Asked about the best atmosphere he had experienced in his time in England Pochettino picked Bramall Lane. ‘They are a historic club currently in the third tier and for a Cup game there were 35,000 (sic) people in the stadium. So it’s that not Old Trafford, or Stamford Bridge or the Emirates that stands out,’ he told Primer Toc:-

5000 Spurs fans celebrating getting to the final may have influenced his opinion. Wonder if Pochettino would say the same about a cold Tuesday night game v Scunthorpe

Still, nice to be praised again. Spurs seem to love us.

Only problem with the last article is that the massive can comment at the end and remind everyone that they regularly get 40000

Must say what a gentleman Pochettino is compared with Koeman. Even last weekend Koeman was complaining about their defeat against Swansea on the lines of the team that wanted to win lost.

Not a particularly respectful comment coming from the bloke who wanted to preach to us about showing respect.

I have a family member who is a lifelong Wendy; he comes along to one or two games a season out of genuine football interest and recently remarked that with 3 corners filled in and a generally more compact layout the acoustics and sound retention at BDTBL are better than the Gaping Rusty Meccano Set. It's no San Siro on a Champions League night but I see where he's coming from...

When both tiers of the Spurs fans were in full flight singing 'Yid Army' for 15 minutes straight it was as imposing an away end as I've seen, especially with the Lane as deathly silent as it was during the first half.

Nice of Poch to acknowledge a well-supported club - decent guy and entertaining fans.

Not for the full game but we both made some serious noise.
It's great that even the foreign managers appreciate historic/atmospheric grounds.

Its good to get recognition from Spurs . BDTBL can have a great atmosphere , but let us all remember , its not the fortress it used to be , and league 1 teams , seem to like playing at BDTBL , for obvious reasons . Also the lane can become quite toxic , by certain fickle , impatient fans when things aren't going our way.

The lads on the pitch need our support at home at all games , like they get way from home by the supporters , who follow them.

2 things Deano's Shorts

Firstly nice avatar - they were proper short shorts

Secondly, I've mentioned this before, but one of the most sickening moments in a football fan's day is when a packed away end jump to celebrate a goal, and there's that split second between seeing them jump and hearing them. You know the noise is coming and there's nothing you can do about it. Horrible. Especially when it's the unclean or the dirties or dingles.....

Welcome BTW.

He shouldve been there on Tuesday v Preston and he'd realise how shit it can be!

But at the same time, to see them celebrate, like spurs did, then to have three sides going mental after scoring twice last week, they must've thought they were done... turns out they weren't and we heard that delayed cheer as the equalised in the 88th minute

I actually felt more sickened on Tuesday as i walked out the ground, hearing the PNE fans celebrating after the final whistle.

I always find it's worse when you're part of the packed away end and the home team puts one in. Three sides of the ground celebrating at your expense. Twats.

Strangely enough, Bloomfield Road was always a horrible place to be when the home team scored. Very loud for the number of people usually in the ground. I have particular bad memories of Bobby Hatton scoring for them many years ago and us getting a right towsing.

Possibly, but Spurs ooze class. If, say Liverpool or Man. U. were 'celebrating getting to the final' in similar circumstances, it would show absolutely no respect to the supporters of the little 'ol club they've just beaten.

Similarly, the Spurs fans who came on here. Like 'Charlton George' last season, true fans of proper clubs.

We should send a video to MUFC of BDTBL really rocking with a caption 'This is what you could have won....'

Its something I rarely do, but I left before the final whistle Tuesday, purely for that reason. Didn't mind seeing the Spurs fans at the end, and I wanted to applaud our players too. Couldn't be arsed to clap them Tuesday.

I thought the atmosphere was pretty shit between there first goal and our equalizer.

The Sheffield-based club are one of the biggest of England despite playing in League One, and retain one of the largest fanbases in the country.

What is refreshing about the United fans is that they have remained loyal and go to games despite their team not being in the Premier League or in the Championship.

I believe the above to be largely horseshit however it will have a few oinkers spitting feathers.

