Quick intro - I'm new to the Forum but have been reading the threads for a while. I have followed the Blades since I was a kid and my first real recollection is Edwards scoring the winner against Wigan in 82. Great days!
Enough of that stuff - I'm currently working in Baghdad ( I'm ex army/ bomb disposal) training and working with the Iraqi Army - they are great lads, very brave and love football. Yet they have very little. I made them watch our win against Gillingham on a very dodgy stream - they loved it - and I ve converted them to Blades fans. I ll be giving them some of my old football shirts on my next trip.
Just thought I'd let you know that the Blades are alive in Baghdad!!

That's good news and the blades are alive and well in Bagdad because of you and Wilder.

Bloody good job Clough or Adkins are not our leader then

Given your job, hopefully you are a safer pair of hands than George Long was earlier this season!

Welcome to the forum, thanks for your service.

Better they be blades, the world has enough Man Utd fans.

The Iraqis are great people and and they love the Brits. This is where the critical fight against IS will be won (inshallah) over the next few months.

The Iraqis asked me 'are the Blades as big as Man United and City?'

I obviously replied 'Bigger'

No buddy! Have read it though!

It's strange but looking at the forums when you are away makes you feel like you re at home. I can't wait for Saturdays and trying to get updates - makes the time fly!

Reason I ask is I thought we had another Baghdad Blade poster on there, but I must be mistaken

Welcome buddy and enjoy your stay on here. Let's hope for a decent outcome to the season for once.

There are some huge Blades in Baghdad:

Nice one ,my boys just got a season ticket and hes getting posted to Nigeria next week to train their troops to fight Boko Haram. They have a guard to guard the guards who are training only 3 at a time such are the problems with recruits blue on blue killings. Anyway we will have Nigerian Blades too from next week :) Be safe x

Good to hear from you Baghdad Blade. Hope you and your colleagues stay safe and are soon back home with your loved ones.

Just to add...I too have a couple of old Blades shirts that I'd willingly donate to your Iraqi Blades supporters club.

I got an enormous amount of pride reading the OP, try to keep in touch rambo and pass on our regards to the iraqi blades and tell them we are proud to be associated with them, how about a photo at some point wearing the shirt, good luck pal.

Big respect to you!

You should definitely get in touch with someone at the club about trying to get a shirt drive at a home game or just at the club shop where people can drop off old Blades shirts for you to take out before you go back!
