I actually thought he did a decent job today. I expect I'll get the usual 'never touched the ball' 'his job is to score goals' bollocks but no, his non stop running and closing down was good. Had a bit of spice when he fronted their big defender up and his attitude was spot on.I

it looked like Wilders game plan was for Cannon to do the running and Bamford pick the pieces up. We aren't a great team, despite winning three nil we always look safety first and negative but if Cannon can keep his energy up, he might even chip in with a goal or two assuming Wilder doesn't start chopping and changing things too much.

Thought he had his best game for us today. He takes a lot of stick for others not seeing a pass

Bamford played in the no 10 role and did it very well.

Didn’t see the game so won’t comment on his performance but I’m glad we’re holding out 8 million pound striker signing to the standard of saying he played well because he ran after the ball.

But yes his job literally is to score goals, we paid a lot of money for it, and Bamford embarrasses the ‘well where’s his service’ excuse but our scoring him handsomely.

Anyway, onwards and upwards eh

It ain’t how, it’s how many

He was woeful

Stop this rubbish

You know a player is just not that good when the praise he does get is for running, just being fit and running around. I think we could get someone from hallamshire harriers to run his socks off for 90 minutes and folk would think there is a football player in there.
To be fair, it’s very rare for us to have a player capable of running their socks off for more than 60 minutes so he’s going to stand out for it.

I'm amazed that you could watch that today and your first instinct was to start a new thread on Cannon.

Shows you really have some kind of obsession.

He's not going to shag you mate.

First inclination was to come on and call you a wanker but we already know that 🐎🐎🐎

I thought he had a good game too! Showed more effort in that 1st half than most!

1st half I thought it was standard, Camnon being gently ushered out of the way by grown ups. 2nd half, he offered a real physical fight to a set of giants.

Actually offered a focal point and I enjoyed him showing a bit of personality and getting pissed off with one of theirs. Thought it was his best 45 as a United player.

He played his part today - leading the line against two giants and for a lad who's not exactly a target man, he did a decent job of getting amongst them and at least trying to make something of the punts in his general direction.
Whatever you think of him we have to start getting the best out of him now
At least he is usually fit and can play 90 minutes

We get the best out of Cannon (and Bamford), by playing with wingers (or wing backs) and getting the ball in the box quickly, and with more frequency.
They're both instinctive predatory finishers burdened with too many other tasks because of deficiencies in other areas of the pitch.

Yeah I have to admit I like the combination of Bamford as the deeper second striker and cannon as the striker
Its got potential but its early days and needs a lot of work

Cannons angry face is exactly the same as Cannon's warming up face, his jogging down the tunnel at half time face, his "whoops, I should have done better there" little jump face and his being subbed off after 80 minutes with another big fat zero against his name face.

Has anyone checked that he's not wearing a cardboard mask?

Cardboard isn't good when wet and as we've all seen Cannon play in the rain with zero impact to his face, I can say with some confidence no, he isn't wearing a facial mask.

Never stopped running and closing down all game, I've seen Jack Russel terriers and Nick Montgomery run around for 90 mins it didn't make them good footballers, and it doesn't make Tom Cannon a good footballer either. Too slow, too weak, we might as well have put Ryan Oné on in his position he would at least have put himself about. Instead, Wilder brings Oné on to play out wide then calls him out for making a mistake, he really can't help himself when it comes to jumping on young players.

He worked hard to close down their defence and i watched him make a number of runs off the shoulder of their defenders and not once did any of our midfield players try to thread a ball to him, preferring to turn and pass it back or sideways, almost as if they are told to do that. Your guess that retaining possession is more important than scoring goals

I assume they are playing to instruction. ie - they must play safe balls to retain possession. The problem as I see it is they play the ball around in front of our penalty area, and as happened today they misplace passes and give the ball away - we got away with it a few times today. If we thread the ball through and lose it, we have the length of the pitch to recover.
I'm not wanting aimless long balls but surely we could be a little more adventurous at times?
