The thread that Revolution did last season very interesting:
, however, he's decided not to do it again this year so I thought I'd have a crack... Hope you don't mind Rev??

Unlike last season, I'll include all outfield players in the thread.

As with Rev's, it includes league goals only.

We ended 2021/22 season like this:
Oli McBurnie 40 games, last goal v Leicester 2020-21
John Fleck 30 games, last goal v Peterborough 2021-22
Rhys Norrington-Davies 22 games, no league goals
Ben Osborn 22 games, last goal v Barnsley 2021-22
Ollie Burke 15 games, last goal v Man Utd 2020-21
Luke Freeman 15 games, no league goals
Daniel Jebbison 10 games, last goal v Everton 2020-21

4 of the 7 are still on the list. 2 of the 7 have been sold. The other player is McBurnie.

Here is the current status post-Blackpool:
Chris Basham 115 games, (Leeds 2018/19)
John Egan 53 games (Hull 2021/22)
John Fleck 36 games, (Peterborough 2021/22)
Rhys Norrington-Davies 36 games, (No league goals)
Jack O'Connell 35 games (Ipswich 2018/19)
Ben Osborn 27 games (Barnsley 2021/22)
George Baldock 21 games, (Swansea 2021/22)
Daniel Jebbison 14 games, (Everton 2020/21)
Billy Sharp 12 games (Middlesbrough 2021/22)
Tommy Doyle 10 games (No league goals)

Nice one mate, like these. Shame Revolution is a lazy bastard!

Dont mind a goal drought as long it'sfor the opposition!

Give Bash the next pen. And has it really been 53 games since Egan scored 2 at Hull, dunt seem that long ago does it?

I certainly do not mind. Go for it!

Fans of my posts will no doubt be intrigued to learn that I actually spent a good period of time writing something else for this season as an ongoing thing but after doing the research I didn’t like the end product. I might resurrect it in some form or another during the World Cup hiatus.

Here is the current status post-Coventry:

Chris Basham 116 games, (Leeds 2018/19)
John Egan 54 games (Hull 2021/22)
John Fleck 37 games, (Peterborough 2021/22)
Rhys Norrington-Davies 37 games, (No league goals)
Jack O'Connell 35 games (Ipswich 2018/19)

116 games for Bash, and considering he goes up for let's say an average of 7 corners/set pieces a game...

That's 805 times he's been in an attacking set piece position without scoring...
He is pretty terrible in the air tbf so that one doesn't surprise me. He could be the only outfield player in the box from a corner and I'd not back him to generate enough power/direction on the header to beat a keeper. Obviously his last goal was the 'Basham's arriving one', has he actually scored a header for us?

Egan's is a worse stat, he's regularly the target from set pieces, especially corners and wins his fair share of headers in the opposition box. His knack of heading it straight to the keeper is astounding. If it's not directly down the keepers throat it's wide/over.

Fleck, RND (when playing at LWB) and Baldock is nowhere near good enough either as they're players that routinely get forward.

Baldock's decision making in the final third is the reason why he's at United, excellent in most areas of being a wing-back, but is regularly let down by his indecisiveness/slowness of thought when approaching the opposition box.

I can't recall a towering Chris Basham header from a corner like say the AA one from a while ago (back when we looked like world beaters).

There must have been a header at some point, even a crappy one off a rebound or a second ball but as we well know, Basham is usually better at heading other people than the ball 🤕

To put it into some perspective, I've had 2 kids since Chris Basham last scored a goal for us!

Doesn’t Fleck v Forest in the play-offs count, me old marrow?

There was one away at Bradford (2014/2015 I think) where he headed it backwards but that went down as an Own goal

Basham scored 4 times in the 2018/19 promotion season and 2 of them were headers:

Rotherham away, drew 2-2
Preston home, won 3-2

It's really got to count.

Genuine question but aren’t play-offs a league game? It’s the Championship play-offs for me but appreciate it’s up for debate.

Oooh, see now you've got me thinking. I wanted to put Fleck down for a goal but considered the Play Offs to be a cup game.

I've checked Brennan Johnson's stats from last year...
www.whoscored.com have him at 18 goals
www.worldfootball.net have him at 16 goals

This was Revolution 's thing, he can have the deciding call... Fleck's goal in Play Offs - count or not ??

Playoffs are not a league game, unfortunately for Fleck.

And I will die on this hill.

Here is the current status post-Norwich:

Genuine question, similar theme:

2 players competing for golden boot. One finishes the regular season with 25 goals and his team goes up automatically. The other finishes with 24 but his team goes into the Play offs. He scores twice in them and ends up with 26 for the season.

Who gets the golden boot? Hardly the fault of the first player that his team was too good to extend the season by two or three extra games.

Any idea?

That's the analogy 👏🏼

The one with 25 in the league. Playoff goals do not count as the games aren’t league games.

On a happier note - reading Goal …..Basham ….. Leeds has given me a warm fuzzy feeling and a big smile. That goal is now in The Blades DNA.
Yes. there's a part of me wants him to play forever and never score again just so that when I read the goal drought thread I'll always start with a smile.
