Berge

It's clear that being further forward suits Berge. And on the right side, not sure why you'd have him on the left.

Main thing for me is he now needs some recovery time before Saturday. Lets hope these 2 matches haven't knocked any confidence.

I love Berge & think he’s quality for us, but still now you can see why he’s not at a top top team like his initial reputation suggested he would.

He fades in and out of games constantly & can be sloppy in possession from time to time that has put us under pressure in games this season.

Don’t get me wrong he brings so much more to the team, but I’m not sure if I was Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd etc (teams looking for a central midfielder) he would be the answer. Especially when we’re wanting £20m plus

One of Berge's best qualities is being able to shield the ball with his left hand side while dragging the ball from almost behind him into a striding motion with his right foot.

Obviously impossible to do if playing on the left, what Solbakken is thinking...god only knows 🤷‍♂️

Wife told me It was Club Brugge who tried to buy him, chelsea tried to get him on loan in the window but we refused to let him leave. He is seemingly running down his contract so we need some success soon or we may have to sell to recoup some of his value
Heard different to that mate, although I know from past posts that your wife is in the know on lots of things, so you could be spot on with it. I got told that a deal had been agreed with a London based team (I thought he said Arsenal, but you’ve thrown me with Chelsea) that we had a player lined up to come in from abroad, but Sander wanted to stay, he said he was settled and liked it here, so the deal didn’t go through. Also the fee he said was no where near the fee being banded about that we’d sell him for, he said low double figures had been agreed. Not sure how true it is but it came from a mate who’s friends with someone who works within that area at the club. I hoping it is my mate who’s got it right as I really liked the idea that Sander wanted to stay, so don’t spoil it for me😁

Berge literally said this week he has been living in a hotel out of a suitcase waiting to see if deal would be completed... Not saying he's 'unsettled' but wanting to stay is a bit of a push...

If you look at Liverpool, Manc’s Chelsea etc to win the League&champions league they are shopping for Bellingham etc, or established top end performers such as DeJong

Berge isn’t in this bracket, never will be imo
He’s good for us, maybe 8-12th prem at a push, but he’s no KDB or Kante

He’d have become the new Ross Barkley, played a few games then when injured lads are back left rotting in reserves or loans before moving on a free having wasted a few years of his career

Look at who Liverpool did sign on loan, Arthur - gremio, Barca (38m) & Juve (£72m), won copa America with Brazil and Klopp is already looking at sending him back.

If he does go to PL without us I reckon Everton or Wolves would be about his level

With football being show business away from the pitch, Berge will know that he now has to turn it on in order to gain appreciation again…or at least this is what I hope.

With negativity being cast upon his name, I hope he utilises his time in a blades short to prove the doubters wrong.

If we go up he'll sign a new deal. Incentive on both sides.

I don't think he will. Regardless of promotion, I reckon we'll be selling Berge this Summer.
He's been here a long time now and I get the feeling he'd probably like a new challenge, preferably with European football attached.

For me either way if it was Arsenal or Chelsea if it was a loan deal to permanent which was reported in the press, that has got to be the one of the most shit house of moves by any club, unless they were offering a player and cash in exchange not surprising that it wasn't even considered. Least he can get a rest when the World Cup is on, not sure if there are any plans for a mid-season friendly or even a training camp to somewhere like Portugal again for warm weather training, as the vast majority of the squad will be available for that time and would make sense to utilise a warmer climate facility if they can.

Not exactly ancient, but he is 25 in Feb isn't he?
Accepted and admitted! He’s still plenty young enough. I get it that he is ambitious, and we are not, yet, automatic for Euro competition.
The big problem for him, comes if his national manager exposes a potential weakness, by playing him on the left?

I agree…

He was living in a hotel and his bags were packed, he was pretty much set to go.

I like that he is a professional and that he doesn’t kick up a fuss, instead he just knuckles down and gets on with his game. But with all the rumours and interest that he has had in him, he must be thinking about the clubs mentioned and the level of football associated with them.

Also, Berge has 1 goal for Norway in 30 games. Ødegaard 2 in 45. Without goal scorers there's a lot of pressure on Haaland. Teams would say mark Haaland at all times and Norway won't score. Yesterday Norway had Elyounoussi (9 in 47) and Sørloth (15 in 44) backing up Haaland.

Berge has 18 career goals in 234 games (according to Transfermarkt) but 9 of those goals have come in his 37 league games under Heckingbottom where he's had a more attacking role. Take those goals out and he's on 9 in 197 games or around 1 in 20, so not a million miles off his Norweigan returns. Maybe if Solbakken played him further up the pitch he'd be more effective? Presumably the same is true of Ødegaard: his goalscoring return for his country is adversely affected by the role he's being asked to fulfil. That said, I don't know what alternatives Solbakken has for the central midfield roles so maybe playing Berge and Ødegaard out of position is the best answer.

I can see him going to a club like Arsenal or Chelsea. It would be a bit of a gamble for both sides, but a decent move for him, and whichever London club wins the bidding contest.
The really major irony here, is if the Blades do win promotion to the PL, the price for Berge won’t be the big issue for the club!

Sander Berge is playing well for us. if we are still top of the league in January. he is best staying with us. then see where we are at the end of the season.

Agreed. If we did get promoted and he stayed, I can't see him signing a new contract because as we've just seen, there are plenty of top clubs willing to sign him, just not for the price of his release clause. He could stay for an extra season in the prem should we get there, then get a bumper contract as a free agent at the end of the season, relegation or not. I think the club would therefore sell him regardless at the end of this season for whatever they can get.

I disagree. If we got promoted he could sign a new contract with a substantial pay rise but cover himself with a "get out of jail" card should we be relegated, and include other clauses such as a champions league qualifier making a bid of £ X million etc. All things are possible.

When Berge gets on the ball in the final third and runs at and past a defender he is absolutely unplayable..…..

..the issue is he doesn’t do it enough, and also that he seems convinced in his own mind his best position is in a deeper holding role.. it isn’t.
No he doesn’t, quite the contrary. He was bought for that as a player when we were flying high in the premier league as he could play the ball like Norwood but releasing pressure by running forward with the ball because of his strength on it. Time changes and so do leagues and so can his position. Hecky has changed his role, which sander believes is now his favoured role. Hecky sometimes plays him in another rolle sometimes as a tactical switch which is necessitated but knowingly weakens attacking threat. The above is fact.

Not an over reaction (said it all summer) but if he doesn't want to be here and just turns up every couple of games I'd cash in on him. 20m would do, that's if anyone would buy him for that?

If Berge was a 35m player he would perform every game in this league..

Kid was knackered. Should've been rotated. Baldock and Bogle was gambled with two. All three come off injured. Naive.
