Coming to you live from Melbourne, Australia. Gutted about the pod, as it’s been a really important connection for me, not only to the Blades, but also to Sheffield more generally. It was always a good balance of fandom and impartiality; boundless hope, and crushing reality; thoughtful analysis and bitter rant!
Thanks for it all. Good luck - and all the best to Roy with your mum.

Always nice to hear Partridge references on the Pod, Roygbiv. Thought this one could be applied to the podcast situation:

"After the bombing of Dresden, Norwich became the city with the largest number of pre-Reformation Churches in Europe"

"After Beans and Roy stopped doing Bladespod, Tufty Club became the best Sheffield United podcast"

Plenty before me have said how much it will be missed and they are all right.

Beans , if your heart's not in it, then it's the right call.
Hang onto the name and logo, and maybe when we start our climb out of the Conference, you'll get your old mojo back.

Roygbiv , your grumpy old Blade routine, even makes me think I'm not the most miserable bastard on the planet, so I'll definitely miss that.

Thanks for everything lads (and Jay), and if it's any consolidation, you are going out at the top.

As an exile of 20 years, Blades are the only real thing that keep me connected to back home nowadays. Aside from the official channels and here, yours is the only content that I consume. Nothing against the other guys, as a club we are lucky to have many creators who make polished content (take a look at the pigs content to see how good our lot actually is). As a dad of 3 I can understand your position though. Thanks for all the free podcasts and the hundreds of hours over the years. Greatly appreciated and you will be missed. Hope there will be occasional specials in the future!

Absolutely gutted! Started listening during Covid and instantly felt reconnected with normality and United, which was a massive mental boost at the time, and have listened religiously to every episode since. BladesPod got me into podcasts in general as a way of taking time out and unwinding, but no other pod (Blades related or otherwise) comes close.

The approach struck the perfect balance between thoughtful analysis, stats, humour and the feeling of two mates just having a chat, and sometimes a necessary moan. So I oddly looked forward to (or needed) the pods more after a defeat, as a way of sharing the frustrations and moving on, and it will be missed.

If there are any future, one-off BladesPod episodes I am sure we would all tune back in... post-season reviews, revisiting historic matches or seasons, big game specials etc! But totally respect the decision for calling it a day, it must be a huge commitment, especially when times on the pitch are tough, as you can't just switch off from it and that must take its toll, when there are so many other things you can, and need to, do with your time.

So thank you for your dedicated and excellent hard work Beans and Roygbiv it has been massively appreciated and we all owe you a beer!

Thank you for all your hard work over the years, you have brought a great many memories to many blades fans.

This is very, very sad news, and I hope one day when the time is right, you will pick it up again.

To echo what many others have said - I’m an expat of nearly 15 years, and listened to your pod right from the start, it has been part of my week for many years, providing me with a connection to home, and a weekly discussion with my brother back at home, reflecting on what you have said!
Your efforts during COVID were heroic.

Also, as a father of young kids - I get it!

I wish you both all the best with your future endeavours, and you will be greatly missed.

Echo what others have said, really gutted it’s coming to an end but respect the decision. My highlight over the years of listening will definitely be driving around the Highlands and saving up about 6 hours worth of the podcast with my girlfriend moaning about having it on all day and then succumbing to actually enjoying it. Cheers lads and all the best in the future.

Have been listening since the 3rd episode - genuinely one of my favourite podcasts and I'm gutted to see it come to an end, but I stopped doing my own podcast after having one kid, so can hardly blame you for not having the time with two!

Thanks to both of you (and Jay) for all the free entertainment, and in the absence of BladesPod I hope that Whore Members goes from strength to strength!

Not to continue the love-in by bumping the thread but just want to say I'm genuinely taken aback by the reaction to this - only just got through all the replies on here. Thanks so much, really brought a smile to my face.
All the replies have not surprised me, the end of the best Blades podcast is truly gutting.
As others have mentioned your original ones with Jay also started my interest in football analytics.
Fully understand your reasons for finishing, I guess the preparation and work involved in producing a professional standard podcast is more work than we realise.
Anyway, thanks Ben (and Roy) for you efforts over the years.
Any chance we can tempt you to do any ad hoc ones?!!

