I remember way back to the early Championship manager days that you could play players slightly out of position and even when you won there was a fair chance they’d not play as well as in their preferred spot.

So why are we restricting ourselves so much? It’s got to stop; us keep relying on players to revert to their second or third choice position.

Choudhury - How can you have a 26 man squad with 25 pros over 21 and still end up with a central midfielder as your right back? Tanganaga played more at right back than centre back for Mourinho, so when we were away at Bolton why did we shove poor Baptiste there?

Choudhury should be played and judged in a midfield alongside Phillips or instead of Phillips if the latter isn’t fit, and potentially with one more.

Peck is a central midfielder. He’s even potentially an attacking midfielder though I may stop short of no 10. Anyone watching him through the youths will know he was attack minded. So why are we attempting to make him a defensive midfielder and waste his talents when we also have so many of them?

Chong isn’t a winger either, despite us having him down as a wing option. If you look at this Championship experience alone, he’s played more games centrally than out wide, including striker, number ten and attacking midfield. He could play as a 10.

There are others but we have to get out of this habit, of reducing the capacity of players by brushing off so easily debates on formations and positions.

It does fly in the face of the earlier success Wilder had where it was two players per position and they could actually play in that position.

Other than Basham occasionally going into midfield, on a couple of famous occasions, we rarely saw any other shifts.

You missed Arblaster’s current position, I didn’t ever expect him to be playing on the right of a front three.

Unless playing Choudhury at right back and seeing him get torn a new arsehole every time they attacked was some sort of clever tactic that us simple folk don’t get?
