I just realised that exactly 56 years ago today the Blades beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Ewood Park.
A friend and I made the trip over the Pennines by SUT coach. There were several coaches that day taking a large contingent of Blades fans to the game.
When we got inside the ground we stood behind one of the goals near a large group of Blades when suddenly a large group of Blackburn fans charged at us. They were mostly young scruffy looking kids and my mate and I stood our ground as the Blades fans, also mainly kids ran past us pursued by the Blackburn fans. I was wearing my Blades scarf at the time but none of the home fans made any attempt to attack me.
A few minutes passed and a large group of older bigger Blades fans arrived and they immediately chased the Blackburn fans off. United were attacking the goal at the opposite end of the ground. It was possible to walk round to that end, so the Blades fans started to move as the teams lined up. As we did the game kicked off and straight away Blackburn attacked and won a penalty from which they scored (I think Hodgy brought their player down).
United straight away took the game to Blackburn and before half time Woodward equalised.
We moved back to the other end for the second half and Currie scored the winning goal to send us all wild.
The team that day was Hodgkinson, Badger, Hemsley, Barlow, Colquhoun, Flynn,
Woodward, Currie, Addison, Salmons, Reece.
Obviously it was a great trip back and we
were home in time to see highlights on one of the Blades rare appearances on Match of the Day.
Great memories of a great team.

Always used to be fun at those Lancashire grounds. Always a little watching squad outside the rail stations.

Think it was this one where Blackburn's finest held our coach up until 20 mins after kick-off and proceeded to "pat" down everyone going in. If you wore dockers the laces were taken and anything resembling an "offensive" weapon was confiscated (including combs). Got in about 15 mins before half time. They kept is in at the end of the game for an age.
