All going a bit too well?

No, I don't see us selling Fleck

I get it now, you were responding to the OP saying Fleck might be leaving. I didn’t think you were the sort of poster who would have a dig at Wilder, that’s why I was questioning it.

I'm a pessimist by nature (I'm not sure what supporting this club would do to an optimist), but everything seems to be going too well.

We have the derby in 2 days, are favourites going into it, and have signed 3 players ahead of it.

I'm not at all comfortable going into the game as favourites, as it's not a game known for going to form. They have a new manager in (which is a concern), dreadful form and loads of injuries. Our form isn't good, but better.

Im terms of the squad, the strength in midfield now looks a little worrying. Hard to believe that Lundstram (5th when Coutts is back) will be 4th choice after doing so well lately. Worried that Fleck might be leaving.

Apologies for the blathering, I'm incredibly nervous already. I hate these games.

Actually I’m feeling totally the opposite.
As I’ve said before I hate the derby, but these signing have almost reduced the significance on the result to a meh should we not win.
I still want to win, and I mean really want to win, but the players brought in give me a lot of confidence that the actual 3 points won’t make or break us and we’ll be fine for the playoffs regardless.
Great signings and I don’t think we’re done yet, so we’re looking stronger all the time, and the busy Christmas period is now well behind us.
Bring on the next 20 games, and let’s see which highly budgeted teams are really up for it.

I don't see Fleck going anywhere just yet but should he go then we have just signed 2 bloody good CMs on long contracts. 2 players who could be our starting pairing next season anyway, or maybe not.
The holy trinity won't be together forever, 1 of them is bound to move on at some point so it's just about having the quality to evolve onto the next chapter.

As for Friday, who knows. What I will say is that I was confident going into September's game and if anything even more now stacks in our favour. It's going to take a hell of a performance and no shortage of luck for them to bust the coupons I think but stranger things have happened.

The squad isn't big.

We play 2 in midfield so 4 mids means we have cover for both positions.

We play 2 up top so having 4 strikers means we have enough cover.

Carruthers, Whiteman and Lavery will go out.

Brooks, Fleck etc. Will stay - unless it's silly money.

We've turned a corner, we won't splash crazy cash but we won't sell at the drop of hat either. It's a good time to be a blade.

If we are offered £20m for Brooks and £8m to £10m for Fleck it would be difficult not to accept and it would be difficult to argue with them if they did.

But why the need to sell both if that's the case? Just sell one.

CW would think he's wasting his time if that's all we are about. To get to the PL we need to keep our best players, just ask CW

This nervous bit of the post I have started to agree with today, the pigs demise worries me for this game because let's face it we should win it. Colleagues of other teams have described a Blades win 'easy, 2 or 3-0.'

What we have to remember is that they are the pre season, maybe still, favourites for automatic promotion. They are still in the FA Cup so could still win that. They have hundreds of thousands of global supporters, an owner who's dad is a billionaire, players all on £30K a week. We are still relegation contenders, currently in a bubble, no players earning over £30K a week, with a gaffer who is not proven in this division. We're up against it on Friday no doubt about that !
still favourites for promotion?? that’s a leap

I think it is highly unlikely we would be offered that sort of money for Fleck. Just speaking hypothetically

Well from the snippets of pork talk I've been seeing on the forum since old lucky took over I wouldn't rule it out and I don't think they have either. F.A Cup still in their grasp. Just saying

I totally get the nervousness the OP speaks of.

Derbies often don't go the way they're supposed to,

we're big favourites despite actually only winning 1 in 8,

since Coutts injury we've played poorly 3-4 times out of the 8 or 9 matches we've had,

they've got a brand new Manager which often brings about an immediate effect,

I suspect they're better than Bolton or Birmingham neither of whom we beat recently.

There are plenty of reasons to be nervy. Nonetheless, I do think we are actually just better than them, and expect us to win, but plenty of reasons to be nervy.

A bit better? We are miles ahead of them in terms of quality! We are everything they could have been had they spent wisely on good young hungry players.Instead they buy has beens and think they have the right to go up!

We have a good squad who know their jobs; who are well rested, under excellent management and playing at home in front of a loud, passionate crowd, having won the away fixture convincingly. Unless we give our worst performance of the season and the pigs play out of their skins with all the luck going, then we should win. Be optimistic. There`s every reason to be.

Likely that somebody's probably off after the pig game, we can't keep a massive squad forever, only question is who and if any of our better players are left out of the pig game it will be a big clue. My suspicion is someone big might be on their way out for significant bucks, don't mind though, needed livening up a bit with more offensive threat in midfield and up top.

Don't care who's off as long as its not Wilder.

A bit better? up!

When I said 'just better', I meant we are just (could have said simply) better than them, I didn't mean we are only just better than them.

But its not true they have to play out of their skins and we have to play worse than ever to lose. Neither of those would describe Bolton or Bham games, and we don't score nearly as many goals as we should for the amount of play we have.

Hoping the extra height in the new guys will help with that from set pieces!

I normally get really nervous on the run up to derbies, but not this time. Obviously i'd take 1-0 now, but i have a good feeling about this one. The pigs are in complete disarray currently and no matter what we think, Wilder will have the team 100% ready and focussed on the task at hand. Relax folks, we'll be fine :)

We have the better team, period.
Just play the way that we can and we will be comfortable winners !
We are over due to give out a hiding to some team it might as well be them.

There's actually no comforting someone with your mentality mate - and you'll know that yourself anyhow. Because if we'd have been going into this game without any new signings and Wednesday had still got Carlos in charge, you'd have found something else to worry or moan about. ("We're weak in midfield - Wednesday are going to win sooner or later - Carlos will turn it round").

In fact, you actually sum up what it is to be a Sheffielder for many. Always look on the dark side of life. And "Arr much is it?".

If you live your life based on the ethos of "summat bad might 'appen" then it surely will. It's called a self-fulfilling prophecy. Any you're the prophet that's making it happen.
