Use it to buy Mepham. Then imagine a back three of Anel, Souttar, Mepham. More than enough to compete at the top of the division. Shame we’re insisting on playing this weird system.
I doubt we're going to a back three anytime soon though Seth. Not with the number of wide players we'll have after this window. It doesn't add up in the formation to have a neck three again.

If we've rejected 5m we must be trying to sabotage ourselves

Absolutely fucking unbelievable especially given there's so little time left. We deserve Celtic to turn around and walk away

Are our new owners trebling the valuation because he's American or something?

If Celtic or anyone were willing to go anywhere near 5m he should have been gone by July 1st. But we clearly don't value giving ourselves time to carry out a vast and demanding rebuild. And here we are, now gambling our season on things dropping our way in the last 3 days of the window

The same source says they’ve upped their bid again already

Would think 6.5m seals it leaving 4m to recruit a LCD and Johnston

What a stupid post.!

i think were after 6m then we will sell i can see mepham coming in and not certain but i think hes played left side centre back for bournemouth could be wrong though ps whats harry maguire up to hes right footed and can play lcb 🤔

But if someone is willing to pay it, then he’s worth it.
To risk 5m for the sake of pushing for 5.5m or whatever it is, for fucking Trusty, with 3 days left, is madness

We might get away with it but Celtic might end up walking away..... which we shouldn't be risking because honestly, who else is likely to come in for him at anywhere near these figures

I credit our new ability to push for higher fees. But as I said before this is the clearest 'take the money and run' I've ever seen for United

What if we sell him and get anyone else in ourselves. Is it still madness then? I hope he goes abd we've got a ready made improved replacement with the money lined up to sign 5 minutes after but is that likely. It's also gone pretty quiet on Anel which is very surprising. There could be a last minute twist there don't want to be left relying on RND till January.

I think push for as much as you can get at the end of the window.

Neither you or I know the ins and outs of selling Trusty.

First offers are usually rejected

We don’t know how that conversation went…
We could have said… no not £5m we were thinking more like £7m and Celtic said we’ll come back with a revised bid and meet in the middle. It may not have been a flat rejection

There is a player in there. He’s young, tall, quick, athletic and left footer who won player of the season for his club at championship level while being the joint top goal scoring defender with Anel. He’s now got a seasons appearances in the premier league under his belt. These types are player are worth millions now a days.

We also don’t know the financial implications. We paid a reported £5m for him. What if he’s now hit an appearance add on and we’ve paid more than that so aren’t willing to take a loss

We might have someone lined up for £5m but once agent and signing on fees are included we need £6m to complete that deal

We just don’t know. But luckily Bettis seems to be doing a cracking job this summer so I’m inclined to leave it to him.

You seem keen to sell everyone for the first bid

What is this obsession certain people have with Mepham he has played about 61 games in the last 5 years.

There seems to be a mentality that you're entitled to not make a loss on players

When you get it horribly wrong, as we have with Trusty, you deserve to take a loss, and should expect to

We may well need 6m to do something else but that doesn't change what Trusty's worth

He's not quick and athletic either. He's just not particularly unathletic. And I think we can overestimate the significance of being one of the better performers in a team as shit as Birmingham's. I couldn't believe it at the time that we'd signed him to be our PL LCB. Seen nothing whatsoever, at any point, to change my mind. The only positive I can come up with is that he uses his weaker foot a bit

I know I seem keen to sell sell sell. LOL. But I just want to see us extract a good amount of value from our squad while we can because a lot of these players will only decline in value, quite significantly, while contributing little on the pitch. We can't be complacent with this

‘Extract a good amount of value’ - yet you would take lower fees for almost everyone we are looking to sell- Souza, Anel, Trusty..
Bet you’d accept 15mill for Hamer and the same for Arblaster the way you go on.

I'd take realistic fees that are more than what we'll get in a years time for players I don't believe will contribute to getting us promoted or who can be replaced for the same cost or less

I wouldn't sell Hamer or Arblaster now. I've just said that 18m is as much as we'd ever get for Hamer if we were to sell him. Taking it would be no disgrace but the timing would be bad, Leeds would be even worse

Pretty funny that they’ve offered £500k more for Trusty since they’re now supposedly getting £500k more for Johnston from another club 😅

im not obsessed with him by the way just that it has been widely rumoured that were considering bringing mepham in

You're a weird guy

Our entire transfer window has been an eye opener for me and this one (assuming true) encapsulates it.

With the eye test, I really don’t rate trusty. He seems like a decent sort and he’s tall/athletic with a decent touch for a Center back. But if I was a scout I wouldn’t go near him. He lacks composure, positioning and aggression - three things I would say are critical for a CB.

But there must be something in the data that shows he is a high potential player. There’s no way a club the size of Celtic are looking at him without some stats to back it up. His age must be one thing. But what else?

Btw I’m not saying let’s sell him on the cheap just because I don’t rate him. More a comment on how modern recruitment works. I’m shocked we’ve got our money back for last year’s signings. But we have, so maybe buying young players based on potential isn’t much a great risk.
I didn't rate DCL & couldn't believe he went to Everton 😆

Take it you don't play poker or have ever bought a carpet in a souck 😆
