Campbell?

Reason rather than speculation but the lads struggling somehow and I doubt its physical or he wouldnt be on the bench .
Players dont suddenly get lazy or out of condition , theyre the 0.5% from academies who have to fight to become what they are .

Hope he gets through whatever it is , perhaps being on the bench for matchday is just keeping him involved , giving him some self belief 🤷 , some things are just perhaps a bit more complicated than they appear .

Wilder talking about seriki new contract.."he has to earn it"..WTF has Campbell done to earn it...Im just hoping wilder goes before Seriki and One..those two can be part of our future under a progressive manager.
Both will be sold if they hit any kind of consistant form

Arsenal and Manchester City have Directors of Football, they have been a success.
A better comparison for us would be Hull City. Went up without parachute payments and despite having a transfer embargo. Making more of a fist of it in the PL than we did in either of our last two seasons there.

The latter is coming back from injury so Wilder isnt eating into anything.
Oné was brought on for 10 minutes on Saturday. Unless he’s injured again next move was surely anofher 10 or maybe 15, not to drop from the squad entirely.

Oné has done more in limited minutes than Campbell has all year.

Was quite close to the pitch, there was a moment when the ball went back to the keeper who was on a yellow card. Campbell literally slowed down rather than sprinting to put him under pressure, it was the same pattern when he attempted to close the ball down. Compare that to Tom Cannon who worked his nads off the other night, Campbell's cameo was simply unacceptable in my opinion.

Watford and Leicester have Director of Football, have they been a success?
Brentford have split the DoF role into two and now have a Sporting Director and a Technical Director. Brighton have a Sporting Director. Both those sides are historically miles behind us but currently in another stratosphere.

What’s your point?

Mad how quickly a fan base can turn on a player who's started about 2 games in 6 months.

Maybe if Wilder actually started Campbell, he'd get his match sharpness and fitness back. You can't expect someone to be at their best when they're barely playing.

For me it's shocking management from Wilder. He's choosing not to start him but then coming out and telling everyone how unfit he is. How's he supposed to get match fit if he's not getting the minutes?

I haven't seen Campbell look massively different physically to what he did 18 months ago. The main difference is he's not match sharp anymore, which is hardly surprising when he's barely played.

Now Wilder's basically thrown him under the bus and the fans have turned on him as well.

It's ridiculous to expect a player who's barely played for 6 months to come in and perform like someone who's been starting every week. Give him a run in the team before writing him off.

But it's not sudden, he's got a reputation for it hence the opinions of the Stoke fans. Let's be honest, it's not like he's gone from being one of our fittest and hardest workers to a lazy cunt. He reminds me of one of those employees that do enough to pass their probation period then when they know they're safe they just get lazy

Normally agree with most things you post mate but I'm not sure you're right here.

One of my mates at work is a massive Stoke fan who follows them home and away and he says TC is showing exactly the same trajectory he showed at Stoke.

Looked superb to start with and everyone thought they had a serious player on their hands then form and fitness absolutely dropped off a cliff and he becamle lazy and uninterested.

Sounds familiar right??

Two separate jobs costing a lot of money in addition to to the coaching staff. It probably works well when there is sufficient money available, but I suspect our owners do not wish to invest to advance as they should.

Easier for the big clubs to afford two big wages. Watford and Leicester thought they are big clubs. Let's not fall into the same situation

I've mentioned this on this debate before.

A DoF is meant to bring together all the operations of running the club from a footballing perspective, maximising profits where we can and getting the most from a budget. This would include contracts, recruitment, scouting and player profiling, making sure we're signing players of the right age that we can either develop of sell on at a higher value when they get to their peak. All of which we have been horrendous at and have been burning through money on whatever "plan" we have now. Take this summer for example, we don't have a pot to piss in, yet we've wasted whatever budget we have on aging players with no resale value on presumably higher than average wages, all who will leave the club at the end of the season and we'll be back to square 1 next pre season.

There is no medium or long term strategy, luckily this pre season we had assets we could sell. But this isn't a sustainable model, and we won't always have £20 million worth of players to sell.

A DoF will take a wage, of course they will, but lets not pretend we're sensible with money now. Without knowing the facts, I would bet my mortgage that the players we've signed this summer will all be on more than what a DoF would be.

Bill Foley has invested around £300m since taking over, about £100m a season. It pales into insignificance when you see what the rest of the league is spending. Bloom only invests loans into the club when player sales don't cover it. There was a couple of years when they sold half the squad to Chelsea where he didn't invest anything.

Look at how much money wilder has spent in 19/20/21 and returned none of it. That's why he shouldn't be trusted with transfers.

Seems to be working for the likes of Lincoln though.

It's not even 'new' anymore. They've been a thing for nearly ten years, even longer on the continent. Not good enough for plucky united though, we'll stick to muck and nettles and a bottle of Peroni.

This is who google thinks we employ in roles at exec level.
  • Chief Executive Officer (CEO): Stephen Bettis
  • Head of Football Administration: Carl Shieber
  • Head of Operations: Dave McCarthy
  • Head of Commercial: Paul Fielder
  • Head of Finance: Debbie Andrew
  • Head of Media: Kevin Cookson
  • Head of Facilities: Andrew Chadwick
  • Head of HR: Vicki Anderson
  • Head of Safety and Security: Mark Butler
My assumption is Shieber’s job is administrative rather than strategic. Which leaves the manager, CEO and the owners making the significant football decisions.

Given football is the core business, and this is a multimillion-pound organisation, it seems a massive hole. We’ve so much to thank Wilder for in recent years, but the average tenure of a Championship manager is less than a year.

I don’t care what the role is called or whether it’s done by committee, but I want the club to have a body that owns and defines the medium term football strategy. It should be written down, understood by all, and acted on.

If Wilder loses the next 5 games, it feels like most of our current strategy would go out the door with him.

Is that a serious post? He clearly came back from the summer break out of condition. He's since had time to get back to a good level of fitness and impress when he gets a chance.
He's done neither and you expect us to start him until he gets his fitness back back.

For a pig it’s a serious post. 😁

It has been as helpful as your post in the "Wendy's transfer strategy..." posted on 5/1/2016!
If you're too thick to understand how a DOF would benefit us I can't help you

Ironically the wheels came off at Wendy when their transfer committee headed up by Glenn Roeder was dismantled. Before that they were going great guns.

Or Hamza Choudhury, or Jamie Shackleton, or....

And of course, someone competent in that role would probably have helped us avoid signing those kinds of players. Pays for itself!
It's not even worth arguing with people who can't see the value in it, genuinely. It's like plaiting piss 🤣

Did you listen to his interview and the bit where he said about taking advice from medecal staff? No thought not.
