics of the sport are brutal. Only 15 clubs in the Premiere League were profitable last season. From there down to the bottom of the FL, there are not many examples of profitable clubs. I do not have exhaustive knowledge, but in L1 perhaps only Bradford were profitable last year (result of fantastic cup runs). This means most clubs (especially outside of the Prem) are reliant on a combination of player trading and owner support. In the end, I think we have been very lucky at SUFC in terms of the commitment the McCabes and Prince Abdullah have made to the club, given the division we are in. A quite serious promotion campaign is on this season, starting with the manager appointment and transfers in. We are working hard across the club to channel all resources into this effort. I am hoping long time supporters like yourself will see this and choose to believe in what we are doing. A key to our success this year will be supporters showing up and filling Bramall Lane. To do this we need folks who have stayed away for whatever reason (being in L1 for now five seasons might be enough, right?) to rejoin the fight. Anyway, that's too many words to say, I want you and your friends and family on side. I am willing to take a whole lot of crap to earn your trust. We all are. We know it is no fun being in this league. You want out. We want out. Let's do it together and not implode at every bump along the way.

You're right in saying that this new contract doesn't prevent him from moving on, whether that's in January, next summer, the year after... that much is sadly inevitable when talking about a talent like Ché. What this new contract actually does is reward the player for his performances up to now, thus keeping him happy, playing well and his attention away from off-the-field matters (for now, at least). It also means that we as a club are in a fantastic position to negotiate the best deal we can when the time eventually comes for him to move on.
 
Just a thought, a couple of questions occur to me.

Adams new deal is for 3 years. Is there a further year's option included that can be activated by the club?

I believe Adams original deal ended at the end of the 2016 season (is this correct?). Does the new contract begin from the end of the 2016 deal?

Important details for us. Although I'm happy we've managed to conclude a new contract with Adams, 'how long' and 'from when' are crucial questions, so can someone provide answers please?
