i would put matsos and soumare together for ipswich and play godfrey tanganga and mee (if hes signed) as a back 3 with those 5 in doubt we will just get walked through like we have in 5 games this season peck needs benching just not good enough and lucky not to get a red yesterday awful challenge
Agree - 3-5-2 definitely our best bet with players currently signed. Burrows and Seriki are ideal wing backs.

Strange we've only opted for a 3-year-deal on such a young player that we're paying a significant fee for.
Next Summer will be the optimum time to sell him, as with Tanganga...
I'd like to think their contracts contain option for a further year?

But Tanganga cost millions. Gone are the days of us just being able to overpay for player after player. Matos has played at this level and done ok. He's 20, only going to improve. I think signings like this and the Swedish lad are different to say Ukaki and Jeff. Players who can be in the squad now but hopefully improve.

I don't look at price tags when i judge a player, I look at the player and see how he will do for now.... in a promotion chasing side. Since thats what the owners told us the goal was.

When we're in panic mode, bottom of the league, is a young kid with average ability the player COH are putting their hopes and dreams on?

You talk about the Swedish lad and this one being different, but that conveniently ignores the likes of Barry and Bindon...

As I said, underwhelmed.

I think you're writing off Barry and Bindon way too soon. Boondon has had to play in a defence with no protection. Has he been worse than say Burrows? Barry looks naïve but he's got no movement in front of him and it must be hard to come into a situation like this.

True Barry has no support when he looks up

When are Chelsea or even Oxford league 1
Played 1 game at Chelsea. Then farmed to League one Huddersfield followed by bottom end Oxford. Then flogged to us, bottom of Championship and in need of Quality along with Experience.

The views from suggest he's League one quality thats played at the bottom end of the Championship for a half season, which would put him, in my view as a League 1 player to then convince me otherwise.

Of course, its been 4 games, i don't have much to go on other than those games and the views from other fans, i've stated the criteria used.

They're written off right now for the following reasons:

Barry - headless speed merchant that plays for himself rather than the benefit of the team. Takes decisions which waste the ball.

Bindon - Slow, looks weak for his size and concerning so far.

The likes of Burrows came from League one and clearly showed he was a level above, he's got credit in the bank

Its about stepping up and not all players do. The Owners and manager take lots of blame but so do players. But there were also players that player 20-30-40-50 games last season that got written off by some fans here because of a misplaced pass in a play off final, having much more credit in the bank.

So we're judging players on the moments that they play and the signings on the experience that they bring... considering the owners targets....

Kids 20 he's a under 20 england international ,done his apprenticeship in league one then the champ ,that's what progression is all about with young players . I'll wait and see what he's like when I've seen him play .

He also relies on someone running down the channel so he can but in, which has often not been there either.
I’ve been wondering where Burrows has been, because he isn’t track back and he isn’t overlapping?

Where does he go?

Waiting to see someone play before forming and opinion on their ability. It's a novel idea but will never catch on here :)

I do enjoy seeing footballers ssshhhing fans, even when said fans have shown no interest to that player's actions up to that point of the match
I'm definitely an 'ear cup' kinda guy, single or double. Cupping one's ear after scoring in front of a stand of rowdy opposition fans is the ultimate act of shit-houserie and so much more potent than shushing.

Yeah i get that, but go back to what i said earlier in post #197

I've not made the assessment yet as i've not seen him play a game, i've merely said that i'm ready to write him off after one game because of the profile that he fits within and the thoughts of fans of other clubs.... i've laid it out pretty clearly to be fair.

I've said i could be wrong as well, covering bases, but it feels underwhelming at this moment in time... not sure why that can even be questioned at this stage ;)

My point being that everyone is playing badly so hard to judge new players.
Not having that as a generalist approach. I want these young lads to be smashing it up.

They're bringing the likes of Burrows and Cooper down, certainly Campbell is feeling the strain of it all and Hamer wants away as this new headless chicken has taken his position on the Left. He must be wondering what the leagues player of the season has to do to get into his best position when a young upstart just slides in....

transfer markt says its a 3 year contract

He doesn’t tug his sleeve. Not appeh
He got the warning
The downside is the number of cards he is picking up from not too many games but that said, he isn't much different on that point of view to Souza. He has potential and clearly he wasn't going to make it in Chelsea's first squad so made a sensible choice when young enough to develop. These types can end up on endless loans until they are 25 and not really settle and then just fall off. As for the so called other teams negative views, it's likely he is doing the work that goes unnoticed. It sounds like he would be ideal sat in front of either a back 3 or 4 making the tackle or dropping deeper when needed to pick up the CB that has moved forwards, concentrate on short passes and nothing complicated or risky and I think he has potential to be a fantastic signing.

I think expectations for Matos need to be realistic he’s a great run all day athlete in the middle and despite his shorter height he’s very strong and aggressive and he’s a willing tackler. If we expect him to come in and solve our midfield problems we’ll be disappointed and that’s unfair. If we expect him to come in and play as a solo holding midfielder he’ll struggle and it would be unfair given his poor creative output. However if he’s been signed to play a very specific role that being the 2nd holding midfielder next to a player who progresses the ball up the pitch either through passing or carries then he might succeed. His strengths and weaknesses seem tailor made for that role cover the spaces in the middle work really hard recover the ball and then pass it off to more creative/progressive players.

There’s nothing of any substance to suggest you’ll be right.