Thanks for the welcome - entered the fray somewhat unannounced.

The roof undoubtedly came off after Che's second (again, that unmistakable Lane roar) and stayed off until Eriksen's second, but when you consider that Spurs brought no more than 1,000 more fans than Southampton's 4,500, you realise just how much the noise from them carried.

Watched us lose 0-1 to the Dingles earlier in the season. Horrible little noise from the inbred end.

I always liked this description of our beloved ground on Football Grounds Guide, especially this bit about going for a leak!

"The United fans are particularly passionate and vocal about their club. This makes for a great atmosphere at games, but also can make it somewhat intimidating for the away supporter. It was one of those grounds that by just listening to the crowd you could tell what was happening on the pitch. I found it quite amusing as having to go for a leak just before half time, I could hear the home crowd shout Goo-on as a Sheffield Unitedattack began. Then this got louder & louder as the United team got closer to the goal, Goo-on, Goo-on, Goo-On! and then the air turned blue as whoever it was missed the chance!

I remember a write up somewhere from a fan of one our bezzies (west ham) and he pointed out how brilliant the "gooooow oooooon" shout was.
I think we are some of the most downtrodden/negative fans in the country(or is that just in comparison to the arrogants down the road)
And while that is a negative most of the time, when we do pull something out of the fire- when we do pull off something brilliant- we sing and celebrate more than most fans I've ever heard

I like Pochettino. He did well at Scumpton, despite a real language discrepancy and during a fire sale of players.

I knew he'd be off to a bigger club pretty soon after his initial mark was made and the country could see how he'd got a hit and miss side playing some decent football.

His attitude to us has been nothing less than decent and respectful. I like Spurs anyway - they always are the PL's bridesmaids and are a long time without a real trophy and some top four action. The days of Chivers, Gilzean, Knowles, Perryman are too far distant and I believe they should be doing better and under him with the side he has, there's no reason why they can't make it.

Good to see therefore that Sheff Utd can match them in places and use them to illustrate what a great football club we have, and for them to show us the respect we deserve for that.

Not unlike some on this forum. I guess it makes football, The Blades, and talking about them, so f**king great.

Possibly the most impressive for me was in 1992 (I think) when Leeds won the title. Their rendition of "Up the Table We Will Go" was deafening on the South Stand

I saw plenty of games at Hillsborough from the late-sixties through to the mid-seventies and it always seemed to me that the atmosphere there was poor compared to the Lane. It had a lot to do with there being no roof on their Kop and the place only really livened up when those in the stands joined in - it involved them stamping their feet, as I recall. To be fair, they were a side in decline for most of that period as well. I remember getting soaked on their Kop in 1969 when Man City relegated them and me and my Wednesday-supporting mate then had to walk back into town because there were no buses but for some reason it couldn't quite take the shine off the night for me.

Even though we only had a three-sided ground, our atmosphere was better, particularly at night matches and the 1970 League Cup defeat of Leeds and the unforgettable Cardiff game in 1971 stand out in particular

For as long as I've loved football, I've not really liked Spurs, no particular reason, just never liked them. Same with Ipswich, although I've since found reasons not to like them as much. But conduct of the team and manager, and of the fans I have met and read on this fine forum have changed my opinion and I found myself pleased that they beat West Brom and I too will look out for their results. A road to Damascus moment, so to speak. Never to old to change an opinion.

Nice post pompey for the spurs . Out of all the top clubs we have played in the cup , its only Pochettino and supporters who have given the blades the credit they have deserved.

There in the shadow of Arsenal , Chelsea and i wish them luck.

Whether or not the guy and supporters , would have been so complimentary if they had lost , is another kettle of fish.

I remember that game me and my dad decided to go (my dad was a true blade ) and after the game he said to me " someone forgot to tell that bowyer lad pigs were supposed to win ":D

They used to sell/hire cushions back then and, when they lost (often) they used to chuck them on the pitch.

Fuckin' Ladyboyz.
