Thought that Pele and Santos qas in the 70's? Reason I mention it is that I was there and learned his proper name, Edson Erantes du Nascimento. Only good time apart from the 1-3 in the nineties.

Arantes.

Played in the sixties as well. 1962 I think from memory. Taken by my Uncle to get me supporting the Pigs like the rest of the family apart from my Dad. No chance.

Yep, and haven't ever seen a better dummy than Pele's penalty against Springett.

.
And then Springett claimed in an interview that he had come out on top, because Pele had tried to send him the wrong way, and Springett wasn't fooled by this. The fact that he never moved and the ball hit the back of the net without him trying to get near it suggests that Pele got the better of that mental duel. Was ever thus with fantasists in S6.

Also Alan Birchenall`s goals in the sixties.
Glad someone got there at last. I was beginning to fear that just as, according to some, we oldies ought to be kicked off the Kop (see thread 'Atmosphere like a morgue'), we were being disappeared from this Forum as well.

Springett was one of the smarter pigs. When he signed for them he still trained with his old club (QPR) and only ever travelled to Hillsbrough for the game on match day. Probably afraid of catching something off the fuckers.

Match fixing was rife......

Was with a young lady I met at the dogs one night, I got to know her quite well against a wall as I recall, never saw her again, well, to be fair, I'd had that many shandies, I can't actually recall what she looked like at all!!
An excellent night!!

1992. North Stand. Surrounded by pork, but also loads of Blades and we were all game as fuck. It was a real humiliation for them in the end. :)
Remember it well. We kept our heads down but needn't have worried. 5 minutes in, Dane smashes us 1 up and the last 2 blocks of the stand leapt up. Blades everywhere and you could feel the tension. Was fantastic watching them slowly crawl out after Bobbys 2nd. A proper night to remember

Twas a truly beautiful night indeed. A beautiful night in a complete shit hole. Quite the paradox.

She was actually. She was the cousin of a lass I was seeing at the time which made it all the more sweet as that other lass was on/off with her boyfriend. Heartbreaker I am.

Sadly that was it, though.

I used to drink around S6 every weekend when doing my apprenticeship. Blue Ball, Shakey, Masons, Legends - not very welcoming to Blades I'll tell ya

Good work fella. Never really been a huge fan of knocking about the S6 area for good ale and party nights, but on the odd occasion I did as a younger geezer, I always found the females there game as a pheasants. Probably cos they knew they had a proper Bladesman in their midst. Has always been an accepted fact that Blades men are strong in arm, smart in head, drink like fish, and good in bed. And the S6 birds know it. It's like they've eaten spam all their lives and then a Bladesman turns up and it's like fillet steak to em.

Getting piss went through on that triangle bit of their kop, watching Chris Woods flapping at every ball that went anywhere near him, while Bobby Davison tied them up in knots at the other end ❤️⚽

Doing the Conga to "Always look on the bright side of life" and the memory of Deano slipping it across for Whitehouse to score in front of the Blades fans that night takes some beating. Also - very fond memories of a County Cup final mauling of 'em 4-1 when both sets of fans mixed together; it was oh so sweet to shove them out of the way to get to celebrate the goals at the Leppings Lane end. I remember one lady in a blue and white scarf effing and blinding something cruel when Blades fans trampled on her Thermos flask (shouldn't have left it the floor!). There were around 50,000 fans there that night, and Pat Laverty scored two for the Blades. Looking forward to Lafferty and Lavery humiliating them next season.

I was at that County Cup match, but the only thing I remember was feeling thrilled that we'd beaten them, and that therefore we'd got our an back for them getting promoted when we hadn't. Stupid kid, eh? I had a look at the Denis Clarebrough book, and he gives the crowd as 18,000.

Remember going to Gerry Young's testimonial back in 1971, it was shortly after the 'Ian Bowyer' show :p

Plenty of Blades on the East Bank having a laugh, they were as quiet as mice

In keeping with many posts on this thread, a night I spent (while living in S6 for a year) with a lovely young lady who since then I have always thought of as "the one that got away." Ah memries....:)

In football terms, Asaba/D'Jaffo giving me my first taste of derby day victory. I'll never forget going more bonkers than ever on the Leppings Lane end that glorious day.

Looking in the Denis Clarebrough book, I see the crowd for the September 1964 Birchenall game (2 goals in only his second match :)) was just above 32000. This was a derby in the top division; anybody have any idea why it was so low? I don't remember thinking at the time that it wasn't a big crowd.

I went to see Wednesday play Liverpool in 1988 when they had a great side, Barnes, Beardsley, etc. Liverpool were winning 4-0 and outplaying them when Wednesday scored against the run of play. Annoyed Liverpool went straight up from kick off and scored a fifth.

Born and bred in Walkley, so... all my childhood memories I guess?
Oh the sty? Never been
Similar for me ... lived in Stannington until I finished Uni.
Best moment at the Sty itself: My Dad taking me to my first game - Pigs vs. Man Utd. Must have been about 5 or 6. Didn't really understand what was going on, but I remember wanting the team in red to win! Only been back twice for County Cup games.
Best time I ever had in S6? Can't say, but it didn't involve football...

They once had Five for the price of four on Real Ale's at Morrisons at The Barracks.

I was there and don't recall Hodgy jogging. In fact in the entire time we had him, I don't recall him everjogging. He was pretty quick with the elbow but generally expended the minimum possible effort, while spraying the ball around beautifully.

In addition to various Blade wins there from 92-06, I also went on the Leppings Lane with Manyoo fans in the late 80's (a Manyoo mate had a spare ticket). I think 'we' won 2-1 and I didn't have any problems chanting 'United' or 'Come on you reds'.

The only problem was when the silly buggers sang 'We love United, we do'. They insert an 'Oh' in the last line, so I got the odd funny look.
Why the fuck do they stick that in ?

Only been in there three times. Once to receive my Junior Star Soccer Coaching certificate (we were forced to watch a fucking dire match afterwards with Pigs vs Fulchester City or summat) second and third time was when my bro in law (a Blade) used to walk over from Dutton Road where they lived to catch the last ten when they opened the gates. Went once and they were 0-3 down, on the old stone steps open kop. Its was MAGIC. Pigs losing, loads of the unclean all swearing and cussing and streaming out into Penistone Road. "Ohhhh ... thaaa't fuckin' yoouusless!" "Fuckin' RUBBISH!" "Nahden (whoever their manager was) thar should fuckin' resign!"

I fucking hate Sheffield Wednesday.

pommpey
v Fulham in December 1973? There was a photo in the Green Un the following week of Wednesday fans holing a banner that either said "Rubbish" or "Boo"

Pele played for Santos at S6 in October 1962 also in February 1972 (I went to the latter)