I, like others that have posted before me, no longer live in Sheffield so Blades Pod was a good link back into all things united (when the locals get a bit carried away haha).

Sensible takes that I largely agreed with but the pod also acted as a weird type of counselling in 'the dark days' when wins were few and far between haha

All the best lads 👍

I’ve always considered BladesPod to be the flagship bodcast, and was always an island of measured calm when other podcasts were throwing the toys out of the pram! often the only contact I had with my son when he was away at university was messages about the latest pod.
Fingers crossed for an ‘Oasis style’ reunion in a decade or so?

As has been said by others, living away from Sheffield (though a lot closer than some), Bladespod kept me connected to the club and has been the only sufc pod I've regularly listened to, with your great mix of humour, seriousness and (honestly) professionalism! Ben and Roy, you've done fantastic work over the years and it's been a pleasure listening. You can retire the pod with your heads very much held high.

Have I Got News For You survived Angus Deayton’s demise and has subsisted ever since with guest hosts.

Roy could continue with someone different every week!

I'm not sure that Jo Brand, Stephen Mangham, Alexander Armstrong and Jeremy Clarkson, are that big on United.

I suppose, just suppose, it could work........

Thanks for all the podding. Like many people, I think it helped me process a defeat properly and celebrate a good win or promotion. My dog walks on a Monday will never be the same!

This is worse than the day we sold Deane and Fjortoft. If anyone wants to join me in the South Stand car park for a shoe protest, I’ll be there in five minutes.

Seriously though… I 100% understand the reasons for it, and huge kudos to Beans for getting his priorities right. Other life stuff is far more important than football and ultimately being a football fan should be about enjoyment (too many people forget that). The minute we see football as a stress or a chore, we should self reflect.

This has been by far my favourite podcast (of all, not just SUFC). I love how it’s always been a few days after the game, to avoid knee-jerk reactions. It’s been so nice to hear a balanced view with a bit of real life perspective. I’ve found it to be especially therapeutic after defeats, but brilliant after big wins like derbies. I’ve probably spent hours of my life pressing refresh, waiting for it to be released each week. As others have said, it’s been particularly fantastic for exiled fans and really helps to feel connected to Sheffield.

Thanks a million, both of you. And good luck to you and your families in the future!

BladesPod was the first podcast I listened to (before it started I was only really vaguely aware of what a podcast even was). I now listen to a long list of podcasts, but BladesPod remains my favourite, by a distance. Ben and Andrew are always level-headed - win or lose - always keep it balanced, while still being amusing, interesting and insightful.

My way of dealing with a United defeat has always been to completely switch off from all football until the pain subsides (which can vary - routine midweek away defeat: 3 days. Play-Off final defeat: 3 months) but my one exception is BladesPod, which I listen to whatever the result for its calming effects and uplifting humour.

I was gutted to see that it was ending, but I completely understand Ben's reasons and just wanted to say a huge 'thank you' to Ben, Andrew and Jay for the many, many hours they've put in over the years to give us all so much enjoyment. As this thread has demonstrated, it is massively appreciated.

I see that all of the BladesPod episodes, right back to the start, are still there and available, so I might start a nostalgic journey through the best bits (maybe a few of the worst bits, just to put our current 'plight' in a bit of perspective) of the last 8 years of following United - as heard on BladesPod.

If Andrew did have any thoughts of teaming up with someone and starting a United podcast (or continuing BladesPod), I'd be listening from the first episode, and I'm sure I'd be among many others in doing so.

Thank you again, Ben, Andrew and Jay.

Really gutted by this. Clear from the many replies above how appreciated the pod has been, but it’s been an absolute godsend as an exile enabling me to maintain more contact and interest with United than may have been the case otherwise (whether that’s a positive or not is another discussion!).

In a world where social media output has to become more extreme and outlandish to maintain engagement, Bladespod has been an outlier by staying measured and sensible. I remember the pod after the Villa 3-3 where I was ready to throw myself off the nearest skyscraper but you used the stats to justify that we would get promoted if we carried on playing like that, and you were quite correct.

Your efforts (Ben, Andrew, Jay etc) have been massively appreciated over the years and I hope you get your love for (men’s) football back. In the meantime I’ll read your women’s football musings as my daughter’s obsessed with it.
