I have to admit that I'm delighted to not be doing anything at the moment. It's nice being able to switch off from United after the game has finished. I have thought about doing a Blades nostalgia based one or maybe one that focuses less on the team and more on the experience of being a fan but right now I'm happy talking about Nokia phones on the Who Remembers podcast.

Would definitely listen to any podcast you did though and be up for coming on as a guest at some point
The COVID season reviews were some of the best Bladespod content. I understand why you don’t want to cover the current squad but a blades historian podcast would be a really interesting listen, especially if you dig into pre-war stuff, the cricket club, stadium development etc…

I’m sure it’d be great, even if Ben isn’t an Expert Rememberer.

There was a podcast covering old games that I really enjoyed but they don't seemed to have posted in years. It's definitely something I'm thinking about in the new year. I think old United games are the only things I'm not absolutely terrible at remembering

Some of you and Beans' best work was the season reviews. More of those would be a great listen.

The Nokia episode is one of the best yet. Really specific stuff like that works, I think, better than trying to cover a very wide subject, which always leaves me thinking “but you haven’t talked about…” and also gets me worried that you’re going to cover every conceivable subject area in the entire history of time too soon, resulting in a premature end to the pod.

For anyone who hasn’t listened to ‘Who Remembers’ and wants to get a taste of it, try the Nokia episode.

Cheers for that message. We definitely think the more 'remember what life was like when.." work better than the huge topics ones.

That’ll be a good un, with Deadbat
Will try that on my trip up to Sheffield tomorrow morning.
I like what you guys do. It’s balanced because you contrast the stats but with the eye test.

It’s a results based business, though. Whilst we are so shite I lose the inclination to consume a pod. I like the NTT20 lads stuff and I do like the breadth of what they do across the EFL but it’s a tough listen when we are so lame and impotent.
Ah mate, I lose the inclination to make a pod. That's why a) we try not to do game reaction pods and talk about games in bunches, and b) why we make stuff that isn't about current affairs.

In times like these, where the football is bad and things feel off, it's nice I think to remind ourselves that football is about more than the football. What's the point dwelling on a terrible performance?

Just listened to the Deadbat pod. Very good and David’s choices were excellent and his background to each one was terrific too.

Since I’ve been listening on an audio pod medium, and just had to stop before the end, are the images available to see? The Deane & Agana one is iconic but I wanted to see the kop one.
1. For the image itself ✅
2. I’ll be in it somewhere 😊
3. If I can find me I may be able to see some mates from that time that have sadly been too long gone 😟

I think there’s an option to do multipart/serial episodes - e.g. the fashion one could have easily spent 30 mins just talking about certain brands like Umbro, Rockport or Sweater Shop over 3 or 4 episodes.

Also would be good to finish with a bit of poorly researched ‘where are they now’ - e.g. you talked about Netto and you could have gone onto mention they were bought by Asda because they were starting to become competitive.

You and Liam could trail a Who Remembers Blades special episode Roy, lots of trivial and bizarre stuff would be great!

They're on the Substack page: https://www.thepinch.uk/p/hang-it-in-the-louvre-2-david-deadbat

I'm yet to find a way of getting them onto Apple/Spotify

We did do a series on Wilder 1.0, The Wildest Ride - a three parter with Kate Burlaga and Nathan Hemmingham. We're currently in the early stages of sketching out a prequel for the season that is the Revenge of the Sith to Wilder 1.0's A New Hope.

Yeah we should have done that in hindsight. Got the best few in the bag but will definitely think about narrowing the topics down in future

Roygbiv if you ever fancy reigniting the pod train, give me a shout. I’ve been looking to set one up in the theme of Bladespod for a while, even had conversations with Foxy around an S2 one.

I’d be very open to discussing it with you and Beans if you’d ever feel there’s a possibility of passing the baton a la Jay to Roy.
Joy Division/New Order vibes potentially.

Roy Division?

Not heard of Nigel Humpbackwhale for ages.

Thank you for the kind comments

I’ve stated before that part of Deadbat ’s charm is that he sounds to me like a cross between Rudy Wade, off misfits, and Dave Best from The Royale Family.

I mean that in a complimentary way. He has that dead pan delivery, which I appreciate.

I can only imagine what he’s like with the pupils. I’ll bet he’s popular but I also bet he can be a scathing, sarky bugger, when the occasion demands.

Appreciate your words. I think!

Don't watch misfits but I'll take a look.

As for the pupils, youd have to ask them on popularity! I take no prisoners but I'm hard but fair and hope they say I care. I am very sarcastic and deprecating in my humour. Have won funniest teacher a few times which is worrying for the other staff.

interestingly a parent came up to me at a parents event and shouted across the hall, 'Tufty Club!' Never met him before in my life. Said I'd given him lots of pleasure. Then looked at his wife and laughed. I was anxioudly hoping no other staff heard my conversation. Luckily his son is a great lad.

Anyway I've got to get to the Feathers with Jim. Hope Beverly Macca is in!
