CONFIRMED Berge to Burnley

1) think it's daft that we're selling to a relegation rival.

2) think is astonishing that Sander would go to Burnley when he must be on a solid wage already and can have his pick in a years' time.

3) I love the big bastard, but let's be honest, he doesn't really change results and as someone above states, if it means we can look at a combination of O'Brien, Doyle and Souza coming in, fair enough.

4) that 'if' has a fucking massive pinch of salt.

Exactly. Ndiaye and Berge got us to where we needed to be. Rather not lose him for free end of the season

I think we have known for ages that neither were signing new deals. Berge needed to be offloaded earlier in the summer if that was the case.

I understand us having another go at getting Ndiaye to sign.

What the hell was the point in keeping both N’diaye and Berge just to get rid once we’re promoted. No matter how you spin it they’re a number of bizarre decisions which have been made and this one tops it for me.
Because they are truly in the pole position when it comes to it,they want to leave so could stay be unhappy and play shite till contract is up in 12mths ,or we take the money unhappy player leaves and hopefully reinvest fee towards a player who wants to play or us and whose on contract for a few years maybe

Using them to get promoted rather than selling them early.
Fair enough, but we’ve sold them significantly under market value because of their contract positions. So we’re gonna struggle to replace their quality with the fees we sold them for. To me, for the last few seasons the lack of investment into the playing squad has been criminal and it’s why we found ourselves in this position today.

Personally don't believe in this big European clamour for Berge, after all last summer it was Club Brugge he was supposedly going to.

He's just not THAT good, he's too hot and cold, has struggled in the Championship a lot at times, still hasn't really proven himself in the Premier League either.

Only hope now is that we've some serious irons in the fire to bring in 4 or 5 first team quality players. No more back up/development players, we need a first team ffs.
Don't hold your breath !!!

If this is true then we are screwed. One thing selling Iliman to his boyhood team but selling Berge to Burnley, is an absolute joke!

Why would any self-respecting player now sign for club thats selling all its best players (and to direct rivals) when they will have a relegation clause in their contract!

So we're 5 days out from the new season, and now we're looking at overhauling the midfield. This is worse than when our tactics were for everything to go through Kevin McDonald, then sold him 1 game into the season.

Feel for Hecky, he's already said about Slimane not quite being up to speed yet with how we play so how the fuck is a brand new midfield going to fare when we have a relatively favourable August and a golden opportunity to pick up points early

Because Princey has now got the premier league money, so they are surplus to requirements.

But we all knew this would be the case, so why not sell them whilst we had a stronger negotiating position? That way we could’ve recouped larger fees.

Selling them a week before our first game in the Prem, and no replacements imminent doesn’t put us on a good footing for the upcoming season.

I've never seen a club be so needlessly combative with its supporters since Cardiff started wearing Red.

Imagine taking all the goodwill, optimism and hope we had following promotion and then just fucking it all off and cashing in without reinvesting the money made.

What the actual fuck is happening

Wow, this is just crazy.

Berge to Burnley, I thought he had ambishun. It just doesn't make sense on any level, unless he has seen the total mess we are in & wants out to anywhere, but he didn't seem the type to me.

And why the fuck would we let him go without getting at least one replacement in

If this happens it makes my last post in the "beat Derby thread" redundant.

This really. I think hand on heart we probably all knew this was likely, we're not in a place just to let some of our biggest assets leave on a free. But why leave it so fucking late? We're now scrabbling around, every other club knows it and we'll get completely screwed in negotiations.
And now clubs know we've got money, it ruins Princeys only negotiating tactic - pretend we're skint so clubs can't ask too much.

Another example to add to the long list at how badly the club is being run.
The problem you have is this:

- you either make a reasonable attempt to sort out this issue now when the likes of N'Diaye and Berge are still in contract and have value and you can reinvest the cash on players that will then be contracted for a good while

- or you kick the can down the road, potentially post relegation and without the cash.

I guess this falls into the mantra of you can't make an omelette without breaking any eggs.

Even if we had more money, we'd be faced with losing valued assets for nothing. We don't have enough valued assets right now perhaps to risk losing those two for zip.

If this happens I have to believe we've got 4 players already signed and just waiting to be announced.

Otherwise this is the straw that breaks the camels back. We play Man City in under three weeks and Silva, De Bruyne and Grealish will be up against Osborn, Norwood and Slimane. I feel sick.

As a distant observer:

No it’s not normal to sell your best players when you were promoted to the richest league in the world collecting 100mio in tv money plus all the gate receipts and commercial income.

Yes it’s very bad ownership that you did not bring in 1 single established PL player to strengthen the squad by now. There should have been at least 4 or 5 real enforcements through the door by now.

All due to a deluded owner who thought it was a good idea for his ego to own 5 football clubs whereas he could barely support 1 club at lower league level properly.

We have to replace Berge (and Ndiaye) now. To replace both at close to their combined quality will cost us more financially, but also in lost time. That’s assuming we can even attract anyone to join in the first place.

We’ve also pretty much sealed our relegation and the vast fortunes of PL money.

Is there any argument here for PA recouping some funds with zero intention of replacing key players. Sheffield United Way mentioned in the call that the club is in advance stages of being sold (albeit a caveat of PA being OK with the idea of still being involved with the club). Is there any sort of safeguarding in place of owners selling players and bank rolling those funds before a sale?

He trains with the squad so he will know more than anyone what talents we have.

I'd expect Egan to want to go now, would you blame him?

Whoever can escape in a lifeboat from this sinking ship would be a wise man unfortunate to say.
