Apparently we're playing Brighton away, but no date has been confirmed yet.

I hope that's a weekend

Would make sense with Russell Slade being their manager.

I've had a text from a mate today that says:

14 July - Sheffield FC
15 July - Hallam FC
18 July - Ferencvaros
22 July - Hull City (U18)
22 July - Chesterfield (1st)
25 July - Bury
28 July - Lincoln
1 August - Brighton
2 August - Open Day
4 August - Stocksbridge
8 August - Bradford (& first game of season)

What it fails to mention is home/away, which team (first, reserves, juniors etc), and what kick off time... but at least it's coming together now!

I don't think that's a bad line-up of pre-season fixtures at all.

Looks like Brighton could be off...

Albion hopes of a friendly against Sheffield United have been dashed due to the Saturday clashing with Pride a week before the season kicks off, and are now looking to organize a match against a Championship or Premiership team a week before kick off possibly on the Sunday the day after Pride.

Other friendlys though they have organized a friendly against Crawley Town, and are looking at arranging other fixtures possibly the usual non league friendlys against Worthing, and Bognor Regis.

Russell Slade told the Argus "I'd say we're eager for a game on August 1st home or away".

Meanwhile ex Albion keeper John Sullivan has joined Millwall and Slade has refused to comment on players being linked with the club

Excuse my ignorance but what is the Pride????

http://www.brightonpride.org/

Pride in Brighton & Hove promotes equality and diversity, and advances education to eliminate discrimination against the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) community. It raises awareness of these issues by facilitating and promoting a series of events including Winter Pride and the annual free summer festival. It also fulfils its objectives by making grants and/or donations to other charitable and voluntary organisations. Our key objective is to develop an environment that promotes LGBT equality through creating and supporting events that celebrate LGBT lives.

We have Gay Pride days here, so I guess I should have asked why that would have any bearing on a friendly football game.

Mentioning no names, but some of the players might get distracted :D

I'd guess it'd be something to do with the traffic and hotels all being booked up.

I'd guess it'd be something to do with the traffic and hotels all being booked up.

And all stewards/police being taken up for the event too.

Our pre-season fixtures are getting a bit stuck in a rut... so much for new and exciting places :)

I've just had a nice sounding young lady from United on the phone, asking me if I'd be interested in going to Malta on the official trip. I said something along the lines of "Not even if they let me play will my wife let me go." They must be desperate if they're ringing people up.

Slightly off topic... But I heard the other day that the pigs have given Ant Marketing the task of cold calling people to try and flog them season tickets.

I'm on that there "Caller Preference" list, which means that I very rarely get cold-called.

However, I do hope that I get a call asking me to buy a Wendy season ticket. Really I do.
I've not had a good phone wind-up for ages.:D:D:D

I have a feeling it'd go something like this:

shorehamview: Hello?

Ant Marketing Monkey: Hello Sir. I'm calling on behalf of Sheffield Wednesday. We were just wondering whether you'd like to join the thousands and thousands of people who have bought Wednesday season tickets for the upcoming season. We don't want people to be put off by the massive queues at the ticket office.

SV: You what?

AMM: Haven't you seen the Wednesday press releases... they're flying off the shelves? We've sold mumble thousand and we don't want you to miss out.

SV: How many?

AMM: Mumbles something about no definite numbers but they've definitely sold some.

SV: Do the words "fuck" and "off" mean anything to you son?

AMM: Now there's no need...

SV: And if Wednesday were as big a club as they think they are, there wouldn't be any need for this call.

/hangs up

I wouldn't be that harsh.

Ant Marketing Monkey: Hi there, I was wondering if you are a football fan?

SV: Yerrrrrs....

AMM: Would you be interested in a season ticket for Sheffield Wednesday? Sir? Sir? SIR? Are you okay sir? You sound like you're having a funny turn?

SV: No, I've stopped choking with laughter now. Unfortunately, I cannot buy a Wednesday season ticket for religious reasons.

AMM: Religious reasons? If you don't mind my asking, what would they be sir?

SV: God in His Infinite Wisdom made me a Blade. Now fuck off.

/hangs up.

Well the first official mention of us going to Hungary has been vaguely mentioned on the official site, in a story about Fradi's latest win :)

I've bugged the commercial department once again for details.

Well, there are now details, all of which we already knew... Pity the commercial dept couldn't just confirm them for me before

First Team Friendlies

Fri 10 July - Malta Select v. Sheffield United (in Malta)
Tue 14 July - Sheffield FC v. Sheffield United
Sat 18 July - Ferencvaros v. Sheffield United (at Fradi)
Wed 22 July - Chesterfield v. Sheffield United
Sat 25 July - Bury v. Sheffield United
Tue 28 July - Lincoln City v. Sheffield United

I'm in the process of making a pre-season guide for the new site... but for now, I'll lock this thread and set up match threads for each of the fixtures :)
