We have a problem with Cooper

I've never seen a drop off like it. Plymouth fans didn't have a bad word to say about him, so he's clearly a player (as shown last season too). I do still believe he's playing through an injury, but if not then we may have to look at Tickle from Wigan in the summer.

He's not been where he was last season that's for sure, doesn't help that Adam Davies is a completely useless deputy and it appears that Faxon isn't up to the job either.

I wouldn't point the finger at him for either of the goals, the first was a good finish from Conway who put the ball the only place he could to get it in the goal and the other, Bindon was slower to react than McGree was to the rebound.

Kicking-wise, he's been suspect, whether its an old knee issue resurfacing which is behind that and perhaps being slow to get to low shots, only person who really knows that is Cooper himself.

hes obviously carrying an injury its the clubs fault for not loaning another keeper last month weve covered arblasters injury but risking everything with cooper phillips could turn out to be a great signing but cant help thinking the reported 28k salary were paying could have got us a good back up keeper and another striker

Massive oversight not to sign a starting keeper and a striker on loan in Jan. If Cooper's injured, we should have got a replacement in on loan and got Cooper the treatment he needs ASAP, so he's able to recover and ready to hit the ground running next season.
Also ridiculous that we're relying on old man Bamford up front, who has had spells out with injuries throughout his career. I can forgive the Phillips signing because hopefully it will give Blaster the extra recovery time he clearly needs and can be eased in rather than starting every game. But, it's hard to justify if it's stopped us strengthening other positions because of the high wages.

It would have been good to have a look at Faxon in that FA cup game.

I still think Cooper is struggling with an injury. On more than one occasion last night he cleared the ball with his left foot and struggled to reach the halfway line. I found this a bit strange as he is right footed and was not under too much pressure to stop him switching to his favoured foot.

Imo he's a decent keeper but he's not as good as what he's been hyped up as. Maybe we should be looking at another keeper in the summer to at least challenge Cooper.

Look fine with catches or high reflex saves, can't seem to get low quickly anymore (or kick properly). Bit weird. Not sure if there's an injury that would cause that.
There is, the same one I developed.

Sciatica, definitely affected my kicking and I’ve had to give up even coaching as I can kick fuck all now. Can’t coach when you can’t do it yourself.

It might be something else but it’s got all the hallmarks

I don't think he was to blame for our defeat tonight.

Boro gave a really good team performance both going forward and covering back.

But, with a little bit of luck.....
We had a transfer window to get a back up, we didn’t. Our professional coaches think Davies is good enough.

I’m not a professional obviously, he’s nowhere near good enough

Has been out worst player this season, but it's tough for him because he can't hide as a keeper and won't be dropped.
Would you drop him for Davies? I wouldn’t as relatively bad as Cooper has been. The guy is clearly injured, negligent to not get a proper back up and keep putting him through it.

It speaks volumes when an unfit Cooper is still better than the other options we have

Nah I'd not drop him either, assume he's not playing through an injury but what do I know. We've had a window now to bring in cover so surely would have if so, particularly given his form.

Still back him to get back to being at least a middling Championship goalkeeper.

I thought the same but then I have flashbacks to George Long getting thrown in before he was ready.

We needed an experienced head on the bench. Someone like Forster (not necessarily him) would have been ideal.

Played well today - even his distribution was better!
A lot of the time his distribution is poor is because he’s put under pressure unnecessarily by our defenders not really knowing what to do. We can play some good stuff going forward but are regularly unable to build out from the back. Cooper should still be better but he’s not always helped.

There,s no competition for his shirt though..needs a better back up who can push and continually improve him.

Although it's been mentioned elsewhere the fact that Cooper is injured seems to have ignored by many.
We have a very good keeper in Coops, the fact that the manager selects him when injured says volumes about our recruitment. Cut the lad some slack and look at the circumstances surrounding his form, if we've been tardy when choosing not to bring in a more experienced keeper that's on the club.

I love him, on his day I think he's one of the best we've ever had, but what can his injury even be?
What injury affects catching, kicking, shot stopping and decision making?
Again, I'm not slating him, I think he's Premier League level at times, but if he is playing through an injury what can it actually be? Wouldn't the fitness team even allow it?

Depends on type of injury and if its just a niggling one thats fine to play with injections and strapping etc. But ultimately its managers & players decision not fitness team.

Suarez can hardly walk anymore and everytime he plays he needs injections and pill medication, otherwise he can not play due to his knee....
