It'll be pretty fucking poor if we can't get this one done today. Same for Henderson.

There's only one friendly left after tomorrow.

Agree, but I suppose Henderson knows the group well, so he won't need much settling in time.

Agreed - it should have been tied up a while ago. We still haven’t signed the much needed goalscorer either. Sure CW said he wanted to do his business early.

I can understand McBurnie taking a while.

I can understand the GK2/RWB/RCB/RCM positions not being close yet because they're not urgent.

I can understand why Henderson has been delayed, because Man Utd have collective brain damage. But at least he knows the squad.

But I can't really see why Osborn's taken this long - especially after agreeing a fee. It should be as straightforward a signing as we can make.

Unless you’re suggesting that they’re going slowly with this signing on purpose (and why would they?) then I’m sure there’s a good reason.

That is really the point.... We are running out of time to give these lads a run out before the season kicks off.

That’s why I was surprised we didn’t see anything of mousset against chesterfield either.

Let’s get it over the line and the concentrate on getting the cherry on the cake done in another forward.

We really should be paying some of you lot to conduct our transfer dealings as (despite never having worked in football transfers and contracts presumably), you're clearly better than Bettis and the team of professionals we have in place.

Now excuse me while I go tell NASA how to get a manned shuttle to Mars and then explain to a brain surgeon the best way to transplant a cerebellum from a willing donor.

Football transfers it itself arent complex. They are not full of complex technicalities or legal bespoke wording or clawback clauses (as an aside one of my mates is currently an asst manager at a football league club so i have a general awareness of this subject matter though he never discusses confidential issues or information to his credit). We certainly are not talking about NASA calculations or queens counsel.

What does complicate and take time is the constantly changing demands of either the selling club, the player, or the players representatives, along with the fact that quite understandably, it can become a game of brinksmanship as all parties are trying to negotiate the best possible deal for themselves (or their client). They will also sometimes play the field or hold off on on a potential deal on the basis that something better could arise shortly (i.e such as the Maupay proposed deal).

Personal reasons such as players potentially having to move home or uproot the family, and these also have to be factored in as well as the financial side of things. It is the human element that holds up transfers, not the technicalities behind it.

I'm sure Bettis will be delighted to have had his role compared with that of a rocket scientist or brain surgeon. He should get that stuck on his CV ASAP.

Unfortunately everyone knows we have £100m + and they’re all doing their utmost to screw what they can out of us. It’s a cost of getting promoted

From the O/S:

Summer signing number six is in the building... Ben Osborn is a Blade.
"We are delighted that he is a Sheffield United player," said boss Chris Wilder, who has swooped into the Championship for a third time for a signing following similar moves for Luke Freeman and Callum Robinson.

"He's been a fantastic player for Forest in the Championship and I know for certain that two or three clubs in January were sniffing around to take him. He's got a lot of attributes that will help us, going forward, and we're looking forward to him pulling on a red and white shirt.
"Ben is an intelligent footballer, he plays a number of positions and has got that attitude that he will slot in wherever. But he'll want to nail down a position and he's going to put enormous pressure on a few of our players who might think they're cemented into the team and that's how it's got to be, I've said all along, it raises everybody's standards. We are putting together a group that's got to be competitive in arguably the best division in the world.
"We're not getting flustered with people talking about where we are getting our players from, we're delighted with the work we've done, I'm really excited and seeing the players we've got in the building already, from Jags to the likes of Ravel (Morrison), Lys Mousset, Callum Robinson, Luke Freeman and now Ben Osborn."
Derby-born Osborn started his career with the Rams, before joining Forest's Academy at the age of nine. Deployed mainly as a left-back during his first season in the U18s, Osborn was voted the Reds Academy Player of the Year, earning himself a new contract in the process in April 2012.
Osborn was promoted to Forest's first team and made his debut in March 2014 against Ipswich Town.
Capped by England at various youth levels, Osborn has become one of the Championship most consistent performers in his position and offers versatility.
During his decade at the City Ground, Osborn has made over 200 appearances, scoring 15 goals.
Osborn signs a three year deal after an undisclosed fee was agreed with Nottingham Forest.

Sensible signing. Look forward to seeing how he plays and other upping their game in response.

Pleased with this.

Decent options in a number of positions and I’ve a sneaky position he might just nail down a position and be one of the signings of the summer

Cringeworthy. Do they think that's what we like? Do they think that sounds good?

But anyway, #WelcomeBen, GLTTL etc.

Glad it's finally done.

Can he play tomorrow? Don't see why not.
I prefer it to all this trying to be clever let’s pretend it’s a retro video game shit.

Here he is in various Blades shirts, here is he shaking hands with the gaffer. Job done.

So every signing takes 2 days to confirm because of these stupid shirt 'sponsor showing' videos.
