All time favorite blade

Tough one as you've got to think about ability, heart and the team they played in.

For me it is Deano, I'm a little too young to remember Currie, if Sabella had stayed longer he'd have been a challenger and you've got to mention Billy, Whitehouse, Bradders and Ward for their Blades connections, commitment and ability.

Ndiaye had as much ability as any of them but not here long enough

Basham is probably my favourite based on consistency (other than his first season and the promotion season).

Other than that I normally have a favourite Blade of the season. Honourable mentions include Jon Harley, Derek Geary, James Beattie.

Of my lifetime, Chris Morgan. Closely followed by Michael Brown, Derek Geary, George Baldock and Jack O’Connell.

Currently? Gus Hamer.

Tony Currie brought me the greatest joy to watch.
Never forget the time he sat on the ball during the match with Arsenal,
to get back at Alan Ball, who had humiliated us earlier in the season at Highbury

Billy tugged the heart strings the most. Both for his strength and his vulnerability.

Billy Sharp. The way he conducted himself. Very clever player as well, especially in his later years.

Deano, all round lovely bloke, what a player as well.

Iliman. Never seen a player like him, we usually praise the never say die, cult players. But he had it all. Really hope he still goes to the very top.

I’m 56 so Currie and Woodward had both left by the time I was 10 and don’t remember much of them, but I’ve had the fortune to meet both and TC was a nice chap, and Woody, what a gent. Had a brief chat with him at the 125 anniversary thing at Pond’s Forge and he was everything you could have hoped for and more. Still had a twinkle in his eyes, and was still passionate about United.
Honourable mentions to Len Badger and Ted Hensley, more gentlemen.

For what they did on the pitch when I was watching regularly, Brian Deane and Billy Sharp. As much as I loved watching Delano I think Billy just shades it for being one of us. After all, Billy Sharp scores goals. Still doing it too.

HRH The LORD Sir Christopher Paul Basham.

Been going to the lane since 1994, and no other player comes close for me. From a jobbing, average at best L1 midfielder, to a powerhouse, revolutionary (overlapping) Premier League central defender.

Once he found his proper position, he just got better and better, up through the divisions, never looking out of place at any level, while all the time remaining a thoroughly relatable everyman sort of persona. The clip (I can't find it now, someone else will) of him skinning tens of millions of pounds' worth of Man City midfield is possibly my favourite ever football clip. He looked like Bambi on ice, but he knew exactly what he was doing.

I was genuninely gutted when he had his horror injury. Such an awful way for his career to end.

For me, he epitomised what it is to be a Blade. No-nonsense, hard in the tackle, but blessed with a criminally underrated amount of skill as well. His highlight is obviously when he "arrived" at Elland Road, but I loved watching him throughout his time at the lane.

Adopted sheffielder par-exellance. There's only one Bashambauer.

My cousin took me to see Sheff Utd v Cardiff and we stood behind the goal. He told me to shout something like "hello Hodgy" and to my surprise he waved and shouted "hi" back! That was when I became a Blades supporter despite living in Twickenham!
His rapport with supporters, as we were known then, was second-to-none. And by this I mean football supporters, as he always communicated with the crowd behind the goal, whichever team they supported. Loved your story.
