Now that Hamer is likely to be sold, that means nearly all his signings have subsequently left us.

Of all the players we paid a fee for, as far as I can tell we either broke even or made a profit on the transfer fees.

Anel Ahmedhodic - Profit
Anis Slimane - Broke Even
Bénie Traoré - Broke Even
Auston Trusty - Possible profit
Vinícius Souza - Possible profit
Gustavo Hamer - Broke Even
Tom Davies - free
Cameron Archer - Broke even
Ivo Grbić - Probable loss, but we aren't sure who actually signed this one off.

Whilst we never know the full details, I think that's quite the transfer record given our limited funds under the previous ownership.

Cameron Archer we returned for a "refund" and made a loss.

Has that kind of fake loan / buy back transfer loophole been closed off yet?

He also developed the career of Ndiaye significantly and got £20m+ for him.

That's because Hecky is a very good football man. He recognized good players at good value. He was also tactically very good.

What he didn't have was support when he got us promoted, he had to shop in the bargain bins(and still did well), but got chucked under a bus by the board.

I have the utmost respect for him.

If Selles does get the bullet, getting Hecky back wouldn't be a bad shout at all.

That first line up of the season against Palace showed just how much Hecky had been shafted.

It reminded me of the old football manager games where if you had an absolute pony team the board expectations at the start of the season would be ‘improve the club squad’ - not even attempt to survive, the ultimate white flag waving scenario.

He was on an absolute hiding to nothing after achieving exactly what he set out to do the season before.

I similarly share your respect for him and will always wish him well. I think the players liked him a lot too which is something that Selles appears* to be struggling with.

*clearly we don’t know this to actually be the case but the body language isn’t great

Hamer looked supportive of Selles yesterday though, when Selles faced down the travelling support, so perhaps things aren't as bad as they're being painted on here (with regard to player support).

Maybe the players are just trying to understand what Selles wants to do and are struggling to do that?

I think that's part of it. There may be some dissenting voices, and perhaps that's why JLT might be in his way.

It is a completely different way of playing though (and I'm not enjoying it either ATM), and probably the players don't get it either - although they did in pre-season 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Maybe it is Robbo causing the unrest?

You make some food points especially when you consider Grbic was signed under Wilder and not Hecky.

It’s a shame we were so short of cash. We were getting hammered but you could argue we could have opted to take it all on the chin and keep Hecky. Understand why the Prince tried something but it was harsh given he wasn’t given the tools though I do feel at the top level he left us too open.

Maybe he could have accepted Ndiaye leaving and just had McAtee take his role, rather than play two up top like he did at times.

The one criticism I have of Hecky is that he seems to be married to the 3-5-2 formation. At least Wilder tried something different after his return.

Other than that, I really do miss Hecky.

How was Grbic a Heckingbottom signing?

Like I’ve said many times - that guy deserves a statue

The elephant in the room here is that only Anel, Hamer and (for one season) Souze helped us on the pitch. As players they were dismal failures on the whole.

And we don't seem to be using the money very well at the moment.

Disagree…with Hecky in charge we’d have broken all sorts of records as the worse ever. We certainly wouldn’t have broke double points, however don’t think we’d have been thrashed as much either.

With Hecky he’d have focussed more on defence and we’d have lost 2 and 3-0 every week.

When Wilder came we took more risks trying to win, so were more likely to be thrashed 5-0. However at least with Wilder we easily bettered Derby’s low points record. Also it needed a change. Hecky interviews were shockingly uninspirational, think he knew from day 1 we had no chance and this transferred over to the players.
