Ha ha I am beginning to really dislike Clough, he won't spend a penny to stubborn wants loans from the championship instead we'll end up with O'Grady back then there'll recall in March sometime leaving us high and dry.
so you mean there will be no plan B ?, like when you know who got banged up

I suppose the real deal boils down to whether Paul Cook has more idea of the worth of Doyle, and maybe Higdon, than Simon Clough has.

Who would you back?

Sheff Telegraph:

"Chesterfield want £2million for Sheffield United target Eoin Doyle amid a transfer stampede for the country’s top goal scorer.

At least six Championship clubs are trailing the 21-goal marksman with Cardiff City – managed by former Blades coach Russell Slade – leading the chase heading into the January transfer window which opens today.

United are merely monitoring developments for the time being, although it is understood they moved early in making contact with Chesterfield earlier this month.

Some sources claim the Blades made an offer, thought to be around £650,000, although it is not known whether this was an official bid or merely for discussion.

But Chesterfield immediately rebuffed the approach and, with Doyle maintaining his form in the interim, the valuation is soaring.

It’s understood that, amid widespread Championship interest, Rotherham United’s Steve Evans is among managers tracking developments.

But some heavweights of the second tier appear to be in pole position and Cardiff’s Slade is a huge admirer.

Doyle made a big impression on Slade with a goal against his former team Leyton Orient on the opening day of the season as Chesterfield won 2-1 in London.

Rivalling Cardiff are promotion-seeking Derby County, who are in third place following their win over Leeds on Tuesday.

Millwall and Huddersfield are also known to be keen, while Sheffield Wednesday’s Stuart Gray is keeping tabs despite admitting that he is likely to be confined to loan signings.

There was an assumption, proving false, that Chesterfield valued Doyle at £1m. In fact, the price tag is twice that figure after being reinforced by sheer weight of interest. And goals.

The 26-year-old former Hibernian striker, who regularly hit the target in SPL, is averaging nearly a goal a game with 21 in 25 appearances as Chesterfield, promoted only last season, mount a surprise challenge for the play-offs.

Paul Cook’s side are only a point outside the top six after an unbeaten Christmas in which Doyle hit a brace in the 3-2 win over fancied Peterborough.

Ironically, it is former Peterborough hotshot Britt Assombalonga who has steeled the Spireites’ resolve not to be hounded into compromising on their valuation.

Assombalonga’s strike ratio for Posh was below Doyle’s but he still commanded a £5.5m fee from Nottingham Forest last summer.

Forest, incidentally, are also watching Doyle, but a transfer embargo looks like blighting their hopes."

Paul Cook.

I have a gut feeling Higdon will go to Chesterfield in a swap deal , but not for Doyle .

Higdon will get his fitness and form back , start knocking in the goals , as they will play to his full potential and strengths.

Change of coaching staff and scouting required , before any disastrous signings.

Funny how clubs like chessy and Peterborough can command proper fees for their players that seem to belong in the modern cash rich world of football , but yet we still seem to use derek dooleys note pad when valuating sales and buys

Do you not think we got a fair price out of the Harry to Hull deal Judge?

Do we really though?

No probably not , it was just a joke

A side-splitter.

Who are the players for whom Chesterfield have commanded 'proper fees'? Remember that hack reporters saying "they want a trillion pounds..." is worthless.

By the way, we got a good fee for Maguire. Let's see where he ends up in his career, shall we?....

That good fee certainly warms the cockles of my heart as yet another soft set piece goal goes in.

Lost our first target the day before the window opens?
That's got to be some sort of record, even for us

Do not worry !!! I'm absolutely sure that the Board will have many more "missed targets" to report to us before January is over. It's what they train for

Media in Scotland saying that Celtic today lodged a £1m cash bid with add odds to buy this lad and that they have stiff competition from Cardiff who are also in talks with the club. If this is right then this thread might as well be closed now because Dave Allen is a money fan and won't be looking to do us any favours unless we offered over the odds.

I think it's fair to say, Clough wont offer over the odds for anyone

So in that case, Steve Davies at Blackpool anyone? :(

might as well discount this one now as apparently the Star reporting the Blades made an offer around £650,000 which was rejected - no way is that going to increase to anything like the £2m valuation.

Think we are more likely to sign Jimmy Ryan who is a box to box midfielder with a good shot and highly rated by CFC fans. Chesterfield's line up at MK Dons could give us a hint on who will be leaving CFC in the JTW

Is Doyle worth this much? Not seen him play
Only seen him a couple of times but his record apart from this season, with the clubs he's been at is nothing to shout about.A flash in the pan i reckon, and like others have said,if we've got 2 mill:rolleyes: then i wouldn't spend it on Eoin Doyle. There has to be better and proven players with a proven track record at this level that we could get for somewhere near to the amount quoted.

A workmate who is a CFC fan is surprised at how many goals Doyle has scored. Not really one of CFC's best players, just that he is on a "purple" patch. Remember David Johnson scoring a lot of goals for Forest in 2002-03 but he didnt do much after that season. We must not read too much of the goalscorers charts. My CFC workmate thinks Doyle wont be missed when he leaves and with the attention he is getting , he is happy for CFC to take the money quoted on the papers. Remember we sold Ian Benjamin, Oliver Tebily and Wayne Quinn for fees that were much higher than they were really worth
